Denis Ten

Mr. Ten might be the most unlucky skater ever. I feel bad for him. Best wishes so he will rock in the second half of the season.

"... I'm not sure if I can go to my second Grand Prix (Trophée Eric Bompard)."

Source: today's IN recap of the Skate America FS, reported by Lynn Rutherford
http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2015/10/25/155505794/ (Oct 25)

Don't know whether this quote already has been mentioned on elsewhere on GS??

A longer excerpt:

"Unfortunately, I just couldn't skate today," Ten said. "I was hoping during the competition I would forget my health issues. I have skated numerous times with bad injuries and would go on adrenaline, but it didn't help today. I'm not sure if I can go to my second Grand Prix (Trophée Eric Bompard)."

The skater added that while he was unsure whether he would return to El Segundo, California, where he trains under Frank Carroll, or return home to Kazakhstan. Either way, he vowed to consult a medical specialist.

"I have four different doctors in California; I see doctors every day," he said. "I think what I really need, is not to force any exercise. I may need to rest."

I don't understand why Denis didn't just withdraw. These skaters work so hard and I hate to see them not have a performance that they aren't proud of.

It's October. Still way early in the season. And Denis usually doesn't hit his stride until the spring - which is what should happen. I hope that he recovery fully and comes back stronger! :)

It isn't simple a tango. It is a mass with tango rhytms. However, we have not seen this program as it was conceived.

You are right. We have yet to see him perform this program well. Until then, I wish him a quick and full recovery. Hang in there, Denis :cheer2:

what Denis did in that insta, is 4T-3T, 4S, and a loop type jump dont know how many rev or if he landed, possibly a 4loop.
Listen to his blade sound, textbook blade sound for these 3 type of jumps.

I just watched Denis performing at the NRW.
His programs are beyond my expectation. (I held onto my opinions on his programs since his performances at the SA were too rough)

I love his SP. I think it is almost done program-wise, needs the jumps to be perfect. Caruso was only a beginning of his journey to the grand vocal music. He skates to Kyrie of Misa Tango brilliantly in the SP. He is not afraid of music. He picks the magnificent piece of music and interprets like any normal songs while not being overwhelmed by it at all. I am carried away by his very lofty and thorough interpretation.

LP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ijJbp9jPdY
The LP is still in the making, IMO. To the iconic Sanctus of Misa Tango, there are brilliant choreographic moments, but some may need a re-arrangement. I love the vigorous flow from a 3Lz to a 3R to a 2A to a creative entry(twizzle) to a camel-sit combination spin. Final stsq to the climax "santo, santo, sato,,," is breathtakingly good! But, I am not sure the sit spin fits in the music. The entry to the 4T(fell and not able to add a 3T) and the first 3A is too bare. Once it is done, however, I assure it will be full of surprises. I am ecstatic for the two new programs.

Thanks a lot, MIM - both for the videos/links and for your impressions. I have to say, although Denis made mistakes, I am still a bit perplexed about his PCS in both programs. Only a little higher than Jorik Hendrickx. I understand that, unlike other top skaters, Denis is not given very high PCS in the first half of the season even if he skates decently because all judges know that he usually doesn't perform well at this time. Also, obviously Hendrickx's skates were cleaner, but still... Has he become so much better from the previous seasons? I guess I have to look for videos of his performances to see for myself.

Denis is where he was last season. Last year he received almost same PCS as one he got this year at the Golden Spin of Zagreb. It is a good sign of moving forward to the 4CC and WC as the TR PE CH IN tends to increase as the season goes.

I am glad Denis put together a beautiful clean program right away though.. I don't get such a low score at the NRW, either. But I saw the beauty in the program and he gets rewarded for it a week later in Zagreb.:)
