Boyang Jin | Page 22 | Golden Skate

Boyang Jin

I've been rooting for Boyang all season. When he tried so hard to improve his programs and failed at the beginning, he brought it all together in the end.
Many were expecting a different podium, but Boyang has finally gotten his reward. So happy, this is the best podium ever.

I loved his performance today. His season didn't start out well, he had all sorts of issues, but was he ever on today. That lutz is worth the price of admission by itself. He played for the audience, he smiled, he performed... landed his jumps. He totally won his bronze medal today and that huge smile and reaction was worth it. Well done, boyang!!

I thought it was nice in the press conference how Yuzu gave all the credit in the world to Boyang for making the rest of the guys realize what was possible with the jumps and giving them the motivation to try harder things. It is so true with that lutz....

Finally, finally! Boyang, shooting webs into our hearts. Congrats on your second Worlds bronze!!! You completely and utterly deserved it for your efforts throughout the season to improve on your components and difficulty. And for being the most adorable person ever. :luv17:

Who would have thought Boyang would repeat as a Bronze medalist! After his not so great season when he didn't qualify for GPF, didn't skate well at 4CC and his robbery at AWG this is an amazing archivement! I even changed my avatár because of his SP and he was perfect in the FS! All jumps picture perfect and he was radiant today. His PCS were maybe a little high but that skate was magical! Very happy for Spiderboyang! :cheer:

German eurosport commentary after Boyangs FS:

good lord, has the whole world gone crazy? That's just incomprehensible (meaning: unbelievable). And Hendrik, I don't know if you agree or maybe you see things totally differently than me, but I thought this was a nice program.

yes, he really improved enormously. Enormously in this aspect! (they are talking about his components). He laid out the basis technically in a sensational way. And the music of Nina Rota from La Strada, of course he can't portrait Anthony Quinn being a muscleman, but! But he worked on his lacking program components and he improved extremely well.

- yes, I think so too. It's really noticeable compared to last season, when the long program was really lacking. Here, he showed something in Helsinki that was absolutely worth watching. Of course his absolute highlights remain to be his quads, the number of quads, the quad lutz that he does so easily like nobody else in the world. But the aspect in which he still has the most potential (to add to his score) are his program components. He has improved on those over this season. Last year in the Grand Prix his PCS were 19 points behind Fernandez's. Now, this won't happen anymore.

- Yes, great achievement of Boyang Jin, who now of course with this performance can hope for a medal, if one of the big guns doesn't bring their A game. He just said, I'm here my friends. I'm here ready, in case someone drops a medal.

- Yes, great, really, Boyang jin. That's a big story. Well he's actually not that far away from a medal. The gap (in scores from the sp) between him and Uno and Chan isn't that big. Jin's problem is that Hanyu's already passed him by, which means, I think beside Hanyu and Fernandez (they think Javi has a medal pretty sure) there's only one medal left.

- cracks the 200mark in the Fs. What did he get? 86 PCS. Well, we're satisfied. 303 points in total. Incredible. Into 2nd place.

Edit: I'd like to add: the German eurosport guys were big fans of Boyang in his debut season, but were more critical this season. They didn't like his Spiderman or La Strada program that much in the beginning of the season, but sure liked it here in Helsinki :)

I was able to stream the FP but was unable to find any video of his SP online due to them all being blocked...until now! Wow! What a fun and exciting performance with amazing jumps! He mentioned in the press con when asked about the Finnish audience that during his SP he can feel the response from the audience and that translates into more power for him during the skate.

Was reading online that Japanese fans are looking forward to seeing him at WTT later this month :) I don't know where the entry list is or if there's confirmation that he'll be going but I hope he brings the house down again!

Hoping for the Olympic season he can have two well-suited programs again!

I think he totally deserves that 86PCS! Especially when comparing with other men in this competition. Between the two American men is exactly where he should be placed.

I am still in Helsinki and haven't had the time to check out the messages here yet, but congrats to Boyang for the bronze! Totally deserved!

I still can't believe my SpiderBoyang repeated as Worlds medalist!!!
And the LP was way better than I expected, he was really good outside the jumps! His speed and flow have improved so much, and he didn't lose them after all those quads but was strong until the end. He also really knows how to engage the audience and was so invectious with his joy. He improved in everything across the board in PCS and I can only , because that is huge. (And similar to Barcelona, I think he looks stronger in practices even. I expect more improvements next season :drama: he has so much talent and potential!)

I can't wait to see him in the gala!

Hanyu mentioned Boyang as being the one that started the quad craze and that it's because of him they all realized a 4lutz was humanly possible.

I thought that was very nice of Hanyu! He sure knew how Boyang struggled with getting positive press (unlike Nathan) and it showed Hanyu's sense of fair play and generosity to mention Boyang out there :luv17:

Off-Topic: the bbc commentary of boyangs LP was kind of a joke. They gushed all over Nathan and said during Nathan's pretty empty program that his SS and components are nothing to sniff at and how Nathan was a all-around skater. then at Boyang's marvelous skate they couldn't stop pointing out how there's nothing going on in his program and that it's all about jumps with Boyang. :palmf: but to be fair, they both weren't very knowledgeable, so they probably just repeated what others have told them, without actually comparing those two skates with each other themselves...

German eurosport guys also mentioned in their sp commentary that it takes a few seasons to loose the association with just being a jumper, just like it was with Fernandez in his earlier years.

Russian eurosport commentators was very impressed during LP and said Boyang looks great especially after Nathan. They also mentioned his progress in expression, artistism, SS, work with the audience. They also said he very musicion. :)
(Poor English, like always)

awww guys you have to watch the small medal ceremony with Hanyu, shoma and Boyang! It's much more relaxed than the official one and Hanyu is just such a sweetie for shouting Tiantian, Jia you! (Boyang, give your best!). Yuzuru is such a mom for caring for the younger two skaters lol.

They also talk about how they celebrated after the long program and what kind of music they listen to, as well as a little bit about their new programs next season! super funny and adorable interviews!

Also, when asked whether Boyang had received a lot of messages from Chinese fans after the LP, he replied: yes, he got a lot of messages from Chinese fans, but also a lot of congratulations from Japanese fans and he felt it was very heartwarming!:luv17: (Misha translated it a little bit differently but I think this is nearer to Boyangs wording)

edit: btw misha was awesome as a translator! He should always be translating for team china ;)

Misha did sound like a great translator, I was very impressed!

Yes!!!! Congratulations Spidey Boyangman!!!!

So so impressive!! and he is the only skater to deliver two pristine clean programs in the whole of men's event. So so proud of you, Spidey!! Clean SP and Clean FS. Well done!!

I also liked how at the end of his SP, he grabbed the 'spiderman' soft toy from one of the flower girls, ha ha! What really grabbed my attention was his funniness and charm during the performance and 'after' the performance. Usually after the FS, most men were looking pretty sweaty and exhausted (Hanyu/Shoma - lots of sweating, Nathan - thought he was looking really tired and gased out half way through the FS!) but NOT Boyangman, he was having the time of his life, smiling, waving, cheerful, that infectiousness charm of his, plus I didn't see any sweat!! He looks like he could do a couple more quads after the FS!! He shows he has great fitness and strength!! :yahoo::yahoo::yes2::yes2::yes2::yes2:

Thank you, Spidey, for cementing that faith in your fans. I know he could deliver a clean SP but I was nervous for the FS and he proved us wrong. Thank you Thank you!!!
