If they felt that passionately about keeping the silvers rather than the gold, they could have asked just to keep the silver medal result, or after the ceremony to replace the golds with silvers, and be listed as the gold medalist, or any of those things if "really felt that way" couldnt they have? They shouldnt be able to keep both medals. The Pairs event is one event, not two, there is one set of medals, not two.

Yes, but why would they go to a ceremony were they wouldn't get a new set of medals? They were not going to be given the silvers. The second ceremony was just for B&S and S&P, to give the media a nice "everything is fine now" picture. The truth is that no one would have paid attention to the Bronze Medalists. Probably the only thing they would have gotten out of being there would have been a reporter asking them if they should get the silver instead of the bronze.

I don't think its just a boo hoo for Sale & Pelletier though, all four skaters including Ber&Sik had their Olympic moment tainted bu the cheating judges, the four of them are the victims and the judges are the culprits.

The real pity is that the "Once in a Lifetime Olympic Experience (TM)" was badly tarnished for four fine athletes, and that's something they'll never get back, regardless of medal color.

I totally agree. The entire event was blown out of porportion and the media has allot to do with it. The media are the one's that get everyone hyped up and talking about it forever and ever. Every time I think I just can't posssibly love Shen/Zhao more....I remember them not being at the second medal ceremony and didn't even think twice about it...I didn't read the article, but I'll just say it sounds wierd to me to want a silver medal when you have the gold (unless ofcourse it IS worth money and you want to sell it...LOL).

As I understand it, the silvers are in the IOC's vault -- so $peedy can't profit from the scandal. However, I agree that, if Jamie and David really wanted the silver, they could have handled things differently. (Remember, after Nagano, "Tara had a spark I didn't have ... "?) (BTW -- Anton was quoted as saying that, if he and Elena had clearly outskated S & P, but the gold went to the Canadians, no one would have said or done anything about it)

Where in that article does Jamie actually say she wants (present tense) the silver medals back? Sure, she's relating a story about once upon a time - even laughing about her 'rejection' letter, but by no means is she starting a 'get back my silver' campaign here. She's telling a story about a sentimental attachment, nothing more. It's all in your perspective, I guess... but I honestly don't know why so many people are harbouring such resentment.

Granted, she could have been more 'reserved' and refused to answer the reporter's questions about SLC - but she chose to be candid and honest. Obviously some people choose to fault her for saying what she did, but really, it's not as dramatic as it's being made out to be!

I dont live in the US so I was spared most of the hype (yay! hooray!) but IIRC the original result seemed rather like the Lillehammer ladies final, close and controversial and liable to be debated for years and years.
It was a combination of broadcasters looking for buzz and the psycho French judge (stop her before she speaks again!) that turned it into a circus (probably neither by itself would have done it but both together were the perfect storm).
Also, IIRC, the duplicate gold medal was not S/P's idea (and a far worse decision than the initial result).

And, looking at the article quoted, she certainly doesn't seem to be campaigning to get the silver medals back or anything, just saying that the silver won on the night of the competition made a bigger emotional impact on her than the medal handed out in the second pseudo-ceremony.

The judges and speedy and the olympic officials behaved disgracefully (majorly fueling my olympic-fobia) but skaters didn't. Both teams were emotional but I don't remember either disgracing themselves in the media the way the sporting bureaucrats did.

I'm pretty sure they had to give back the silvers to be replaced with new gold medals; So I think they are two sets of separate medals. David Pelletier did joke in at least one interview that they had to give the Silver medals back so the ISU could spray-paint them Gold. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?
