I've been following Brian's career for ages and I know how he can just pick himself up and skate brilliantly, even ill.
Brian has been very stressed since the beginning of the season, because he knows that at some point someone's gonna beat him as no'one is invincible. This happended at the Euros and what's more, he was beaten not by one, but by two other guys. I hope that this defeat relieved a lot of the stress Brian had.
Although Brian is never honest to others about his condition ( he always says he's ready, just to put pressure on the other competitors) sometimes he isn't honest with himself, which is quite worrying. This was the case during the olympic season - a season of lying to himself resulted in his sixth place. However, Brian has matured and at the last Euros he didn't lie to himself about his condition, so that's positive.
Brian also underestimates his competitors. He is right in seeing Daisuke and Stéphane as his main adverseries, but he dissmisses Tomas, which is a mistake. Brian needs to give himself a specific person to fight against, but when his main contender turns out to be someone he didn't think of, this often stresses him and makes him blunder. It's also the same when he doesn't have any of those main contnders against him at all. He fears to be beaten by someone whome he shouldn't be beaten by, and then his skating goes pear-shaped because of that stress. That was partly what happended at the 05 worlds. He was expecting to have to fight against Plushenko for the title, but not only did the latter drop out, but he was against an increasingly favorite Lambiel, who, two months before at the Euros, wasn't considered as someone who could challenge Brian. But as I said, Brian has matured, and he handles stress better than before.
I'd love to see Brian become world champ again, but if it's gonna happen, Brian's going to have to give it all he's got, and fight as if he were against his old ennemy, Plushenko.
