I agree. What is your source? I would say it's not a go until the Quebec Government confirms that it is going ahead as planned. The ISU can release all the statements they want. It is not going ahead if the provincial Government doesn't give the OK.

We should have a poll as what they will decide and—most importantly, for those of us who have tickets—when they will decide it.

My guess is that they will cancel and we’ll hear tomorrow. I suspect the holdup is caused by the need to indicate whether refunds will be granted in the cancellation message.

I hope we hear by the end of the business day today (which is in 4 hours on the east coast), people need to know whether to cancel their plans asap. It appears that the ISU really really doesn't want to cancel, but they will have no choice but to comply with the authorities. And there better be refunds!

They should just hold it without an audience, a lot of other sporting events have been doing that. It will be strange but people can't be put at risk at this point. Too many people exposed is bad for high risk groups and outbreaks can overwhelm the healthcare system if they occur.

I do somewhat hope that they rethink the stuffdies toss. So many of those go to children's hospitals... i can't help but feel like a coughed on breathed on sneezed on tossed on the ground and ice stuff animal is not the best gift to sick kids under the circumstances.

I mean can we sanitize them at least?

i agree. i'm sure a lot of the athletes are already there, on their way or will be arriving in the next few days and it's almost too late to cancel.

the main concern is absolutely the huge audience from all around the world, and they are only testing the athletes. it is much more sensible to hold the event without an audience.

Apparently the virus doesn't thrive on soft/fabric surfaces. It lives much longer on hard surfaces.

I still have this flashback to Dr.House, MD episode where the volunteer that passes out stuffed toys to kids starts an infection in the hospital, so if it goes ahead, I am not bringing toys to reduce logistical nightmare and stress for everyone.

Not yet. I'm listening to it now. It appears to just be a general conference. I only started watching at 3:15 so I might have missed something.

There is a new case of someone that was on a cruise that was recently on a private Montreal transportation system. General population is not at risk from this case.

I am at work so i only logged in for a few minutes. From what was said when i was there, there is no canceling of major events planned as of now. It will depend on how the virus transmission evolves.

So far, all infected people had been confined. However, the 4th confirmed case in the region has taken public transit in Montréal. Will we see a spike in contaminated people?
