Brennan has no skating knowledge and should be ignored!

And don't count out the "kid factor" that Kimmie has. Most people also agree that if Kimmie pulls out all the stops, she could be a spoiler, much like Sarah and Tara did. No big secret there.

Most people did not see this, and I certainly never believed there was a hope of this happening. Clearly there wasnt.

Actually, she doubled her last triple lutz; she never fell in that Bolero performance at US Nats. She doubled the lutz almost right in front of where I was sitting so I remember it well. It wasn't MK's strongest skate of that competition (her SP was much better than her LP that year) but it was beautiful and I had no problem with her getting a few sixes back then. :)

And even though I don't always agree with her, I do think Christine Brennan knows and cares about this sport. She doesn't always say things in a way that's not controversial but she does bluntly state her opinion on things and I can't fault her for having an opinion. We all have one! :)

Yeah, My bad. But, that program itself wasn't worthy of a 6.0. I love her programs. They are classy & beautiful, Soulful & Not over reaching or overly dramatic. But, that program was was just too bland. She took way too much stuff out that Christopher dean put in. Had that program had more inbetweens she would have gotten a medal at last years worlds.

But, I do love her programs & her skating:agree:

That I can agree with. She still skates like a Junior skater As does emily. They have the jumps but the maturity is still lacking big time..

I actually have started to like Kimmie. I think she has a great future and should be proud of her effort at her first Olympics. She is not quite there yet though in maturity and overall skating quality, she already has great consistency doing harder 3/3s and a good head on her shoulders though. She will be fighting for the medals in a year or two though. I just couldnt have seen her doing anything as far as medals here though, no matter how many jumps she did.

I can see that she will have a great future in skating. She is on her way. But, as of right now. She is lacking. But that comes with time.

Emily like her sister is very herky jerky. They aren't smooth or graceful at all. They got the jumps. But, very over the top Flapping & jerkness to them both. No Soul whatsoever.

I disagree. Emily is an athlete with a great deal of potential. Her jump technique is far better than Sarah's. Did you see that LUTZ? It was a LUTZ. I swear!

It's true that she needs depth in her presentation. But, keep in mind, this was her first senior international. Artistic maturity takes time and experience. Even so, she has great presence. She draws the eye to her. She's got the Hughes' fighting spirit. What I liked best was how she conveyed that she enjoyed every second out there. She loved what she was doing. How often do we get to see that? I enjoyed it with her.

I think that it is wrong to expect that rookies be on the same level as veterans. It's very unfair to dismiss them for not having sophistication in their relationship to the music. Especially when there are some real veterans who don't do any better in that area after years of experience. The kid has all kinds of potential. Give her a chance. She did really well. For her level of (in)experience, she was just wonderful.

7th place is amazing for someone who was an ALTERNATE to the team. That, along with Kimmie's 6th place, means that US ladies skating isn't dead after all. They could be the future of US skating assuming they stay healthy and keep improving.

also, consider the group of skaters Emily was able to beat...Carolina Kostner, Miki Ando, Elena Sokolova, Elena Liashenko...got some former World Medallists in there! That's impressive in itself.

I am not saying that she should be on their level. No way, of course. Not everyone can be michelle or sasha when it comes to the artistic side of skating right off the bat. However. You can tell when someone has natural grace & Soul. The girls lack that. But, they are very very strong tech wise. Emily is much better than sarah though. Sarah has an awful back & counldn't stand up straight if you stapled a board to her back. Emily has a much better posture. But, still she will be able to get by on her tech side of skating. Just look at irina, & so many other althletic skaters.

Well- in terms o US ladies our #3s have been strong or the last 25 years- I think Every skater on a US Oly team after 80 has been a world medalist (before or after)

I like Emily or the most part but she's just not there yet. She does have guts though- and that matters. Her edge jumps are better but Emily doesn't have Sarah's edge jumps or any lightness.

Kimmie is just coltish or my tastes but that may change. I still think BeBe, Alissa and Katie could give either a run or their money.

I think Rochette was really the one with the coming out party since she is the highest inishing irst time Olympian and jumped rom 9th to 5th. I think she has the potential to polish her edges & really make a run o things.

IMO, she was a little under scored on PCS at SP. Her skating reflected ease of movements on ice....she should've been place ahead Emily Hughes, compare to Rochette she was drag heavely over the ice.

I don't think she is ever going to be a drop dead beautiful skater. I do think there's potential for her to be a stunning, interesting, and entertaining skater. Perhaps with a lot more polish, she will develop a certain elegance. It's going to be really interesting to see what she does with her gift. I just hope she doesn't get stuck in power skater mode.

She already has a certain elegance. And she has the ability to project to the top of the arena. She had it in 2003 when I first saw her at US Nationals when she was falling on every jump. I can still hear her music and see her in her burgundy velvet costume. There is something about Emily Hughes that is very memorable. On Olympic Ice, Dick Button was talking about meeting the Hughes family back 5 years ago when Emily was 12--and the point is that he had a clear image/memory of Emily as this energy charged little being. When you think how many people Dick meets, and that Emily was not visible in skating at the time, it's amazing.

Among her strong points, besides the kind of effervescent projection that Irina has, are that both her flip and lutz are on completely correct edges...no flutz...no lip...not on flats...and a strong, flowy outside edge on landings, in general. Her spins are fast, centered, and the positions are strong. She has reasonable flexibility. She could benefit from a good choreographer and some attention to her hands/arms, but if she can get her 3loop under control she has a real future if she wants it. Also, she obviously has great competition nerves, and that's something that's hard to teach. I look forward to see her performances at Worlds.

I hope she doesn't grow any more though...that would make it a lot harder.

Kimmie on the other hand is very forgettable so far.

Brennan is never correct! and she is not sweet

I'm going to keep posting this post until trolls disappear or find some mannners...

1) your opinion is valid if and only if you state it as an opinion , "I feel, I think, in my opinion, it seems to me, in my observation, etc..."

2) making broad and general statements about others (even Christine Brennan) especially in a negative light is just rude and is an invitation to be bashed by others as a troll.

to whit: A stopped clock is right at least twice a day, thus it is IMPOSSIBLE for Ms. Brennan to be "never correct"

also: just because she says things you don't like doesn't mean "She's never sweet." it just means you don't agree with what she says, END of story.

Ok
1) You're correct, I would say, in my opinion, she isn't sweet, specially by making some rude comments about certain people. This is my opinion, I don`t like her because of that kind of comments that are irrelevat now. But, again, is only my opinion, I'm sorry if I hurt someone by the way I express myself.

In my opinion what a lot of people forget (when comparing Kimmie
& Emily to the veterans ) is that both Sasha and Michelle were much
more polished when they were their age. I think that we are seeing an
end to a era of very talented skaters.

They may have the jumps, but to me both Kimmie and Emily skate very robotic. But I do give credit to them for placing in the top ten.

I quasi agree about the ending of an era. But the truth is we've been lucky that Kwan has been a segway between several talented skaters as opposed to the usual dropoffs.

LuLu Vs Kwan is still the all time rivalry for my tastes since they both were spell-binding when on. But really we've had a number of great women who would have appeared moreso had Kwan and Sluteskaya not been near the top so long.

Lipinski and Hughes were great competitiors but I really think the great skaters of the last decade where Kwan, Chen, Nikodinov, Mid career Maria and late career Sasha. Sluteskaya, Bobek and Anna Rechnia all had flashes of brilliance and some strong elements but don't hold my memeory over multiple/consecutive seasons. I think the last two seasons have pretty much shown us a more typical world where we do not have multiple great performances at once. It's not bad but we've gotten used to more.
