While I'm not worried about Worlds, I am worried about other events. The World Cup Skiing Finals have been cancelled and I'm quite worried about the Summer Olympics.
Looks like speedskating also cancelled international events in Calgary but domestic events are still happening. Could this be a precedent for figure skating

can you tell me which speedskating events have been canceled in Calgary because i don't see anything planned for there in the current season... there was a long track event a few weeks ago.. but this weekend the event is in the Netherlands...and it hasn't been canceled.
What was canceled was the short track worlds to be help next weekend in Korea, but those are very different circumstances as the rink is located in a dangerous spot in Korea...

I honestly know nothing about speedskating, just saw it floating around twitter
since it is a world championship, would it make more sense to cancel it because there's a larger, more international crowd which leads to more risk of the virus or less chance of cancellation because the money tied to it is greater (I'm thinking the organising body is pretty much gonna go with the money unless things get really dire in the next week)
Don't know but I JUST got a notification that SXSW (huge movie and music event in Austin, TX) has been cancelled.
I was seriously considering attending SXSW this year! Glad I didn't make any solid plans. I still plan on attending Worlds in Montreal as of now though.
I've never been. Lived there 10 years and hid in my house each time LOL.

I went to SXSW back in 2014 and it was awesome! Tons of free shows and events and complementary drinks. Activities during mid-week were fine but once the weekend rolled around, everything was absolutely packed full of people. I could see why they felt the need to cancel this year.
Then there is greedy Spokane. Lets put on our Bloomsday event, where 40,000 huffing bodies run/walk 7.5 miles packed together like sardines! Further, we will bring in people from all over the planet, including Western Washington, corona virus ground 0 for the US. Then, In June, we will have Hoopfest! the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournement in the world! 24,000 players! 3,000 volunteers! 250,000 people jammed together in 45 city blocks! What could possibly go wrong? Sorry.....but I live in active volcano country and I am the only one with a mask.

Would the Canadian government deny entry or quarantine any of the skaters, fans or officials if they are arriving from the level 3 risk areas - China, Northern Italy? Japan and South Korea are designated as Level 2 Health risks which i believe is self monitoring for symptoms. I thought for Canadian travellers if they were arriving back from a level 3 area had to self isolate for 14 days but not sure what applies to non-Canadians arriving in Canada from those regions? Its a tough situation as we shouldn't be afraid to carry on with normal life, but also don't want to unintentionally create more spread of the virus through a large gatherings.
It’s too late for a two week quarantine now isn’t it? Unless the skaters are already in Canada to start it?
Anyway the Canadian government could do what you suggest but as the date draws near it becomes more and more unlikely.
