Delobel Schoenfelder retiring this year?

I know sport isn't always about winning but once you've tasted the top its hard to continue to compete if you don't acheive it again, I mean they are a fantastic team and it took them a long time time to get to where they are now, so why not retire on top.

Even if they can't win a gold or silver at the Olympics, and you never know, they might, they could still win a bronze. Since they haven't won any Olympic medal yet they'd probably be happy to get a bronze.

Hmm so they are staying till 2010 I think its a mistake I don't see them on top of the podium again, the battle lines are now drawn for the next two years V&M versus Domnina.

See, this is the kind of talk I was talking about. How do you know that for certain? Please don't make it sound like it's all pre-determined for the next few years. Everyone thought the russians were going to win a medal last year, but did they? And who knows what kind of hurdles Tessa and Scott will run into, but the judges love them for sure, I have to give it that.

it's because V/M are like the new torvil and dean?!
geez don't you know?!

;)

Olivier has stated many times this year he wants to retire.
What their decision is so far is to let the French tour finish so that they can think of things to do or not.
So we'll know in about a month if they're staying or not.

I'd rather see them retire. They've been so many times hosed by the judges that it's going to happen again. They paid the olympic gold of M&G all their careers and medals were stolen from them so many times I can't count, by skaters who were not even worth a top ten finish (GrushGons) or overrated skaters.
Same applies to DenStav. POLITIKS.
Add to that they are getting old and the finesse they used to have has been gone all year long. Was that because of the tension between them since before the Bompard ? Who knows. But they can't do the stuffs they were doing in their sleep last year.

i agree on grushina/goncharov
i say this year was their best overall though

i jsut saw their tour schedule....yeah non stop everyday new city - they will hate it hahaha

*still praying for them to stay 09!*

last time I checked this is 2008 and the Olympics are in 2010....alot can happen and/or change in the next two years!!

DelShoes are 29 and 30, and Olivier has a baby son. I can understand it if he wants to retire.

I can see how they may want to "go out on top" and who could blame them. They have never been particular favorites of mine so, no disrespect intended, I wouldn't mind seeing them bow out.

They're my favorite ice dancers. If they still have fun on the ice, I hope to see them in 2010.

Poor Olivier looked absolutely shattered after the freedance, he had a couple of stumbles during the program, even Isabelle looked concerned after, and said something to him, I think he nodded his head okay, but to me he didn't look well. Even back stage when they were pictured waiting for results, I thought my goodness; that man looks old! I hope they do retire, going out on top could be the best thing they do for themselves and their pro career. Good luck to them.

I don't think he had stumbles. There was one part during the ciruclar steps when he seemed to lose balance and overextended his body, but other than that I think everything went pretty well. He does look older than Scott Moir, but that's not saying much, lol. I think it's his facial hair. I hope they continue, but only if they truly desire to. I do believe that Wch was the best they've skated theri fd program, but I also think there wasn't as much freedom/abadon as in previous performances of it because they have made so many changes and it just felt more new and not as natural as before.

i wouldn't have called that a stumble either.

and my comment on olivier's age: neatly groomed at masters versus scruffy "new zealander" plantation worker aka George Baines at worlds

in my opinion, this "scruff" emphasized the character he portrayed despite age-assumptions.
