Any Sasha updates?

Speaking with international considerations in mind Mr Nicks has another trick up his sleeve.

He has applied to Canada for dual citizenship for Sasha.

He has informed all of the USA judges and asked them to give Sasha the same inflated scores Canadian skaters receive. :p

He figures the extra 20% should be enough to clinch the Gold for Sasha no matter how she skates. ;)

That Mr Nicks is such a sly devil - is it any wonder Sasha always returns to him

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Ok. You win. You've out snarked the snarkiest of all time. I bow to your example.

Interesting. What does a skater who can not do a proper lutz and leaves the attempt out? Would that save on points, if he found other ways to make up for it?

1) Asada Strategy: Dump the lutz and do triple axels instead.
2) Lepisto Strategy: Dazzle them with Beauty.

After looking it up some more I think it is around a -2. So not quite as severe as a -3. I still maintain that it is better for a skater to learn to do a lutz rather than a flutz so there is a chance of postitive GOEs.

Of course its better to have proper technique than to get away with a flutz... But if a skater falls they shouldn't receive more credit than a skater who has a flutz. The same is true for skaters who simply tack on 2axels on everything because they can't do a full set of triples. Or win with 3 triples. It drives me insane! Where is the integrity in those programs?!?

Another peeve, this line: "She had a phenominal program, just the fall on the fill in the blank jump here." I'm ol' school - I always appreciated the classic: "Oh no! A fall on that jump, just discounted any chance of the gold."

I should be a judge. "It would be legendary!"

Laura's strategy works on me

You and my 12 year old son... granted, Emily Hughes wouldn't even have to skate if left up to him... Poor Sasha wouldn't be allowed on the ice. Neither would Michelle. They just don't do it for him...:laugh::laugh:

Yes, if a skater falls they won't receive more credit than a skater who does a flutz. I guess I appreciate the COP more than I did 6.0. It used to drive me crazy when everyone was pointing out Tara's flutz and the judges never applied a penalty to her. Again with Sarah Hughes, it was very obvious that she cheated her jumps (and flutzed)- this was again pointed out time and time again and she did not receive deductions. Sasha did not receive penalities for her flutz either in 6.0.

I think ladies skating was starting to go down a dangerous path with all of the improper technique. I like that there are penalities for poor technique.

Ah, different opinions - isn't that what makes the skating world go round  Anyways, I don't want to derail the thread anymore so I will stop talking.

I think the split jump should be okay. I know Joannie did one in her 2006 short program under the COP. It is marvelous so I hope it stays in :)

Yes, a Russian Split is allowed in the SP. It's considered a transition or a move in the field and helps boost GOE's and the PCS mark.

Lynn Rutherford tweeted: Shades of old Sasha -- everyone in media area "ah huhed" as Cohen cut Gao off during the latter's free skate run-through.

Thanks guys! So Scott made me worry all these years for nothing-even in 2010!

I wish I had kept up with the sport after 2006-now I'm playing catch up. Joannie has grown by leaps and bounds. I really think she'll be a force to reckon with in Vancouver-deservedly so not because of any 'home ice' advantage.

I watched that whole practice and I saw no intentional 'cutting off' by Sasha towards Gao or anyone else. In fact I saw one skater nearly go into her as she had her back turned setting up for a jump. It's not a huge rink-all the skaters I am sure are doing their best NOT to have any unforeseen crashes into each other. What purpose would that serve except cause possible injury?

Considering the fact that all eyes were on her I think Sasha looked very focused, concentrating within herself and determined with the task ahead of her.

RD wishes he were my son. Shoot, I wish I were my son.. we don't call him the Monster Child for nothing...

Was it something I said?

Very cool that you're there! And you know - I've seen Sasha cut off maybe two skaters over the last decade...once when she was like 15 and then once with DivaKawa. I've also seen MK do it along with most skaters. Its laughable to me that Sasha has the reputation of being an ice bully. Practices are like youtube, you see what you want to see...

Have fun and know that KW is extremely jealous!

No idea. I just posted what I read. I think most of the time Sasha has what we horseback riders call "cold eyes": she focuses on what she is doing and forgets she's not the only one out there. I don't think it's an intentional cut off/interrupt another skater's session but a bit self absorb-ness. Considering there has been A LOT of accusations regarding Sasha cutting others off, my gut says that is the deal, she may not have any evil intentions, she's just self absorbed in what she has to get done.

Orser should know better and Christina should have been warned to keep out of the way of a notorius rink bully like Sasha

OK...as long as it wasn't a cheap shot about Emily's so-called "heavy" physique. i just don't get or appreciate why fans have to insult and bring down other skaters to make their faves look better. Just in these past few pages, you have hinted on not so flattering comments about Joannie and now Emily to defend your fave.

If you read my post I did not say Sasha dogged Christina. I shared what I read on someone else's twitter, much like how poster's have posted tidbits twittered by others. If you also noticed, I wrote that I don't think Sasha necessarily stalks and interrupts other skaters, I personally wonder if she is too into her own agenda to notice what others are doing, hence the "cold eyes" reference. It does make me wonder when other fans, media people and competitors have accused Sasha of playing stalking game on the ice, more so than other top names, but who knows.

Also, I do not believe in putting other skaters down to build up Michelle. For example, if I were to defend a costume choice of Michelle's, I rather say,"I prefer classical, subtle elegant styles." instead of "I prefer the classic, subtle elegant style Michelle chose over the overly bearing, heavy, robotic color scheme of skater A."

edited...huh...your last post disappeared, janet fan! Wish I quoted without it, my above post makes little sense!

Here is a picture from my personal photos that shows her concentrating. This is when Tatianna was her coach. She was just a few feet away from me so I got this great pic. Some of the fans started to bombard her and she said nicely, ....I am still working...my coach told me to come here. The fans said ok...but we all sat there looking at her.

Photo removed.

BTW, does anyone else think she looks taller????
