A random thought popped into my head-- I wonder if B/A are going to go running back to Igor and Marina at the end of this season?!! I think it would be a really good possibility.

QUOTE]

Totally agree with you about Dom/Shab, cannot understand the judges scores especially when they are so slow. Their coach who is also Tanith and Ben's coach is not doing them or Tanith and Ben any favors.

I think Tanith and Ben should go back to Marina/Igor, but I know it won't happen. I have my own theory of what I think SHOULD happen but I am afraid to say it out loud.

Not that I particulalry enjoy b/a or k/n, I missed those teams today. I like a nailbiter competition, and without them, I felt that there was no surprises in the placements of the teams.

D/W: Great job. They seem to improve the quality of their skating each time I see them.
F/S: This free dance is growing on me (I guess I may be the minority here!). Yet today it seemed sort of tentative esp the first half. I love the first lift, but it is hard to disguise unsteadyness in it.
Dom/Shab: it isnt the slowness that bothered me. Rather, there wasn't a togethernes, a sort of cohesiveness in the program today. Everything seemed just to be slapped together (if that makes any sense). I have to congratulate them on the costume, No more wedding cake dresses here! When we said less volume, swinging to the other end of the spectrum may have been a little drastic, but it works for the program.
Del/Shoes: Not a fan of this program (I said that at first about last year's FD, and the year before, and the year before that, so I am destined to actually love it by season's end :) ) The voice does not break the monotony, it just irks me. All of the lifts were phenomenal though and i still enjoyed watching them.

Dom/Sch were way overmarked again:yes: I can't see they were better than D/w, or even F/S. They were slow, slow, with mistakes during the midline and struggle so much during the lifts. This is so horrible, too much politics. D/W were much faster and much more technical. I'm glad that Del/S won, they deserve it:clap:

OK, random comments unrelated to today's skating:

I know I'll get a lot of flack for this, but I think a problem with Meryl Davis is kind of like Kimmie Meissner's, as in the hyperextension. Of course, it's not as serious, but from what I noticed, when she isn't in a hold or doing any choreographed movements with her arms, they're always straight.

Regarding Faiella/Scalli, I actually took issue more with her costume than his. Really weird hair with overdone eyeshadow. Still, to my untrained eye, they looked quite clean today, and I would actually have placed them over Domnina/Shabalin because they were cleaner and I enjoyed them more.

To me, Domnina/Shabalin aren't dramatic skaters. They're trying to be, but it falls flat and looks very contrived to me. Maybe if they go with a quiter, more lyrical FD, it might help them, especially since they're so painstakingly slow now.

And Olivier Schoenfelder reminds me of Ivo Karlovic from tennis.

D/W should have won over Dom/Sha in the FD. This program is just fabolous - not only the interpretation and choreography is great, but also the edges, the flow and the speed. Considering many wobbles, crappy edges, slow skating, horrible spin that Dom/Sha just presented, D/W should go ahead by quite a big marigin.

I'm probably in the minority, but I actually enjoyed F/S. I thought the scores should have been closer between D/W and F/S. .
Disagree, I think that the gap was right. But I guess Dom/Sha should get around 87.

Del/Sch program grew on me. It is very particular. I cannot believe that they grab my attention with this music. I believe that this is what makes this program special. And also, everything is performed perfectly, to the smallest detail.

Oh please say....

BTW another thing that really bothered me today was the camera angles- I hated those overhead shots where I couldn't see what the skaters were doing and what their faces looked like. Made me a bit dizzy.

Did they say what happened to Tanith/Ben? I feel so bad for them, I still think they made mistake switching to Linichuk. They are going south when D/w are climbing up. It's not too late to switch back to Igor. Compare their FD's, Igor's program was more creative than Linichuk's. If there's no politics, both Linichuk's teams won't make it at the Worlds podium. I have no doubt that Del/S will win again at Worlds.

Oh no, what happened to Tanith and Ben? They deserve success so much, because they are such fighters and never give up and still try to improve. I think it is just not fair that they have to struggle that much, while Dom/Shab can skate whatever they want and still get the placements. Hope Tanith and Ben will be back soon and back on the top of the field.

Regarding Tanith/Ben, it talks about a medical reason. Maybe the same one K/N got?

And about neither of Linichuk's teams getting on the Worlds podium, the key phrase you used is if there are no politics. I don't think the Linichuk politiking is working for Tanith/Ben, but it sure is working for Domnina/Shabalin, who manages to place over cleaner teams with more interesting choreography (I'm talking about both D/W and F/S here) with slow and sloppy skating, just imagine what they can do if they are slightly cleaner. I think although they won't place first, they're a lock for the podium judging by the score inflation.

Regarding B/A and D/S's programs this year, I think they will both do better if they swapped programs. I actually ilke B/A's program this year. They aren't exactly dramatic skaters by nature IMO, but they can pull off dramatic programs fine, like this one and last year's Chopin. I do like their Chopin FD more though.

I think Linichuk's strategy is "dramatic = good scores", but it doesn't fit B/A or D/S IMO. Especially in choosing Spartacus for D/S, the music cut repeat the main theme for a gazillion times, so it's more annoyingly loud and bombastic than dramatic.

Thank you for that information! No good news though. I already saw Tanith pat Ben's back at the warm up.

What I meant was "Russian"politiking, not Linichuk's. Her programs were sloppy and very disconnected, horrible, horrible. I would place D/W 2nd,F/S3rd, Dom/Sch last.

Thanks for clearing that up. That would explain why they were so tentative yesterday, in addition to the nervousness.

:frown:I hope the back pain is just temporary and isn't from a serious injury.

I wish Judy Bloomberg were technical specialist, she was very strict and fair . She would not let Dom/Sch overmarked in tech.scores. She did great job at CoR.

Whatever the poliking is, D/S sure are getting a lot of it.

I agree with your placements. I would have a wide margin between DelSchoe and D/W (their current scores are fine I think), F/S 2 points after D/W and Dom/Shab 1 to 2 point after F/S.

LOVE LOVE Del/Scho's FD. Anyone who hates Pink Floyd and "Great Gig" has no taste in music. :p

well, Dom/Shabalin did themselves in at CoR by messing up their combo spin big time.

If we are going to talk about 'politiking', why is the Canadian tech specialist Marie Bowness being sent to so many competitions these past two seasons? Maybe she's holding Dom/Shab up in the tech mark so those euro judges will be in favor of giving a podium finish for V/M come 2010 in Vancouver?

Belbin, Agosto withdraw from GP Final

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081213&content_id=57505&vkey=ice_pressrelease

Five-time U.S. ice dancing champions Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto have withdrawn from the 2008 ISU Grand Prix Final in Goyang City, Republic Korea, citing injury.

Agosto is suffering from pain in his back, which has caused numbness in his right leg. "My back started hurting in practice, and it just kept getting progressively worse each time I tried to do something," Agosto said.

I am so frustrating with Domnina-Shabalin scores. Are all judges on drugs there in Korea?
