Hello! I’m new to this website but I have a couple questions on figure skating! I have fallen in love with skating and I’m so excited to be able to do it! I am in a group basic 5/6 class and I still use rental skates (the rentals are figure skaters who have returned skates so they aren’t totally bad I don’t think but I would like a pair of my own). I plan to pass my basic 5/6 skill class in 4 weeks. After I pass 5/6 I want to start learning single jumps and get a private lesson for my freestyle moves. I have narrow feet so I can’t have something too wide for boots. I also know that I need to get fitted properly so I plan to do that but I want recommendations on here to see what I might be getting into with skates of my own. I also know that I would need to buy blades too! I am a size 7 with the rental skates and my toes lightly brush the end of the boot. I would like to know generally what boot and blade I would need for my beginning single jumps and spins in the Freestyle category. Thank you so much for reading this and I hope all the info helps!!!

Hi and welcome. There are some other things we need to know to suggest what you need. Height/weight, foot type. where are you in this world so we can also suggest a proper fitter?

Thanks!

I’m in the Philadelphia Area in the USA. I’m about 5 feet and 4 inches. I weight anywhere from 97-99 pounds. I am pretty sure my foot type would be an Egyptian!

Hi! Thanks for answering those questions! You could look at Riedell, Graf, and possibly Edea and some Risport.
Riedell: Stride
Graf: F4000
Edea: Overture
Risport: You could get away with anything from Electra (45) to RF3 Pro or Royal Pro. The last two you would have to decide which fit you like better RF3 (regular) or Royal Pro (fits more like an Edea).

Whichever boots you choose you would need a proper standard blade: Either MK Pro or JW Coronation Ace.

I will now PM you to send you fitter info.

Good luck! :)

Hi, I just got done with my fitting and I got told the the Jackson Mistique and Jackson Artiste would be best. I chose to go with the Artiste as the skate tech said it was a bit more stiff but I just noticed it wasn’t recommended to me on here. Will they last me in my single jumps? I am in Pre freestyle group lessons with 3 other people and my coach said in the next 7 weeks we would definitely get past Pre Freestyle. I plan to go with private lessons after this and once I get my skates I want to go 3-4 times a week with a lesson. I’m worried the Artiste won’t last me and I have heard Jackson is a very wide brand and I have narrow feet with a bit of a bunion. Thanks in advance for replies!

Idk if this also helps but before skating I did competitive soccer and so I have a lot of leg muscle and power in my legs and I have noticed that I naturally go faster with one push or that my waltz jump is more powerful and higher than other skaters in my class.

It's not clear to me whether (1) you actually tried on a pair of Artiste and (2) you've already purchased them. Please clarify.
