Denis Ten

Just saw it. How awful. I'm so so sad for him, his family and friends. Tears in my eyes.

So sad! Such a tragedy. Denis was a beautiful skater and an Olympic bronze medalist. Many think he also should have won Worlds in, I think 2013. He will be greatly missed.

I’m in shock. Beyond comprehending this. Such horrible news to wake up to. I’m so burnt out on tragedy.

Denis Ten had a Grand Prix assignment at Rostelecom Cup, Russia. Dear fans, please bring banners for Denis- just don't make them sad- please celebrate his life and achievements with messages of love and support. Please write Thank You Denis! We will always remember you! There will be a lot of athletes who will compete at that event- those who were his friends, those who knew him and loved him. Fill arena with love messages, not grieving ones for athletes to celebrate his life in sport by great skates in his memory.

Many Japanese skaters are tweeting about their love for Denis, but I am literally too sad to translate those now (and I might not be able to do it forever). Hope other Japanese speakers will help us.

I will copy this message I wrote in Denis Fan Fest thread for everyone to read.

@tenis_den and I met in 2006 at a JGP in The Hague, Netherlands where we instantly bonded over the weird coincidence that we shared the same surname.
Early in our careers the skating community would be confused as to whether or not we were actually related or even at times, the same person, which for me, was an honor.
You've left your mark in this world, in all of our hearts. Your kindness and your talent will never be forgotten. You will be missed dearly. Til we meet again, brother.

Those little moments. Even sharing the same surname is such a precious thing now.

Rest in Peace Denis, I always had a soft spot for you and your gorgeous skating and artistry! Horrible news and such a senseless tragedy.

I can't believe we lost the wonderful skater, Denis Ten.
We trained together in Toronto, some times talked about skating, had a fun time on the ice, and he taught me so much.
I pray that you rest in peace.

It must be a mistake, unbelievable, I don't want to believe it -this sudden passing pains the heart. What comes to mind is cheerful, kind smile. He'd always take photos and send them .....I really can't believe it, so sad, from the bottom of my heart I pray for your happiness in the next life.

This sudden passing....I don't know what to say...It's too sad... we competed together since we were Juniors, after we became seniors he would still greet me, and was a really kind gentleman. From my heart, I pray for your happiness in the next life. (this is the Japanese verison of Rest in peace)

I really can't find words.
He was kind to everyone, why?
It was all still ahead.
I can't believe it.
Kanako, and many others have tweeted their condolences, but I can't find their tweets now. Many thousands in Japan loved Denis and his skating, and all are shocked and saddened by this news.

I will do this when I come to Cup of Russia this year.

Denis skated to Dimash's version of
S.O.S d'un terrien en détresse...

Here are the lyrics in French..

Dodo l'enfant do

he flew away, like a bird... far from this planet.

(translation)

Why do I live, why do I die?
Why do I live, why do I cry?
Here is the SOS of a man in distress

I've never had both feet upon the ground
I'd rather be a bird
I don't fit into this skin
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
If ever it were beautiful
It's lovelier from above, from above
I've always confused life
with the comic strips
Even wished I could transform
I feel something
That draws me
That draws me
That draws me up

Into the great lotto of the universe
I don't have the right numbers
I don't fit into this skin
I don't want to be a robot
Eating, working, sleeping

Why do I live, why do I die
Why do I live, why do I cry
I think I'm catching waves
From another world
I've never had both feet upon the ground
I'd rather be a bird
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
I'd rather be a bird
Sleep, child, sleep

I cannot process memories right now... it's too soon... will be back later.

And it also reminds me of Gregory Lemarchal who himself sang this song and died at the age of 21 :((((
devastating news, I feel so , so sad

He was more than a skater for me, the fav memory of him is a memory of a sweet, intelligent hard working person & an amazing ambassador for his country...

This is unbelievably sad. What an awful way to lose such a beautiful and talented person. Tragedy happens in life and sometimes it's unavoidable...but this is something that didn't have to happen. It's a senseless act of violence that has cost a young man his life. I think that's what hurts the most.

My heart breaks for his family and friends.

If I have time, I'll do some banner/scarf, something to celebrate Denis memory going to Nepela in September. I think that regardless if he would be there or not, memory of his skating life should travel with fans wherever they will be. But Rostelecom will sure be special this year...

I can't believe this! This is so heartbreaking. He was such talented and inspiring skater and person :(

I think he could have lived if somebody would have tied his leg above the stab wound. I am so sad, I cannot function. Did they catch the thieves? Poor Denis....
