Dance skaters - together or split

Just out of curiosity, I compiled the names of the USA National Dance skaters from 2006 and 2007 and searched the USFSA athlete database to see how many came up.

For the couples who yielded a result in the database, I placed "together" next to their names (assuming that if they are still listed with USFSA, they are still dancing together). The ones I knew (from reading GS) that split, I placed "split" next to their names. The rest, I placed "0 matches" next to their names.

If I place the "0 matches" in with the splits, our percentages are
6 out of 20 or 30% together
14 out of 20 or 60% split

The percentage of "together" is actually surprisingly high to me. Anyone know how the USA compares with other countries who have more than just a few dance skaters competing at their nationals?

Kevin O'Keefe is now skating for Canada with Siobhan Karam.

Morgan Matthews teamed up with Leif Gislason and they had planned to skate for Canada, but the US was unwilling to release Morgan. They are now planning to skate for Azerbaijan (where they can be given citizenship by decree), but nothing official has been announced as yet.

Caitlin Mallory skated briefly with Maxim Zavozin, but they split and Max is now skating with Nora Hoffmann and they plan to skate for Hungary.

Joel Dear is now skating with Maury Gustafson (who used to skate with Logan Giulietti-Smith [now skating with Lynn Kriengkrairuit])

Loren Galler-Rabinowitz had intended to skate for Israel with Attila Elek (former partner of Nora Hoffmann) but his injury and the refusal of Israel to allow her to continue with her Harvard education put an end to that potential pairing.

Mimi Whetstone and Chris Obzansky are still together and will skate as Seniors at US Nationals 2008.

Todd Gilles is now skating with Jane Summersett and they will skate as Seniors at US Nationals 2008.

I don't know why Loren G-R didn't try to convince O'Mearer to return to competitive skating. Both of them know the downbeat from the upbeat which most European dancers do not.

Shaking the booty is not real Latin Dancing which is downbeat and knees should show it. It's not the upbeat Polka with a hollywood shake.

Assumed split (have not competed recently):

Stephanie Ellis / Ian RossFrye

Ellis/Ross-Frye still together and skated in a show over the summer.

Dmitry Ponomarev is rumored to be skating with a girl from France.

Thanks for the Ellis/Ross-Frye update, Cocomo.

Only 5 out of the 16 Senior teams from 2007 Canadians are competing at 2008 Canadians:
Tessa Virtue / Scott Moir (2nd)
Kaitlyn Weaver / Andrew Poje (3rd)
Allie Hann-McCurdy / Michael Coreno (8th)
Mylene Lamoureux / Michael Mee (9th)
Megan Wilson / Garett Goodman (15th)

Marie-France Dubreuil / Patrice Lauzon (1st) are not competing this year;
Chantal Lefebvre / Arseniy Markov (5th) have retired.

7 senior teams split after 2007 Canadians and formed 6 new teams as follows (qualified for 2008 Canadians):
Lauren Senft (4th) / Augie Hill (USA)
Siobhan Karam (6th) / Kevin O'Keefe (USA)
Mylene Girard / Liam Dougherty (7th)
Andrea Chong (10th) / Guillaume Gfeller
Bethany Puttkemery (14th) / Kevin Gallagher (11th)
Christina Bourgeois / Jonathan Pelletier (13th)

yes there is a lot of chaging partners going on in pairs and dance. I think that it is difficult for two adult (or almost adult) people of opposite sexes to work cloesely all the time year in and year out and not let relationships and stuff get in the way. i think that is the reason why china has been the big force in pairs lately and russia for dance. China with it's communist lifestyle pairs up a girl and boy at a yong age. The coaches argange it, the way the soviet coaches did. The skaters are expected to worl together all the time. They are not allowed to date, stay up late, or have really any life outside of the skating rink. The same thing went on in russia up until the fall of the soviet union. and the result? thier pair teams were pretty much unbeatable. maybe that with a few exceptions, this is the rule for a succesful pair or dance team?

Have they officially split though? According to their website, they are just "taking a break."

Yeah, I know that in essance, they are the same, but still....

Jamie is at Cornell. Ryan is coaching and doing interior decorating in Arizona. Their website does say a break but I'm pretty sure it's a split. The last interviews that I read from either them didn't indicate that they were considering a return.

I would love to see Ryan back on the ice again!! I saw a program that he did in a club show with Emile Nussear and they made a great team.
