As soon as Sasha started he LP my thoughts were shes going to crack and thought it was going to be on her first jump. But she staked beautiful and was suprised when her fell close to the end. As far as hers scores don't agree with the 6.0 only because she had the fall and little bobble.
As for Michelle I couldn't watch her jump only because I didn't want to see her fall, because she's the one I was wanting to win. It's going to be a long time or never for anyone to come even close to her skating record if ever. Yes Ms Vinson holds that record but if Michelle stays around she will either tie or break it.

Wow and wow! Michelle was so fantastic. Even my husband was impressed with how effortless she makes everything look. And he is not a skating fan at all.
I loved her dress also. Absolutely gorgeous She looked fantastic. Nicole Bobek didn't need to go to all that trouble. All she needed was a Vera Wang dress.
I guess that's enough gushing.

To those who were there, what color was Michelle's dress, exactly? On my TV is looked sort of orange-y, but in the pictures it looks more pink.
This is one of Michelle's prettiest dresses yet. I liked the cut and the fit even better than the SP dress.

Michelle was absolutely incredible. Just...no words for that performance! I have to say that although I know she was brilliant at the 98 nationals I don't really remember either of those performances. I have to say that I will never forget last night's long program. The emotion in that footwork alone was enough.

I just got back from Atlanta today after watching the ladies freeskate last night. All I can say is...the energy and the feeling in that arena was unbelievable. I finally got to see an entire warm-up! Michelle went through all of the jumps and looked solid as a rock. Sasha also looked extremely good. I was so surprised that Sasha fell, but the audience did stand behind her and she received a reception only second to Michelle. She did have a great skate and her spins are phenomenal! As soon as Michelle took the ice after Angela there was a deafening roar. She completely commanded the ice throughout her performance (as all could see) and we were all on our feet for the last 20-30 seconds! BRILLIANT! I was so overcome with emotion! She gave it everything and you could clearly see that. I was in heaven! And when the 6.0s came up the audience erupted again!
I also wanted to talk about some of the younger skaters that impressed me. Stephanie Rosenthal (sp?) was the first skater to really get the crowd going. She skated to "The Mission" and wasn't absolutely perfect, doing mainly triple toes and triple sals, but she gave her performance a lot of emotion and fire and the audience loved her! Danielle Kahle was also quite impressive. In her warm up she kept missing the 3s/3l she was practicing (she did it 6-7 times!) but hit it in her program. She made some mistakes, but yet again she skated with energy and looks to have a very bright future. Poor Andrea Gardiner! I wanted to see her skate well, but she didn't at all. Jennifer Don had a mistake filled program but talk about presence! You don't really catch that on television but she is very appealing live. The same can definitely be said about Beatrisa Liang. She has such precise, wondefully executed moves (including beautiful jumps!) but she fell twice at the end of her program. I really enjoyed seeing all twenty girls perform and have four new names to add to my favorties roster: Rosenthal, Kahle, Don and Liang. But, Michelle made this trip worth every hour spent in that traffic sent from hell! It was more than I could have hoped for!

I think Michelle would have still won with that artistic expression. Sasha was good but I thought she was kind of flat. Sasha skated more joy at the first fluff comp and throughout the gr prix. I just don't think she would have caught Michelle even if she were clean yesterday. However Sasha's jumps were really nice and I think she will be on the podium at worlds. She's skating against Elena in the qual round and imo she has no competition there. She could very well win gold at worlds. She has a lot of time between now and worlds to settle with Robin.
But Michelle....that girl is just amazing and just don't know how she does it. She's like the girl before '98 Olympics...loving skating again. This time that little girl is in a mature woman's body. Wow.

I thought the first 3 minutes of Michelle's program were fairly by-the-book. Excellent jumps but not much else. It could also be that I am sick of this music already for skating programs. The last minute--where the footwork section began--was just fantastic. Really passionate and dynamic. Excellent communication with the audience and great connection with the music.
AP looked bored. It's as though she is skating because she HAS to (like "My Mommy makes me skate"), not because she WANTS to.

Michelle delivered such a consummate performance, it
was perfect in every aspect.

rgirl, I don't know how long Frank has been coaching Danielle, but the execution of the 3s3lp looked exactly like Tara. The lp goes straight up and down, popping higher than the 3s, which I always thought was not a good look, but worse is probably exactly why it stresses the hip. As Bronze said, she tried it a number of times in the warmup and splatted (also what Tara used to do; undisciplined over training). I am not kidding, the whole appearance was scary/creepy somehow. Frank should just not not be doing this. He knows better. And this plus the Tim 13 boots and a damaged skeleton thing, not to mention Yebin skating when her back still wasn't right, splatting and splatting trying to get the 3lutz going, and even Michelle with the boots makes me worry whether Frank cares as much as he ought to about his skater's health.

You had to be there to get the entire sense of the audience in the arena. It was Sasha's night. Her Malaguena had been perfect and exquisite. It was time now to change the queen of ice skating. The slip Sasha did made little difference as was shown in the scores. It was hers. = But!!
La Kwan skated onto the ice and poised while waiting for that dark and sinister music (which I hate for figure skating) and she then began to move. I am eating my hat. There was no way to beat Sasha that night. But she did.
Sasha spins are so much better; her flexibility is unquestionable; her sense of timing is perfect. Neither have exceptional jumps but they are more than adequate.
What it is? It's simply that La Kwan draws you into the program and you are a part of it. You are out there on the ice; not in your seats.
I want all of you to go to Portland next year. There is no excuse for you GS members on the West Coast. You must be part of the audience when MK skates. It's a religious experience, and I'm not religious. And catch Sasha Cohen, too, who is a great skater and who may win. But it is La Kwan who will get you even if she winds up in last place.

Joe, thanks for that super post. Even watching at home, that was exactly the sense I got. That everyone in the place felt that this was the changing of the guard, until Michelle seized the moment and made it hers.
Portland, here I come! My sister and her family live in Olympia, Washington, so that can be my excuse for making the trip.

Tharrtell, don't say that! You won't jinx her! I took my mother and we got seats 12 and 13, I made her take 13! LOL! My mother told me I didn't utter one word from the time Michelle took the ice for the warm up until the end of her program! And then all I could get out was "Oh my God!" Joe is right. The feeling in that arena was amazing. You felt as if she were skating just for you. I'm still jazzed beyond belief and it was two nights ago. Someone once told me that after you attend your first major competition you immediately become a junky...which rings very true since I'm almost ready to pawn a vital organ or two to be in Dortmund! I'm definitely going to St. Louis in 2006.
Doris, I did think Stephanie was something very special. "The Mission" was a perfect choice for her and she had some wonderful moments. And I definitely agree that Danielle Kahle is a Tara Lipinski clone. She's tiny, has the bun, the same 3s/3l technique and her long program was eerily reminiscent of a Tara freeskate. Wasn't it also selections from "Much Ado About Nothing"? Which I believe was part of Tara's World winning long program from the 1996-1997 season. But, to be honest, I found myself a bit won over by her. She has that same bubbly, vivacious quality that Tara forced me to notice and ultimately appreciate. If she can better her consistency and polish all of her moves she'll definitely be a podium threat in the future.
