I just watched Blades of Glory.
I was horrified.
I laughed my head off.
It was so inaccurate.
It was still funny to me.

Have you watched Blades of Glory or other Figure Skating movies?
Were you able to enjoy it or did the inaccuracies and stupidity get in the way?

As bad as the costumes were...I've seen (One Banana) worse.

--they were on the podium in their sneakers.

A LOT of famous figure skaters made cameo appearances.

The Cutting Edge, haha! I'd say the inaccuracies (IE, hockey player turned Olympic pairs figure skater in a matter of months) made the movie more enjoyable and hilarious. "Toe pick!"

Regarding Blades of Glory and Sasha Cohen's tiny part in the film:

I think this interview made me like Sasha Cohen before I even learned that she was a bit of a diva when she was younger (which all teens are).

Also, is it bad that the costumes in Blades reminded me of Scott Hamilton in his Sarajevo LP?

The Cutting Edge (the original with DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly) to me is the best figure skating movie, and it wasn't super unrealistic. It was my favorite movie as a kid.

However the 3-4 sequels that were made to it were some of the worst movies, ever!

"The Cutting Edge" is the very best of them all. Every once in a while, I yell out "Toepick!!" for no good reason whatsoever. ;)

There's also "Ice Castles", which is melodramatic and silly but enjoyable.

I keep thinking "Love Story" is a figure skating movie although it's just set in a snowy Boston and has nothing to do with the sport. Maybe it's because of all the programs that keep using that music? (Jamie & David, Yuko & Sasha, Maria & Max?)

... and I LOVE Blades of Glory. Amy Poehler + Will Arnett stole the whole movie for me. Especially that ridiculous hip-hop dance number.

Go Figure was my movie of choice, despite all the inaccuracies. I understood her lucky scrunchie superstition on a personal level

I love The Cutting Edge and usually yell out toe pick whenever someone trips:)

I also love the TV movie made portraying Katia/Sergei.

I actually liked Blades of Glory, I thought it was hilarious. But possibly the reason why I liked it so much was that it wasn't trying to be serious, it was an obvious parody.

I absolutely HATE that stupid Ice Princess, Go Figure, Ice Castles etc. HATE HATE HATE them all. Because they pretend like they're serious and they're all SO BAD and SO INACCURATE.

It's Hollywood, what do you expect from them? :scowl:

Old fashioned, but still worth a watch

Henie's Thin Ice (1937)

and Belita's Silver Skates (1943)

The Cutting Edge was on ION yesterday. I hadn't seen it in at least 10-12 years. So much wooden acting. Ahh memories...

Does anyone remember the name of the awful skating movie that Tara Lipinski did? It was about hockey player dying and coming back as female figure skater...

What??? Tara acted in such movie???

Some of these movies I haven't heard of before and O.M.G!! Some of them are even stranger in their earnestness, than Blades of Glory.
So much fun to be had!
