Caroline Zhang's 2009-10 season

Oh; in case anyone was wondering: Caroline needs to win SC with 166,82 points to beat Ashley in a 24-point tiebreak. Only Miki, Mao, Akiko and Yu Na have achieved such a high score or higher this season...

Actually, if Caroline wins SC she beats Ashley og Alena and goes til the final

Tie-breaker
a) the best place obtained in the two designated events will counts for better place/ranking.
Eg. 1st and 4th is better than 2nd and 3rd place.

The next ite-breaker is:
b) the higher total scores obtained in the designated events will count for better place/ranking.

someone states zhang stops before jumps and after, well i hate to say it so does rachel -no points taken off, mirai , ashley didn't at her first gp event, but she did at nhk no points taken off, alissa
all i am saying is if they are going to take points off for zhang for stopping so they should for the rest of the girls. (which they don't) why no one points their stopping and starting out, just zhang. but the other us girls do it to.
they even stop in their steps, yes part of it so why can't zhang stop in step be part of it. in fact look at evan and some of the boys, and pairs they stop in steps and get points added.
conspiracy no--discrimintory yes -look closely at all skaters how they stop and start. in their jumps and don't hold edges etc. you might be surprised.
as far as live yes i saw them live --b/a was slow , so was sasha , the only skaters who were somewhat fast was the skaters from japan,
the us skaters were slow(all of them)
in fact if you want the sport to grow--you need the people who see it from tv/youtube not just live. Because if people don't like what they see on tv why should they waste their money and see it live. if it doesn't look good/skaters fight for it on tv it isn't much different live. maybe audience is more excited but that is all. people get into it more, and then they go home and discuss what they saw.agree with scores, point out mistakes and what not, like shows-whether it was worth all the time, trouble, money, gas, mileage etc. whether or not next year spend money on the skating event or stay home and watch.

fairly, sometimes I think your user name here shoud be "unfairly" ;) :)

While you were at it, you should also have noted how Caroline is basically ignored at GS and nobody ever bothers to post or show support for her. :p

Although, it might be better to wait until we get to page 87 and over 80,000 views of this Caroline support thread. :)

Maybe Zhang should try pairs skating. There's not much she can do with her singles skating career due to her technical flaws and poor skating skills especially speed. We all know she is a hard worker. But let's be honest, not everybody can reach the top by just working hard. You need have the caliber to be the very top. Zhang really does not have the athletistic ability.

you are right, part of the reason is because like michelle---everyone else skating fans cruicified michelle fans base called them uber if they pointed out other skaters mistakes and stated their skaters skated better, more perfect and Ignored their favorite skater mistakes, andmade sure everyone knew about michelles mistakes like caroline zhang.

zhang mistakes is well know--because of gs other skater fan base doesn't want to acknowledge or let on their skaters mistakes are ignored, overlooked, and are cheated for. when pointed out you state we are conspiratory when we aren't.
i just point out all mistakes for all skaters, and tell how other skaters mistakes are overlooked compared to zhang-all you come up with is mulekick-which rachel and mao does(not as bad) but they do it. all current us skaters (including sasha skate shallow, change edges on landings or loop landings, whatever zhang does they all do it. only zhang gets pointed out because the other skater fan base won't allow zhang fan base to get a word in edgewise or truth out.
it is laughable how other skaters nailed the one they don't want up in top tier yet allow their favorite skaters up in top tier with messy, sloppy, lousy landings, shallow edges, looping spins, uncentered spins and you and the usfsa say their the next best thing,, alissa, rachel, mirai, alexi. yet all are skating like junior skaters not senior skaters.. ex--sa sp mroz had highest tes scores with his landings (talk about favoritism)

the idea that GS is not friendly to Michelle Kwan fans (or any fans for that matter) is so overly laughable.

zhang won't get anywhere why

Rachel Flatt has Dorothy hamill ogm-coach Ashely wagner has tara ogm coach,
alissa czisny has brian boitano coach
miria nagasue has kristi yamaguchi coach--check out NYTIMES article

Zhang no one outside her own coach--before you state michelle how she was in school 2007 and now she still in school,

so zhang has noone-usfsa is going to choose based on mentors not on talent, at the nationals besides sasha guaranteed spot--otherwise why put her in
pg (pepto bismol) ad. if only for the olympics unless they know something we don't which means sasha spot on oly team is guaranteed whether she shows at nationals or not-everyone else is fighting for 2nd spot on team.

anyone suffer from headaches like I do? :wall:

I am glad Skate Canada is next week. If Caroline does not win atleast "fairly" will NOT be able to blame US Skating.

Or will US Skating still be responsible for holding Caroline back? ;)

And don't forget. the other girls may have mentors but I have seen many pics of Michelle and Caroline talking and skating together.

So it seems very fair and equal to me. :agree:

Well, Skate America is over and not much has changed for Caroline's and Alissa's chances for the Final. If they win, they are in the Final. If Joannie wins with Akiko lower than 5th, Caroline or Alissa can go into the Final with a silver and a total score greater than Rachael's.

This is too complicated. I'm just going to cheer as loud as I can.

 I agree so will add "Go Caroline"

Speaking of clean programs - has anyone heard how Caroline's training has been coming along? She mentioned at TEB that she was almost done with physical therapy for her injury.
Wink wink @ Feraina

Well she is leaving for Canada on Wednesday per Facebook. At least no jetlag this time!! Away from coffee, hopefully

Ditto to that.

Wish I had more news for you all, but I don't, sorry. :p

I'm relieved, as the rest of you, that she won't have jetlag to deal with (same time zone, in fact, yay!). And yes, please don't skip lunch and drink two big cups of coffee, after not sleeping all night, right before you skate this time!

That FS, I don't know how much better it can be skated, aside from cleaning up the jumps. The SP has potential, but the FS...

It seems that the skates and scores at the GP's have been deteriorating from event to event this year, very disappointing. Even Yu-na, the one skater who was so reliable, bombed at SA. Two falls, a pop, and three downgrades. Ouch!

Did anyone notice how much Rachael's PCS went up at SA? Wow! I didn't think she gained that much in speed or presentation skills, but apparently judges think otherwise. Maybe she's faster in person.

Good luck to Caroline next week!!

She's slowly earning those "rep points" :chorus:

Anyway, that was pretty much the SOHL. I worry that she might be peaking soon and might not give her best performance at Nationals. Like it or not, with that performance she really set the bar HIGH for herself- and the other Americans.

I still have a hard time seeing how Caroline can win SC, but she's got to at least give a very good account of herself there and at Nats. It's likely that only Ashley will make the GPF, but with Rachael's very good FS at SA (beating Yu-Na's LP score), not to mention her strong showing at Worlds last season, I think the judges will be giving these 2 preferential treatment come Nats.

Caroline probably can't beat Akiko/Joannie, but if she skates 2 strong programmes and places on the podium at SC, perhaps our hopes for her to make the Olympic team won't be completely dead yet. That, and she's got to have the SOHL at Nats.

^^ Yes, MM has it right. I commonly use the abbreviation "SOHL" to refer to a blow-the-roof-off skate .
