Boyang Jin

Sorry for double posting but do we know whether he's training any new quads this off season? I read somewhere that he is training for quad loop but that seems to mostly be rumours though I would love to see him do a quad loop. Is it probable that he's training quad flip? His triple flip is great technically already so I don't think quad flip will be that much of a problem for him. Quad Axel is obviously out of the table since he said it himself that he wasn't brave enough. Thoughts? Rumours?

Actually Boyang once said in a live stream that the flip is his least favourite jump so I don't think he would add a quad flip. I think he would have added the quad loop this season if it hadn't been for the injury.

Ah that's a shame. His triple flip has great technique on par with that of Yuzu and Nathan. Maybe he can try quad flip once he feels more comfortable with the jump. His quad loop will be amazing to see. I hope he has resumed training for it now that he's fully healed.

He could do quad loops in practice and attempted one at last season's 4CC (but failed) In an interview before COC this season, he said they initially thought about incorporating a quad loop into the program but later decided against that. He didn't say why at the time but I'm guessing due to injuries? He had also been dealing with inflammation in his left foot (he mentioned that in an interview after the Olympics).
Also it seems his season is not officially over yet. News online said he would compete in a regional event (a provincial one) that will be held in his home city on April 13-15.

Yes it sounds likely the injury this season played a part in that decision. His 4Lo looked good in the one practice video I remember, and I'm sure he'll want to bring it back to be even more competitive - Boyang wants to reach "can win without relying on other guys mistakes" level after all, and more technical fire power will help him (especially since the judges like to hold him a bit lower on GOE and PCS compared to others -_-).

And geez, another event? But he's on holidays already, so I'm a bit surprised. Right on the same dates as Yuzus Ice Show too, so I guess my hopes of seeing Boyangman there and more Yuzu Boyang interactions are gone :(

I've heard of this competition. It's not mandatory as far as I can tell so he can withdraw! Several other skaters are also listed as competitors.

I guess the injury did figure into why he didn't do 4Lo, but honestly, I don't really mind. We've seen some great improvement from him this season when it comes to skating skills and performance, so I can't complain. I have no doubt he could raise his BV with the 4Lo for next season though. But I guess it also depends on if he can get it to be stable enough, especially with the revamped GOE coming next season. He really needs to skate clean, and preferably consistently throughout competitions, to get good scores, so who knows. It might still be a while before we get any updates on what he's planning.

Good to know - I mean if he wants another competition of course he should do it, but given what he already said after WC I was immediately worried "xD hopefully he'll withdraw if he thinks it's too much.

________

And yes it will take forever until we know anything I guess... Music choices, layout, GPs... Joys of the off season

I found that a bit weird as well, especially since he had withdrawn from the latest national competition. On the other hand, he still has the Korean ice show so maybe he thought another competition would help him keeping focused?

His milk ad for example.

I have to watch this!

Didn't he say his season was over? Or at least implied it was? Seemed he was ready for the vacation he's on!

As for 4Lo... I know he's been training it, and he's still been improving his SS. I'm assuming next is TR, so IDK if he'll add a 5th quad. Maybe replace a 4T or the 4S? It would be great to see him update layout, especially because I have the confidence he won't neglect the other side of skating. But also, if it interferes, I'd probably like to see him do the TR improvement first. The +/- 5 GOE is definitely something that somewhat rewards quality (for the perfect mark, at least), so better/more difficult transitions into his 4Ts would help. I do respect his approach of working wholistically more. The fall deductions might also give him and his team time to think, given their severity.

He did imply that his season is over. Right now he is on holiday in Harbin whereas his training location is in Beijing. I highly doubt he's getting ready to compete at this event. Seems more likely that he'll be doing ice shows instead of provincial competitions. He's had a long season after all.

Hi, just came to ask whats up with all the Peppa Pig photos? I don't get it, is this some kind of inside joke.

I never heard of him taking dance classes. Did he say it in an interview?

Old, but here: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?57644-Canon-interviews-Boyang-Jin

Makes sense, given how he's constantly improving. I do hope he takes more of them now, though, he still needs improvement. Right now, I feel like connecting his movements, and especially with the music, and better posture would help him most with the PCS. His SS are very good now, at least in the SP. If he is able to better showcase them in the LP, with good dance moves and performance, I bet his PCS will be boosted even more, and not in relation to how clean he is.

He's been improving a lot and I do hope he is taking more dance classes. We should also take into account the lack of transitions in his program, if he adds more transitions and shorter set up for his jumps, his PCS will be bigger than it is now. I wish he would get a different choreographer for his LP. Lori is good when it comes to choreographing his SP but his LP isn't that remarkable in terms of choreography. It would do him well to find another choreographer. David Wilson perhaps since some skaters from Team China go to him for choreography?

I think whoever can challenge him with more intricate programs. They should challenge him, he doesn't seem like he doesn't want to be. Tom Dickson, too.
