Coaches' Corner

There is always some specific reason for every single change and of course when someone makes a change it doesn't mean that he goes to the "hic sunt leones", but the fact is that in just three years about 20 coaches already left Plushenko's school (incl. precisely Volkov, Rozanov, Ilinykch who were the "poster faces") which is definitely not a good recruiting ad. And considering those "skaters left coaches, not Plushenko" statements I think a coach who possibly considers to be employed there might have some reason to reconsider.

I'm curious, is this normal for a new academy, and the media are only noticing because Plushenko and his school are famous, or is it unusual? I have no idea how it works when a new skating school is established, and how long it takes before it settles on a permanent coaching team.

The question now is How likely is it that EG will win Coach of the Year again? Somewhat likely, likely or very likely? I mean the lady lost two phenoms in Sasha and aliona and still had the best female skater and the best
novice girl as well.

Although Eteri has more than the best female and best novice this year - she has arguably 4 of the best 6 six girls (although 3 are juniors), one of which is the World champion and arguably the 2 best juniors (although both of them are novices).

I also don't think it hurts her reputation that Aliona and Sasha left considering Aliona begged to come back..

I still 100% think it should be Mishin though - his boys in particular got 3 spots for Russia for next Worlds (and hopefully for the Olympics)!! That was never a for sure. And then Liza got a silver at World's!!

It will probably enhance Eteri's reputation if she's able to bring Kostornaia back into the running for the Olympic team (as lovely as Kostornaia is, its highly unlikely a skater with no quad or triple axel is on the Olympic team for Russia at this point).

Very interesting interview with Davydov from CSKA. It also has the video linked.

Looking at the results at Worlds, Moskvina's teams did extremely well so she might be the favorite (if there's another awards show this year). As several mentioned above, Mishin would also be a worthy candidate. It'll probably be a toss-up between those two. :giggle:

Oh wow, thank god he cleared some things up!
Sometimes one have to ask kids more detailed questions, because I have a feeling their answers on interviews can sometimes lack context.

This is with regards to Sofia saying earlier this year that she jumped 500 axels per day when learning 3A. Sounded like it’s a bit too much, but Davydov says that, the number includes all exercises to perfect the technique, largely jumping 0A or single axels. This sounds more reasonable.

Two guys and a girl!! At both World's AND WTT!!
That's right. Two guys at Worlds although their placements would not as high as I hoped.

But we have to remember EG suffered two devastating blows like no coach ever has losing two phenoms like aliona and Sasha at the same time yet she still had the best lady in the world the best Junior Girl in KV and the best novice girl in Sofia.

If EG Sofia said she did 500 axels a day some people would be calling on the authorities to investigate!

These skaters had unbelievable work ethics.

Apple, she will be a finalist. One could say that comparing what the coaches have done this year. Is like comparing apples and oranges. ;)

What about Rafa? Nathan Chen was great again at Worlds winning his third straight World title but Mariah Bell disappointed this year.

The professor can't be a 100% certainty because you pointed out what EG did with the number one lady in the world the number one Junior girl in KV and the number one novice in Sofia.

Of course EG only had Anya on the international stage and if that's the deciding factor then she won't the coach of the year again this year because KV and Sophia did not get to skate internationally.

Yeah, I was going to say, Moskvina had two medalist teams this year, I would pick her if we’re going off results.

I think their placements were as high as the Russian Fed was hoping for. An outside chance at the bronze medal for Mikhail although he was always going to be at a technical disadvantage. They were hoping for 3 spots..but definitely weren't sure of it.

If there was a junior season perhaps yes. Kamila and Daria would have been very hard to beat. However, that has already been established the previous year..

International results are of much more value..

Sofia was never going to skate internationally this year. She's too young.
