Dancing With The Stars

I'm still not exactly sure who Ian (they all say 'Eye-ann' - shouldn't it be 'Ee-ann'?) is, I guess he was on some kind of TV show I did not see (there are many....).
I go dancing a lot myself, and take lessons, so I recognize a lot of the things he's doing, or attempting to do, and I can tell he's really trying and paying attention.
He's taking this 'competition' (as scripted and predetermined as it may be) seriously, for most of the others it seems to be just a game, yet another way to get your mug on TV and make some money.
They kept saying how 'harsh' the judges were this week, I actually thought they were too nice to the contestants.
There was a bunch of '5's and '6's where I would have given them a '3' or '4' max.....
The Russian judge gives a 4.6.....:)

(they all say 'Eye-ann' - shouldn't it be 'Ee-ann'?)

Well shouldn't Sean be "seen." It is dialect dictating as much as preference. Michelle being "M ee shell" or "M ih shell." I think that depends on what they want.*shrugs* Names are like that.

As far as his dancing you would be a better judge than I, I wonder if that "not sure" is saying he really isn't into it and his wonderful partner:love: is keeping him "looking as though" he is still somewhat into it???? Carrying his "weight." - no pun intended.

Funny Russian judge comment:laugh: :agree: good one.

julietvalcouer, what a nice post to read:agree:

'Sean' is pronounced 'Shahn' or 'Shawn' because it's one of the the celtic versions of John, and if you've ever looked at Irish or Scottish (Gaelic) words, you'll know that their concept of spelling is entirely different from that of the germanic/latin version dominant in most of the western world.
Case in point: Julianne Houghs' last name is apparently pronounced 'Hoff', even though many other English words with that ending (which in itself is a sort of celtic 'remnant') are pronounced '-ow' or ''-owe', as in 'bough'.
English is not a particularly 'logical' language when it comes to the relationship of how something is spelled vs. how it's pronounced.......

'Sean' is pronounced ...

Believe me Wolffy, you don't need to tell me how and why my name is pronounced the way it is. ;) Being called "seen buzzard" growing up I found out that information LONG LONG ago.

My point is the "holder of the name" can pronounce it anyway they wish to. EOS.

I had a girlfriend named Jenifer, went by Jenny, but spelled it Jenni. I called her Jenn "ih.";)

It's ok that Leza got booted didn't care much for her.
John, Billy or Heather should be next in line.
I was real impressd with Layla at first but she's seem to slip a little.
Apolo is better than I thought he would be.
Ian (use to be on 90210) he's doing great.
Joey never heard of him until the show and he's ok also.

*snort* Last week the judges said something about Ian (it's a personal preference issue of pronuncation) having a 'second career' and I was like "Wait, he has a first career?" *rimshot*

I dance with competition as my primary aim (I do social, too, but my lessons are centerted around the competitive sylabus) so I'm watching them for things I know. I'm also listening to Len the most as what he says tend to often line up with what I'm seeing, and as he's a certified dancesport judge. It's also cracking me up that I'm recognizing some of the dancers now, having never followed DWTS before, from watching Ohio Star Ball on PBS (aka "America's Ballroom Challenge"). Tony and Elena, for example. And hm, my one instructor and his new partner will be competing in the same division as Maks, assuming Maks finds a partner again (pro Latin.)

OK, anybody who just watched Juli and Apolo, have you been able to close your mouth yet. WOW!. That was good and so wonderful to watch. What a great performance. Now I just wished I recorded that or will have to watch the recap, because I had such a hard time even noticing Apolo. I know I say it a lot, but in this case it fits Perrrrrrrfect, ger baby ger ger.Austin Powers accent

eta, now that I think about it that seems a little over the top for something that fits the "Family TV" ambience.???? "Nature of the dance?" Or was that outfit a little over the top?

I still can't believe Carrie Ann called Clyde the worst dancer. I'd put it at a tie between Clyde and Billy Ray at this point. BRC doesn't even have to deal with the height difference. At this point, I just don't think it's in Clyde's nature to show intensity in his dancing, but I think there is an awkward grace to his dancing where as BRC is just awkward. JMHO.

Apolo was wonderful tonight. Laila's back. Enjoyed John's routine - it was fun without being as schlocky as Springer and George Hamilton. Joey & Ian were good, too. I still don't get the wow's over Heather.

Akward Grace? I think it's just two left feet. Clyde looks like a broom stick. He has no business being on the dance floor. Has to go....

Do you think that was a planned fall last night?? I loved that Carrie Ann marked her down for it.

Billy Ray just can't dance, poor baby!!

Dancing with the stars.............

When this competition began, I felt Billy was the worse "dancer" and should be eliminated. He is really a klutz, however, he does try. After the second night of competition, I felt Clyde was the one to be eliminated. I guess Clyde is being saved by some popularity issue because he really is awful. I was thrilled to hear Carrie state that he is the worse dancer in the competition. Thank you, Carrie. Clyde is horrible and I don't believe it's to do with his height. He stinks. He sleep walks through the routines and I honestly feel compassion for his partner who has to deal with him. I would love to see him go. Should have been eliminated after the second show.

After Clyde, hopefully we can get rid of Billy. He tries but he is NOT an acceptable dancer.

Heather was dancing well in the first few dances but now seems to be losing ground. The dancers I like best are Apollo, Leila, Joey and even Ian.

Apollo was great last night and clearly the winner of the night. At last, I agree with the judges.

time is ticking I hope;
Clyde
Billy
Heather
:agree:

I don't think that Fall was planned by Heather.

I don't think Billy really wants to be there. His trying is just to save face, but his heart "ain't in it."

Clyde does stink, and he is clueless about it.

I don't think he's clueless. I think he's apathetic.
Time for him to go.

Next should be Billy Ray, because I'm tired of seeing Karina crying. It's a job girl! Not every celebrity partner will be able to dance like Mario Lopez. It's your job as a professional teacher to shelve your desire to dance your butt off and instead to make your partner look good. Ask Cheryl. Or better yet, talk to Tony Dovolani. He knows how lucky he was to have Stacy Keibler his first season on the show. But he understands for every Stacy there is a Sara and a Leeza, so take it down a notch and work with them.

Missed most of last nights show (fell asleep) only got to see Apollo and the clutz Billy.

You saw the best and 2nd worst IMO. Don't know about your affiliate, but in the NYC tri-state area, they've been showing a recap show before the results show. Sheesh - I'm really tired of them milking ever last bit of air time for ratings. A results show should only be 30 minutes. Why is the competitive portion still 90 minutes when there are fewer dancers still performing just one routine? I've been Ti'voing to get through it faster - same with American Idol which has wayyyyy toooo many commercials. Sorry for the rant.

Well, haven't watched the elimination yet, though I taped it, but someone brought in a tape of Apolo and Julianne's samba to the studio. We ended up standing around in a group watching and marvelling. Seriously, there were a couple professional dancers and a bunch of serious students watching him going "Nice line", "Look at his hip action", "What a great routine"...He was great. (Shallow note--loved her dress, HATED her hair.)

That tells a lot to me about how you feel for artificial limbs. hmmm. Maybe that was not your intention but that's how I read it. I have artificial knees.

Finally got a chance to watch it last night. How can we get to Apollo Ono and tell him to switch to figure skating?
