Delobel Schoenfelder retiring this year? | Golden Skate

Delobel Schoenfelder retiring this year?

I think they should end thier career on a high note. They have waited so long for this and finally getting it should make skating complete for them.

I'm not sure they will. I think they've had a long career, and would like to end it on a high note, but I know they would also like an olympic medal, since in 2006 their bronze one was stolen from them, and they are also fighters, so I'm not sure they're just going to want one world medal.

I think they definately should retire. They are probably two of the oldest dancers competing now.
Go out on a high .They will make plenty of money on the french tours .A/P are still doing well .
The olympic medals are waiting I'm afraid for Russians and canadians .D/L Denkova/Staviski and Delobel/Shoenfelder should all be retired now.I hope there will be no comebacks for the olympics in 2010 as has happened in the past as there's never a happy ending. Not in the dance anyway .T/D D/V FP/M know all too well.Dance has changed and it's the youngsters brought up with COP to take over.

As I said in another thread. I think they should retire.

They've had a lengthy career and this is the best reward for them. And they are indeed the oldest team on elite dance right now. Even though they won here, given their history they won't be favorites next year. We know that's gonna be a Dom/Shab vs Virt/Moir battle. Tanith & Ben are now the overdue veterans and lots of young teams keep improving at a mega speed (Kho/Nov, Davis/White, Pech/Bourz, etc). It's better to go out on top.

And speaking of comebacks, who do you think will try one at Vancouver? I see that the names of Grushina/Goncharov are still on the ISU ranking, does that mean something?

It seems like so far, the only ones talking of it are the media and fans, NOT D/S at all. Let them do what they want. The fact that this is their first World's medal ever doesn't detract from the fact that they should have had probably at least 2 before now. How come everyone isn't talking about "Belbin and Agosto should retire now"??

because Tanith is only 23??? Isabelle on the other hand is 29. I love delobel and schoenfelder though, and I would be crushed if they went out after this year, but I think ice dancing is the least clear cut sport and there's this timing issue so I don't know if they're going to be pressured into retiring or what, but I hope they stay. I sure hope they stay. I just saw the gala broadcast and according to Nicky and Chris, isabelle and olivier said they're going to think long and hard about it....Yeah, maybe we're the only ones talking about it now, but I'm sure it's on their minds now too.

oh calm down, dear. no one knows if they are yet, and something tells me they won't because I know both of them really wanted to compete at the Olympics adn win a medal there too. But what sucks about ice dancing is there's this sense of predetermination, you know for instance, all this talk about virtue and moir being primted to become the next Olympic champions, and Belbin and Agosto being unable to do as well in recent months....I don't know, I sure hope the judges are not going to turn on Isa and Oli like they did on Belbin and Agosto now that they've won a worlds championsihp. I just hate this talk of who's turn it is next, because with all that talk of peking order and what not, is ice dance truly a fair sport? I just created this thread in hopes that Isa and Oli would weigh all of this and act accordingly--because as much as I would die if they stopped competing, my heart would break just as much if they had to end their career on a low note.... but I still believe in them. If they continue, I'll pray every day that they'll win a medal (pref. gold) in vancouver.

honestly - win, lose, last, fisrt, but not 4th....! i don't care - if i were them i wouldn't care - do it for fun almost

and so if they continue and get 3rd at worlds....no one died
peak - retiring with "class" and act professionaly pffft

i'm making an iron on shirt with a podium pic of them hahaha
wear it to school tomorrow!

In normal life, people retire and have prepared for it. Some people can not entertain the thought of retirement - they have nothing else.

Skaters know when to retire and no non skater should suggest they retire.

However, one can predict if one sees something in their skating. I think there will be a number of skaters -singles, pairs and dance after this coming Olys.

Something funny happened as shown on Swedish Television - they interviewed some people from the audience during the interval and asked each one what was their favorite moment of the competitions - a pretty brunette answered that it was the ice dance! Oh, the interviewer said, and why is that?

Well, the girl said, my twin sister won the competition, that's why!! The interviewer almost didn't believe her but then she produced a picture of Isabel and Olivier and held it up to her face and voilà! There was no mistaking she's Isabel's identical twin alright (sans the performance makeup)! I had no idea Isabel had a twin sister - and one who looks just like her at that - that was really fun to see! :)

Aw ... that's a great story. ;) I am thrilled that D&S won gold. For years I felt that they were undermarked, and I had hoped they would be on the podium. :)

In an interview they broadcasted on Eurosport they said they were looking forward to 2010! And they didn't seem at all like they wanted to retire.
I'd be so sad if they did!

Hmm so they are staying till 2010 I think its a mistake I don't see them on top of the podium again, the battle lines are now drawn for the next two years V&M versus Domnina.
