Any Wine Connoisseurs Here

British Columbia wine has really come into its own. It comes from the Okanagen Valley in the interior of BC and is doing quite well all over the world. I purchased some blush wine tonight. I usually prefer red; sometimes I like white. What is your favorite?

Hi Ladskater!

I work in the liquor industry, and until a few years ago, knew nothing about wine. I have gained tonnes of knowledge as of late, and have come to appreciate wine this past while.

It used to be that Canada really didn't have much of a reputation in the wine industry. It was almost as though it were our little secret. In the past few years, however, Canada has develped quite a reputation for some fantastic whites. Henry of Pellham makes a fantastic Baco Noir, and it is terrific served with wild meat. Another delicious white is Quail's Gate Chenin Blanc.

Myself, I am a huge fan of the german whites, as I prefer a little sweeter wines. A fantastic line to try is the Dr. Zen Zen line of whites.

For those who are red fans, Australia has some absolutely fantastic wines. My personal favourites are McGuigan's Shiraz, Wolff Blass Cabernet Sauvignon, and Jacobs' Creek Shiraz Cabernet. Additionally, for the red wine fan, the La Playa line out of Chile are equally fantastic, and for a real treat (30.00 per bottle) Casa La Postelle Merlot is to die for.

You hit it dead on the head about the Aussie wines. I can't really drink anymore due to some health issues (alcohol absolutely tears my insides up now ), but I found that as far as moderately priced wines go, they surpass a lot of the NAPA valley wines my family used to drink.

When we lived in Seattle, I discovered some of the wines from the Columbia River Valley, not too far from BC, and found several of them to be enjoyable. I never tried any of the Canadian wines, so since I can't now, I'd love to hear how they compare to the ones from Washington State.

Generally, I prefer red wines - Cabernet Sauvignon being my favorite. I also enjoy Zinfandel - not the white stuff. For white wines, I usually drink Chardonnay. Overall, I don't like the sweet syrupy wines like White Zinfandel and Pllum wine.

Next Friday, my friend's and I are attending a barrel tasting party at the Bacchus School of Winemaking. Beginning in the fall, groups or individuals can rent a barrel and learn to make wine. Depending on the experience, we may try to get a larger group together to learn the winemaking process.

<span style="color:red;font-family:comic sans ms;font-size:small;">A few weeks ago I attended a wine tasting event sponsored by an intl. company that only sells wine privately--i.e. not in stores. At one point, the presenter told us about a $1000 bottle of wine, stating that it isn't the taste of the wine that makes it worth the price, but the fact that there were so few bottles of it made for sale. You'd be paying for the privilege of saying that you drank wine that was worth $1000 a bottle! My response was (which I kept to myself), hey, buy a bottle of Robert Mondavi and give that $1000 to charity!</span>

I'm with you on the German white wines. I can't drink now because of medications but my favorite used to be a Mosel Reisling called Lilac Seal, I don't even know if it is still being made.

I used to really love the Australian wines. I also like Greek wine and California wines. I have to watch my wine intake now though because supposedly, I am alergic. Oh well, the odd glass does not hurt me! Thanks for the response.
