A few people have asked for a report on our trip to Champions on Ice in Chicago. Some may be interested in Chicago, some on the trip, some on COI, and some on all three.
Doctor Brent Williams rented a Cadillac for the trip. I bought the tickets in row 3, section 121, so I told Brent he had to drive. We got to Madison about 6 p.m. Saterday the 17th, and went to Perkins. Cathy a good friend on mine joined us for the meal and asked for a report, (for one).
Back to Saturday, we got to the downtown Holiday Inn about 9 - 9:30. This is a motel on top of some other business, the motel starts on the 15th floor. Our room was on the 21st floor, room 2121,,,,,,,,,,,,, So I did get some fair pictures. I will send some of these to Maryanne in Hawaii. Marryanne, was born in Chicago, got in the 4H clubs there and ended up in Minnesota working with 4H and with me. Marryanne, it was so good to get in contact with you again after several years. I may have to send a second message with more skater pictures because Chicago pictures may overload your computer. By the way, the motel was just east of the confluence of the north and south branches of the Chicago River. Those pictures are fair to good, I think.
Now for the skating. It was so good to see Irina Slutskaya. I was fearful that she would not make it, She skated great. Belbin and Aguato skated to a new one to me. It started with "Green Acres", Ben was dressed in bib overalls and Taneth in a red coat. Just like Eddy Albert and Avea Gabor. ( forgive my spelling) After a minute or so they shed some clothing, not like Candeloro, but inough to get to good skating. They were great. BTW, Philippe did shed his top, but did kept his pants on this year. It was good to see Johnny Weir and Fumie Suguri for my first time.
Nicole did a great job again this year. She was back to her natural hair color and it looked great. I think Elena Sokolova was the only of that fell on a jump in our end. Michelle Kwan took the prize for the most applaus by far. Every time she came out the croud went wild. She also did a great skate.
After skating I had passes so we got to the lower level, along with 2 or 3 hunderd others. But my friend Brent got several autographs and I got a number of pictures. My pictures are a little dark because I did not turn the flash back on and there was some back light. Brent got a few, but I have not seen his yet.
If anyone is interested in seeing a few of the pictures, send me an e mail at [email protected].
