We will see a Canadian medal in every event this week, starting with a shock bronze from Marcoux/Buntin in the pairs. GO CANADA! Unfortunately no golds for Canada though.

VINLUVSKWAN said:Ladies: The Japanese contingent is strong, same as in Torino (whether or not with the absence of Shizuka and Mao), and Yukari and Yoshie are consistent top 3 finishers internationally. There will be one Japanese on the podium unless Kimmie or Joannie are outskated (in this case 2 JPN skaters may medal, not unlikely mind you.) Sasha will win either gold or silver, Fumie will medal (for the first time in 3 years since 03), and the 3rd medal is wide open for grabs among the other JPN skaters, Kimmie, and Joannie.
I don't think Joannie will medal b/c her non-jump elements are not as difficult/intricate as the other ladies, esp. compared to Sasha. Compared to the Japanese, Rochette may earn lower TES.
JonnyCoop said:As for Joannie -- what I really noticed about her programs in Torino, and what really impressed me and made me a fan of hers, is that, to my eyes, she has great transitions between the big elements and has something interesting going on (usually with her feet) in every second of her program. She only finished less than 14 points out of bronze in Torino, and that was with a botched short program. I certainly wouldn't count her out of the running. However, given the fact that the judging here already seems a little loopy, she does possibly run the risk of being underscored.

I don't think there is any reason to think that Jeff or Evan won't beat Oda. Jeff has also come top two or three in all of his international events this season, including THE OLYMPICS.

I wouldn't mind seeing her make the podium here at all (I'd rather like it) but is there something off in her technique or am I just nuts? (I do not want to hear 'yes!' on that last question).
CDMM1991 said:Yeah I find I have a hard time convincing myself that Marcoux and Buntin will defeat any of the top three, and not be passed by Savchenko and Szolkowy. I'm not saying it's impossible, and there's no one that would love to see them on the podium more than me, but I just don't see it happening this time around. My prediction is that they will end up fifth, still a great placement for them.

I've also noticed that Joannie's jumps look different than most others and the way she lands isn't very traditional looking. When she gets rougher/tired, she sometimes drops her shoulders ala Yagudin upon landing, but that may be the result of executing high and powerful jumps like most of hers. However, I don't have a problem with them, and I think when she's at her best, her jumps are just beautiful--just rewatch her loop in her Olympic LPMafke said:Am I the only one that finds her to be _very_ retro (in a very good way). The first time I noticed (as opposed to saw) her was herTorino LP (Eurosport didn't show her SP AFAICT) and she reminded me (in no particular order of Sumner, Manley and Chin with a little aftertaste of Hammil and Poetzsch).
