Any Sasha updates?

Why USFSA? I'd say he has little confidence in Sasha and her team.

This is not coming from a direct source at NBC...I have a friend who works for a sports network (not for Figure Skating) and even she has said it's very important to NBC to have a leading lady heading to the Olys. NBC has been promoting B/A and Evan thanks to their success this last quad (and the skier who's name escapes me), but would love for a recognizable Lady skater with a human relation story (Sasha and her Comeback trail full of fluff about injuries and set backs and equipment issues and coaching changes to return "home" to Nicks, etc, fits the bill nicely). I'm not saying the fix is in, who knows, but I don't think the fact M/B(I/B) didn't get held up(the nod for the team over E/L) has any indication that TPTB are going to treat Sasha like some no-namer unless she seriously splats all over the place. She will get star treatment, and if she is even semi-clean, watch for straight 9's...

But as I said before...I don't care what Sasha's PCS marks are or if she's overlooked on any edge calls as long as she should be ahead of whoever she beats.

I think once the men's results are in we will have more insight. If one of Evan, Johnny, or Jeremy are left off the team, I'd say the ladies' spots are wide open.

Win, lose or draw, this season has been Sasha's greatest performance. She has held the audience enthralled without ever setting foot on the ice.

As Tallulah Bankhead once said to a young upstart ingenue who thought the great one was over the hill, "I can upstage you, dahling, without even being on stage.".

Then she proceeded to do it. As she exited just before the young actress's big scene, she placed a wine glass on a table, precariously ballanced on the edge. Will it fall or won't it? All during the scene the audiences' attention was fixed on Tallulah's glass.

After watching what has happened at Nationals thus far, it can go either way for Sasha Cohen, either a.) they will receive her with open arms or b.) tear her a new one.

Either way, I respect Miss Cohen so much for living up to the motto it's better to have tried & failed, then never to have tried at all.

Go out there, Sasha, and skate your heart out! That's all that matters. You are a winner in my book, win or lose, you're a winner in my book!!!!!!!!

My biggest concern re. Cohen's return was her getting held up even after a dismal performance. But I'm surprised and impressed with the way the event is being judged so far. One of the faves didn't skate well enough to be in the top 2 and it wasn't given to them. Likewise, they missed the Oly team. This gives me hope that no one will be held up and thus we can now focus attention on the skating. :yes:

Yes. It is so refreshing not to have an event like Canada and Russia have to suffer through. Japan handled it pretty well, and I am happy to say that the U.S. did not live up to my low expectations.

I will take John Nicks' word for it that Sasha has been training and working very hard despite some injury problems.

Many of them are making comebacks from a year or years off the ice: Plushenko, Lambiel, S/Z, D/S. Other skaters make a combeack after a serious injury, an awful season, or a disappointing performance. There are all sorts of comebacks.

I said in 2006 and earlier Joannie wasn't as good as Sasha. I only said it after you made so many negative posts about Sasha.

If they ever compete again we will see what happens. If they don't then it seems like a silly argument.

I like both skaters and hope Joannie can skate her best in Vancouver. It would be a special moment for Joannie and her fans if she can do that.

It will also be a nice moment for Sasha's fans if she can skate well at Natls.

She could beat their favorite, lol. But this is the very essence of S P O R T! Whomever skates their best wins! Therefore, I want ALL the athletes to skate their very best & let the chips fall where they may. So I say:

I don't fear that she will beat my favourite. I am just tired of the "will she or won't she". There has been absolutely no video footage of her skating so I don't blame people for being a skeptical. I guess we will all see what happens next weekend

After finding out how M/B kind of fell apart this weekend and missed the Podium let alone didn't win- and also how world champ Lysacek got schooled by Abbot- I'm not taking anything as a given any more. She will have to come prepared and ready to fight. I initially thought that "She shows up, she's on the team" but no, not any more. If we have the level of competition we did in 2008 (everyone basically came in at full speed there) then I'd say 3 triples from her (in the FS) won't do it. She is a good SP skater- the other ladies must be perfect to keep up with her. Assuming they can do that, it comes down to the freeskate. Especially if she is the last skater... if Flatt et al. really bring the house down with a solid FS she can really put the pressure on Cohen. Coming back from a 4-year layoff, she could crumble.

I think things just got a little bit more interesting. Of course, it all depends on if the judges continue their streak.
