How can the Bulgarian federation pay for 3 coaches to get this results
even at junior world they did not qualify ...
do i understand correctly they train in Russia???

MarieM, you might want to check out a thread for Davis/White in The Edge; ideas for new programs. It's interesting to think about what direction they can go in, because they've got so many options.

I
Also, I think it's a bit dismissive to say that all Schilband teams have not emotional connection to the music or each other. Like them or not, Virtue and Moir certainly have an emotional connection in all areas including the audience. Davis and White have improved in the area of relating to each other, especially this season. B/A have also shown more depth of expression this year.
:biggrin:I agree with you/ And i think, that D/W have goo d connection with this tango too.

Virtue and Moir are excellent junior skaters that still have to move one notch to the top. Get them a decent choreographer.

I think the record shows that they are excellent senior skaters as well.

The problem I have with D&W is that although his skating skills are fabulous, hers are not as good. Meryl also seems to be off the music sometimes -- like she's doing the move, but not connecting it with the music. Proportion-wise, there also seems to be a bit of a mismatch -- she has very short legs, while he has long ones. All of these things can be corrected/masked with the proper training though -- really focusing on basics, extension, posture, etc. Is Shpilband the right coach for that? We shall see.

I also have a problem with B/A's scores. A FALL in a CD should be worth a much bigger deduction than that. I understand that they were great up until that point, but still, that is such a big error and interrupts both the technical and artistic aspects of the program. If you look at their artistic mark, they were less than one point behind the clean and amazing French! That is not right - the judges held them up.

I only saw B/A and Del/Schoe on youtube but wow, the French were fantastic at making it a performance. I love that they use the time before the music even begins to create drama and set the stage. And we know from the 06-07 season that they are so sexy and sultry with the tango, and can do the foot flicking so well. I hope they can hang onto their lead, but by no means is the competition over yet!

I have to disagree with you there about the deficit being just on Meryl's side. I think they both need to work on their line and posture. Charlie has more dynamic energy but his line isn't that much more stretched out than Meryl's. He hardly ever points his feet. Proportion-wise, yes Meryl is smaller than Charlie but out of all the present day ice dance couples I think they are the closest to Torvill and Dean's height and size differential. Once they work on the small polishing touches though- watch out!!

On a little tangent, the media who keep calling Tessa and Scott the next Torvill and Dean drive me bonkers. There is absolutely nothing about them that reminds me even remotely of Torvill and Dean- and I don't mean that as an insult. Torvill and Dean were premiere artists and real pioneers but they had a British reserve to their skating- even their Bolero- sexy and dramatic- a dance for the ages but held in and powerfully contained in a masterful way. Tessa and Scott have their very own style- young fresh yet also dramatic and emotional. They really wear their hearts on their sleeves so to speak in a way that Chris and Jayne never did.

I can't wait to go home and watch the compulsory dances- stupid work!!

I just watched the top five performances, and WOW, V/M were amazing!!! Speed, edges, expression - just amazing! I agree with the British commentators, I\'d have them in first, that was spectacular!

 Yay for V/M!! They had great expression, and their edges were really smooth. It's a shame that B/A fell, but i'm sure they can pull back up. As for W/P, I'm puzzled by their placement. After they placed 5th at 4CC, I was hoping they'd do better here. Either way, I hope they can pull up. The next two segments are stronger for them than the CD.

B/A got the mandatory 1 point deduction. As you know under COP a fall is not the end all of a program. B/A scores were imo accurate. It is not like they are second, third or fourth they are sitting in fifth and their scores reflect that position, plain and simple. I thought that the the top five teams all skated very well.

Just in case anyone has been looking for it...I finally found V/M's CD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96GZ3DPtN2A A job well done indeed. Definitely deserve to be where they are. Can't wait to see how they do tomorrow.
I said this in another thread, but I think that with better opening and closing choreography, D/W could have been 5th. On British Eurosport they said D/W gave up a couple of points with their intro.

Davis and White are the most talented of all these teams. He is the best partner and the best male dancer since ... Dean.
The problem with Igor is that he lacks a vision, and all his teams are just doing the same old **** from one year to the other.
And with those two, I am going to bite. There is so much to exploit, from her face that looks like a mischivious elf to his angel like quality. Any good choreographer could use this. Instead of doing a generic blah program that has no meaning and no purpose than to deliver the tricks. They, nonetheless, tend to give more connection than any of his other team just because these kids think.

:clap::clap: ITA with these insights about D/W. They are one team I think might benefit from moving to someone besides the Shpilband team. I don't think their strengths are being utilized enough.

Count me in as well. I love both teams, but see few similarities. That's actually one of the things that I love so much about V/M — they are not the second coming of any pair before them. They are an original unto themselves.

call me ignorant or whatever but torvill and dean weren't great as people make them...to me at least. i know back in the day everything wasn't so difficult and etc but....i wouldn't have given that 6.0s...but the final twisty lift was cool hahaha

anyways...i agree. torvill and dean juxtaposed to V/M...

i guess:rolleye:

saw V/M's CD - nice kudos deep edges...but boring! right?! and the ending was....not so good..

I loved the beginning of Delobel & Schoenfelder's dance. I'm so happy they are in first.

Though I don't like their free dance at all, I feel horrible for Belbin & Agosto. She looked so crushed in the kiss and cry.

To the Delobel/Schoenfelder fans: does anyone knows what they are saying through sign language on their FD?
I just started learning sign language (my country's version, not French) and I'm working with two deaf kids so this program is quite emotional to me. It's actually my favourite dance program ever. I'm very curious about what they are saying.
