Boyang Jin | Page 43 | Golden Skate

Boyang Jin

the bloody cctv commentator even had to gall to say boyang gave up on his skate - yeah, why don't they try falling hard and bouncing against the boards like that and then keep falling on hard ice consecutively 5 times? see if they can still get their asses up to continue the rest of the program!

CCTV, sigh. They later used a very disrespectful news headline in their television program to report Boyang's performance. It was kind of hard to explain the intended pun they used, but it was at best impolite. They even published a news article using a black-and-white photo of him with colored photos of every other skater. Black-and-white photos are usually used for dead people. This is way more vicious than I thought. When you have all the colored photos of the event to choose from, you specifically choose a black-and-white one; I cannot help but feeling they are doing this on purpose. I do not expect them to be happy about his performance, but I thought they could at least be professional and show some human decency. I have never seen them being so vicious to any of their skaters who put out bad performances.

That's just so sad. I'm sure any skater after a rough skate is juuust eager to hear all the news broadcasts etc. bash him. Like, my first instinct would be being supportive? But I guess that's just wishful thinking on my part, sigh...

CCTV is like that. They are only supportive when you delivers. They didn't seem to give a damn about his injuries at SA, with commentators acting like "Injury? What injury?" during SP. Then last month during an post-Olympic interview, they had the gut to say "we've always been very supportive" to his face. That being said, what they did after this past WC is low even bye their standard.
The commentator sublimeskating mentioned above, who said Boyang had given up on his free? I never understand why so many people are fond of her. She does most of the commentary on figure skating and gymnastics, offers little insight into their techniques etc, is usually interested in commenting their mental states, and takes pride in citing poems when doing commentary.

Now other than a potential growth spurt, lack of full run-throughs, I do wonder if his skating skills have changed to the degree they are affecting his jumps-specifically his entry speed. I don't think he went that much closer to the boards compared to previous year, but his jumps are bigger this season.

His SS have improved and his jumps are bigger. I just don't know why they were fine during the Olys? I did remember thinking that even his StSq in his practice videos after the Olys looked better already.

Rest up, Spidey, you've well deserved it :D And we will always be there to support you. https://twitter.com/BoyangFanpage/status/978238623639203841

One thing you just can't find any fault in is his attitude. Always positive, looking ahead, humble and gracious. I was super sad and depressed not to see SpiderBoyang in the gala (I swear at one point I was singing the SpiderMan theme in my head D=), but if Boyang doesn't let it get him down, I won't either. And his smile for the audience in the KnC was so precious, if anything, I love him more then before :luv17:

And while I think it might have been better for Boyang to just skip this event (if it was so difficult to get himself motivated for it after an exhausting season), I'm selfishly happy he was there. I really, really, really wanted to see his SP live, and I wasn't disappointed. I've seen him live in Barcelona 2015 and was so excited and floored by his improvements until Helsinki 2017 - but I think this jump now is even bigger! He used to be slow at first, got better, and now his speed is fine. Most importantly he can carry it so well throughout his step sequence, gets it easier, and his edges and turns are so much cleaner. And I just love the way he performs CTHD - he has clearly worked on his expression a lot, his love for this music is obvious, and I love the music change towards 3A/steps and how is movements are sharper and stronger instead of more flowing like in the first part. Honestly, you could take out the jumps and I would have still loved watching that skate - zero "he's just a jumper" about that!

(I think I will just rather skip the LP...?^^")

Outside of that, here's the cute stuff that happened:
I came to Milan with a huge suitcase, half full with plush toys to throw for skaters. One of them was a toothless (the dragon from how to tame your dragon) for Boyang - and he actually had that with him in the KnC after the SP. Thing is, I'm blind, Boyangs costume and toothless black - and I didn't see it. Friend A next to me did, and said "Look, he has your plushie!". And I was like "huh? No.". Friend B from the other side "No look, he really has it!". Me, only seeing the tigress he had "no, that's not mine!". Three people in the row before us turning around, basically in a choir: "Yes it's yours!". Me: :scard7:
We also ran into Boyang off ice - three times in my case. Once was just in the mall pretty close to the arena, after the mens SP (where we also saw Brendan Kerry and Jinseo Kim, standing behind us in the line at BurgerKing, talking about how Aljona & Bruno will win Pairs easily anyway  ). And we thought if we see him again, we want to ask for a picture (because everyone was #TeamBoyang there!). After the Men's LP, we came just down the stairs into the hall, walking 10 meters while talking about "how unlikely that would be though" and how "so far we actually haven't seen more then one or two skaters around here" and... bam, a wild Boyang appears, pretty much right next to me. I don't even know where he came from! And I just immediately went "What, Boyang?!" - and sadly not in my head, but out loud. He heard it, stopped walking, looked at me and basically I went "eeeeeeehhhhhhmmmmm". Before someone grabbed him and pulled him away. So we decided if we stalk, we do it right, and followed them, ending up at the Edea booth. Grabby hands man turned out to be Misha Ge, who started talking with some Edea people (and Boyang, eh... was there, looking sleepy xDD). We waited a bit (a few other fans had seen them and followed too, maybe 10 people), and when Boyang was a bit further to the side not talking with anyone, a friend of mine went over, asking for the picture. And Boyang answered with one word, one single word - which none of us understood  so my friend just continued to stare at Boyang, not knowing what to do, and he just stared back. My guess is he said yes and was waiting for her to do something, but everyone was just very confused, and so nothing happened and they just stared at each other for a moment. Then Misha got possessive again and gone was the Boyangman. Later that day though, when we walked through the Metro (yes, we skipped Ice Dance ^^"), we saw Boyang again - and we all had the very strong impression he us too, judging by how he looked at us - I guess we were "memorable" enough xDD so, we did get to ask for a picture again. And he said yes, shouted something to the group of people he was with that hadn't seen us and continued their way onwards, and turned to take a pic with us. The thing is, his group didn't seem to hear him, and so they just continued to walk away. Boyang took the pic with us anyway, but it's... kind of hilarious because we have three pics, and while my friend and me look like the living heart eyes emoji, Boyangs face goes from 🙂 to 😶 to 🤨. And then he... quite literally ran away XD I mean, he nodded shortly and quickly wanted to go, I said "thank you", he turned around to answer something that was more then one word, that - surprise! - no one understood. Again xDD and then we saw him running to catch up with the rest of his group - my friend who hadn't realized there were other people at all though turned to us saying "oh, we really scared him...?" "xDD Funny enough, the BoyangMan gang then continued on to the same track as us - and yes, he saw us. We got into the same train, and we thought "let's move away a bit, before he really gets scared", so we did until we didn't see them anymore. Got out at our stop, up the stairs and... Bam, wild Boyang appears again, right next to me. And yes, he saw me, again. At that point I was just "I'm not stalking you, I swear I'm not stalking you, I really really promise..." xD
Gotta be said though, Boyang was popular! We weren't the only ones asking for a pic while we saw him there, and others said he was quite "busy" on one metro too. So, who cares about the bad LP, Boyang is loved as he should be by fans :luv17: Also, because I can not not say it - he's a lot more handsome in person then on TV. Just so you know

Regarding next season and his further development - I guess the best way I can say this is Boyang has my absolute trust and faith by now. Are there still obvious weaknesses? Yes. But very obvious improvements too. And I have no doubt the AmaJin BoyangMan will continue to improve and manage to pry those points out of the judges hands. He has it harder, it might take longer - but I trust him. Hopefully he gets a good rest for now and can focus on himself and what he achieved this season, not the stupid media. Go BoyangMan! :cheer:

That's great that you were able to meet him! Sounds like he didn't know what he'd signed up for with the pics, though.

Li'Kitsu I am so dead envious of you:hpull:.I never saw Boyang but I did got to meet Hanul Kim and Yura Min on the metro after men's LP and got their autograph on my ticket. Yura Min asked me if I was going to watch dance as well and I said I didnt like dance and I cringed at myself in the same moment as I remembered she was an ice dancer. Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Boyang was more handsome in person than in TV. Boyang isnt exactly celebritiy type handsome, but he looked so perfectly beautiful in person, also his LP costume is extremely sparkly.

Awww Li'Kitsu I envy you. So I guess it's safe to assume he speaks less English than he understands? What is your impression of him after the fs by the way? Some people on twitter said he looked downcast while others said he was happily sightseeing.

Dang. I want to go to an event, now. The skaters all sound nice, but even if I couldn't meet them, it would be great to watch them skate!

Ah, I heard from friends at an iceshow that Boyang is a bit of a pushover when it comes to fans. Unless your request is truly unreasonable, he probably won't say no. =D
I don't think he knows he's popular overseas, since he doesn't stalk the internet as much as Yuzu, plus the great firewall of China means he doesn't have twitter access all the time.
Heh, next time I should shadow you guys-I get photos, you guys get a walking Eng/Chn translator. XD

Wow, Li'Kitsu, I'm so envious! :luv17: But I have to say I'm selfishly happy he went as well. After most guys I wanted to see withdrew, it would not have been nearly as enjoyable had Boyang not been there, despite the heartbreak in the free. I think CTHD is even better IRL than on TV. And I'm also kinda glad my plane was leaving too early for me to make it to the Gala, because the tickets were pricey and the one EX I really wanted to see was Spidey anyway. But I think his outing in Milan won't really hurt him in the long run. Media erasure and underscoring is sadly nothing new to him, and this season has mostly been successful for him anyway. And I'm seeing a lot of support for him from the fans and even people who don't really love him, so I think (and hope) he'll get over it just fine :D

I just registered to chime in about Boyang. He's going to do an ice show from 20 until 22 April in Korea. It's the LG ThinkQ Ice Fantasia in Korea. Since ice shows tend to have smaller ice rinks maybe he can adjust his jumps' coverage through preparing for the ice show and performing in it?

Oh, that's great! IDK about jump coverage, but I'm glad he's getting to skate in an ice show!

Will look forward to any videos that surface.

One question for Boyang fans! I was in Milan for the Men's FS and I've noticed Boyang always jumps super close to the boards, which means that if he falls he ends up crashing into it. Does he always do that? :(

That's what we've all been worried about. He really leaves his jumps for the very last moment and does them super close. But breaking that habit could be difficult for him as he's been doing it like that for a long time. His jumps have also gotten bigger (someone here mentioned it might be because of his improved skating skills) so it's a bigger problem than it was in the past. If you look through the last few pages, you can read some posts discussing this.

Boyang has just being invited to an ice show in Korea in April. Other guests include Junhwan CHA, Evgeni Plushenko, Misha Ge, Evgenia Medvedeva, Alina Zagitova, Gabielle Daleman, Savchenko&Massot, Volosozhar&Trankov. The show will be directed by Brian Orser.

Oh wow, the whole cast sounds awesome! I hope there will be some videos of it.

A pushover? Poor baby  I'll remember it for next time though
And that's a deal! We've decided later that we should have said "Boyang, you are so handsome, please take a picture with us!". So you know your first translator job ;)

As for how he seemed to me... uhm, not sure how much I can even judge there, but especially still in the arena he looked exhausted to me. I wouldn't have said sad or downcast, rather like he just wanted to go to sleep. He looked a bit more upbeat later in the metro, but then I also thought he might have been a bit.... shy? Intimidated? Insecure? My impression was potentially because we were English speakers, he looked similar with other non-Chinese fans who approached him (oh geez I hope the first fail in understanding him didn't contribute to that "xD). But that was also pretty soon after the LPs, so maybe he was still a bit more subdued then and got back to his usual sunshine self after more sightseeing. I thought mostly it was nice he took a pic with us even if he would have had every right to feel like he didn't want to, and while seeing his group run away and knowing he'd have to chase them. Sweetheart, if you ask me :)

As for the news of Boyang joining an Ice Show:  An Ice show directed by Brian even: 2x
(I'm still holding out hope Boyangman might be in Yuzu's Ice Show, and I'm taking that as a positive sign. No bursting my bubble please  )
