Denis Ten

I can't believe this. I just can't. I've found out from Javier Fernandez Twitter.
How...
I can't believe this.

I saw him skate live twice and both times created vivid memories. The first time in the GP in Paris in 2016. The last couple of years had been a struggle, but his skating still impressed me a lot. The exhibition just blew me away - probably the best hiphop on ice ever.

I don't like watching videos with sound at work, but I'll definitely have to watch this later. The footwork .

In Canada there’s a good chance this would be second degree murder. Killing someone in the course of committing a robbery is, to me, more than manslaughter.

In the USA I think it could be 1st degree murder under "Felony Murder" - which is killing someone in the commission of another felony.

What a terrible tragedy, it is very upsetting.

Is it a robbery if they were trying to steal the mirrors while he wasn't there, he simply caught them doing it?

Unlikely they will be charged with murder. It's "Causing grievous bodily harm with intent, leading to death by carelessness", Part 3 of Article 103 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, from 5 to 10 years in prison.

I think it's rather 192.3 - robbery with causing a severe injury that unintentionally resulted in the death of the victim, 7 to 12 years of imprisonment. http://online.zakon.kz/Document/?doc_id=31575252#pos=2313;-18

I think so, unless they tried to run away and were somehow stopped by Denis.

I know 4CC 2015 performance was better (and I was happy he could give back to the Korean audience that meant much to him), but I was really impressed and pleasantly surprised for him at Worlds that year. Most of the time Denis had about 1 (really) good competition a season, and admittedly I did not have high expectation after 4CC. But he really held himself together and won the free skate that night! It was then I started hoping he could turn the pattern around, but then injuries happened and the Olympics was the ultimate heart break then. Now this :(

I'm a lurker but decided to register after hearing the news because I need to vent.

I just can't process what happened. He and his friends were posting instagram stories before it happened, after watching the stories I started to clean my room, went to twitter to check something and read the news. I was just watching the guy interacting with his friends and suddenly he is gone.

Just saw the news on Facebook, couldn't believe it was true, only to come here and find that Denis has indeed passed away. Don't even know what to say... not that I have to say anything, but it feels like I should, but... what is there to say during a time like this? His passing just feels so utterly pointless, especially in how it happened. I, a mere fan, find it extremely difficult to go on with my day and do the things I have to do, I cannot imagine what his family is going through.

For now, I still cannot process this piece of news, it still feels like an alternate reality or a bad dream or someone's sick idea of a joke, it seems insane that this is reality, it's utterly incomprehensible. Nevertheless... I feel grateful that I got to see and experience the light and joy that was ('was'... that's just horrible to actually type out) Denis Ten and his skating, even from a computer screen. He gave a lot of happiness not only to those closest to him, but to everyone around the world. I wish everyone was like that. He was taken, no, ripped away from us far too soon, but in his short life he managed to do so much and spread positivity all around him. Thank you, Denis.

Denis Ten was truly a skater that embodied the technical and artistic aspects of figure skating. He has had a good number of memorable skates, but this one has resonated with me the most.

2014 Trophée Eric Bompard SP ("Caruso") -

It isn't that easy to skate to opera music, though Denis' Caruso SP was a display of absolute power, grace, skill, and emotion.

He will be remembered dearly by his fans. God bless his family and friends!!

GOD BLESS DENIS TEN!!

i am terribly upset...

i woke up to go to work and that's the first thing I read this morning.

I am crying like a baby. I loved Denis but that's beyond the point. These people killed way much more than a figure skater, they killed the symbol of Kazahkstan potential success in sport. Denis did so much for his country and was probably give back even more after his career.

I am completely devastated. I am speechless.... upset.

I don't have much to say. I did not know a lot about this skater or his skating (although I have seen his Sochi performances before), but it is still very shocking news. He did not need to go so young. What a world we live in.

What kind of creatures are we? Killing an innocent man for a mirror? I cannot understand this. I just cannot. Rest in peace, Denis. All the strength in the world to family, friends, everyone who is in pain over those tragic news!

I think the other memory I will have about Denis is his two skating shows, Denis Ten and friends. The commitment Denis had to producing two high-caliber shows, especially while still competing was amazing.

Denis’ show could go toe to toe with any skating show worldwide. How lucky for the people in Kazakhstan!

This is tragic. Just tragic. Huge loss for his family and friends and the skating world as a whole. So young and to die so senselessly.

I think all of us at GS will need a massive group hug.
