Ashley Wagner

I just watched ... Ashley's WTT Free Skate. That was really beautiful performance, now I am rewatching it again, it took me so long to finally be able to understand it & enjoy utterly. So I connected myself to Exogenesis.

I think her LP this season is fine. It was beautiful and I would prefer it over all ladies' LP this season. Too bad her tech need help.

Just posted our interview with Ashley from the SOI show in Hershey, PA. She was SUCH a sweetheart and she's even more engaging and lovely in person!

Fabulous interview!

My favorite quote:

The day after the show we asked G what he liked best about the show and he said “Ashley Wagner” when I (Kari) asked him why he said “because she appreciates her audience.” That’s a very wise and very accurate statement for someone that’s only two-and-a-half. Ashley does appreciate her audience and watching her and speaking to her were both wonderful experiences.

How do you feel about Ashley's GP assignments?

I first heard about them from Justin Laem's (link is below) quick reaction. He said that he hopes that either Ashley or Karen comes out ahead in both SC and SA match ups and also in Nationals, so there will be a clear U.S. favorite going into the Olympics. I hope so too, as there appeared to be ambivalence last year. I love them both, but hey, I'm all about Ashley. Karen has time.

I love the SC assignment; the Canadians appreciate Ashley. The US policy is for the current US champion to go to SA, so that goes to Karen. And I do think it speaks well that they invited Ashley as well; of course she's always very popular at SA. Do you think it's about creating a head to head competition between the two, or a vote of confidence, or something else?

I only wish she could go to France too, the French love her. Very intelligent people, the French.:) But, mustn't be greedy.

I think good for her to have both events in North America, she will get these points if she will skate cleanish, good for confidence. Plus the events are not that packed.

US Figure Skating now has skaters playlists on Spotify (you need an account to access) for Ashley, Mariah & Jason.

Ashley's travel playlist consists of a lot of current pop hits with some 80s thrown in including Ed Sheeran, Eurythmics and Elton John's "I'm Still Standing" (which could be her anthem, lol).

Ashley's Instagram stories of her beautiful cat (Dexter?) pawing at her face to wake her up are adorable. Especially for cat lovers! 😸

Ashley Wagner to pose for ESPN's Body Issue

Former University of Washington basketball star Isaiah Thomas and Olympic figure skater Ashley Wagner, who spent the early years of her life in the Puget Sound region, will be among athletes featured in this year's ESPN The Magazine Body Issue.
The Body Issue features athletes posing nude, but strategically covered.
Wagner, who has been one of America's top figure skaters for years, won a bronze medal at the 2014 Games.

The magazine hits newsstands July 7.

Leave it to Ashley to be the first female figure skater to be featured in the Body Issue! Good for her.

The photo itself seems both nonchalant, and her facial expression a little cheeky. Just like AW.:cool14:

ETA: Oops! She's not the first female, but the first ladies' figure skater to be featured in the Body Issue. Amanda Evora was in an earlier issue with her pairs partner Mark Ladwig.

Here's a lovely video from Jackie Wong featuring Ashley and Shae-Lynne's creative process and thoughts about Ashley's La La Land free program.

There's so much to love and celebrate about Ashley. She's an original. I can't wait to see the full program. I already love that she was so strongly pulled emotionally to this music, and decided that she simply had to follow her heart.

I absolutely love this. Seeing the builing process is so interesting, I love the little glimpses unveiled, and how she talks about her feelings, the perspective she puts on her skating... I feel like Ashley is going to pull awesome "Moulin Rouge-like" performances. You can feel she carries the program in her guts. She's just true to her. As she said, tons of people are going to skate to La La Land but if she gets the job done, the public will remember hers.
