Denis Ten

Step sequences were as good as before(both SP and LP but I am disappointed by how empty his LP was until the step sequence. Also I'm not a fan of the cut on his SP. I am not really liking this move to Morozov, not a fan of Frank either but at least he doesn't choreograph his pupils programs and I feel he is a better coach overall.

Obviously Denis left for a reason, and now he's already won a silver in his first competition after being injured (again). I haven't seen too much success from Frank's students lately, have you? And just because he has been a good coach in the past doesn't mean he is the coach Denis wants or needs now. It's his call and nobody else knows his situation. Personally, I never was a fan of Denis's programs with Lori except perhaps the Silk Road FS, but I already love his new ones, and I'm sure he will add complexity if and when his health allows.

It is true that Denis won silver at the 2013 WC, bronze at the 2014 OG, gold at the 2015 4CC, Bronze at 2015 WC with Lori and Frank. I adore Lori's choreography for him; the artist, Caruso, silkroad, Misa tango... they were versatile, innovative, and very deep. His programs are never superficial, always on point, seeking the essence of the music. He is a thinker and performer. And Lori and Frank helped him be who he is now. When I saw him replace Misa Tango with R&J for the LP at the last WC, I felt maybe it could be a sign for them to take a break. They tried, throve, and now is time to restart!(I think Lori and Denis will work together again in thee future)

Now, Denis departed for his new journey. His new programs are different from his past works including the ironically twisted R&J for his Sp. His LP potentially includes (3)quads and (2) 3axels- this might explain a rather empty choreography in the first half. It is fortunate for me to see his programs in making, whereas his programs were never in a shape to appreciate at this point of a season in the past. Also, having a coach/choreographer can be beneficial for Denis this time around; he can have more voice in choreographing a program and phasing his technical elements over the course of season. I enjoy his new journey and cheer for new competitive fire in him. Go Denis!
 
I am optimistic about this coaching change. Didn't Shizuka Arakawa move to Morozov at around the same time in the 2006 Olympic cycle? I'm not saying it will be the same situation, but I think a new set of eye (especially choreographically) can be really great for Denis.
 
that's nice to see. i wish people understood that switching coaches doesn't mean war :) while growing up, i feel it's important to have one long-term coach to make sure your development is well planned but at a world class level, it's important to seek various advice and opinions, as well as different training environments... if Morozov can help denis the way he has for others, that's great for him.

Saw that Denis withdrew after the SP in Zagreb.....

Concerned that his injury resurfaced.....and thinking it must have been difficult to make the decision with Morosov at the GPF....

Has anyone seen any news?

tenis_den: So... Many people asked me what are these three musketeers doing together in Kazakhstan?
- They are here to help Figure Skating in my country. As I said 1xx times previously, the shows in Kazakhstan were charitable, thanks to our sponsors: city administration of Almaty, @kaspibank and EXPO-2017. That was my goal from the very beginning to create a project that will leave something for our young generation afterwards. We started by leaving unforgettable impressions after 3 successful ice shows. There our young skaters not only had a chance to experience one of the brightest ice shows but also to meet and to talk to their Idols during the show. Nowadays they are learning skating technique by legendary Alexei Yagudin and amazing Brian Joubert. This seminar was organized and sponsored by a public foundation established by myself last year and its task is to create a training program for young skaters and their coaches for the whole year. This is a long-term project and there will be many more events to develop our beautiful sport in Kazakhstan throughout the year.
Thank you to everyone who attended my shows. You've made a great input into Kazakhstani sport and also, to those who don't know - by attending the show in Astana you made it possible to help a boy whose name is Zhakypbai Nursat, he is only 6 years old but already has cancer (brain-tumor 4th stage). Because of you he will be sent to Germany for an urgent surgery.
