Article on 20 Year Anniversary of Battle of the Brians

Thank you for the link! This is the competition that got me totally hooked on figure skating (together with Midori Ito's free skate in Calgary ). I have the greatest respect for both Brians.

There is also an interview with Brian Boitano in USA Today, along with the article..

A snippet:

At one show last month in Washington, D.C., the microphone failed for Seal during one of your numbers. A fan yelled out, 'What would Brian do?' What was your reaction?

Boitano: I laughed. I wanted to say, 'No, it's 'What would Brian Boitano do?' I thought it would go away after about five years. But everybody knows the South Park song. Recently, I was researching something on YouTube and I read a caption that said, 'Wow, Brian Boitano's an ice skater? I only know him from South Park.' I'm not really sure what to make of that, but I really love politically incorrect humor.

Have you seen South Park before?

Boitano: Yes. And Linda wrote to the show and had them send me an 8-by-10 photo with an animated picture of me one year for a gift.

Here's a small picture of the animated Brian, in case you're not a South Park fan:

There is a clip of the South Park Brian Boitano on youtube, too.

I liked Brian as a commentator--but at 44, I guess he's still too busy with shows and skating to slow down enough to be the next Dick Button.

I love that story! That is too funny! I have matching WWBBD t-shirts for my son and I and refrigerator magnets.

I barely remember this (I do however remember the Battle of the Carmens like it was yesterday) but I love reading about it & watching clips from it. What an exciting year for skating!
