Denis Ten

I think he could have lived if somebody would have tied his leg above the stab wound. I am so sad, I cannot function. Did they catch the thieves? Poor Denis....
I don't think so. He lost a lot of blood in a short period of time, meaning the wound hit a fatal place

Hey, I’m pretty sure I’m one of the only people from Kazakhstan over here so I can say how much Denis meant for all of us in our country.

Everyone knew Denis. I knew him since my early childhood, he even visited the skating rink I trained at once. He was a role model for all of us skaters.

The people here are shocked because HE was that put Kazakhstan on the map. Told OUR story. Made US famous. I don’t even know who will do that now.

People are scared to live in our country. Because he was killed in the middle of a working day, right at the centre of our biggest city... everyone is angry. Everyone is terrified.

This morning, me and my family went to a shopping mall and picked up a magazine with Denis on the cover, and started to remember him. And then, a few mere hours later we find out he is in the hospital, and were praying for him to get well, praying for him to get better.

A few more mere hours later, he is dead. We were all in tears. And are still now. This is a tragedy all of us here will remember and nevertheless forget.

I also wanted to say that the mirror stealing problem is extremely common here; my aunt’s and even my mother’s mirrors were stolen at some point.

But so little of them are as violent as the ones that murdered Denis.

We will always remember him.

He will always be our hero.

Our country will never be the same.

I have no words and feel terribly upset.........I don’t want this to be true....oh my god the Skating world is black today.....

Love you Denis....thanks for everything.....so sorry this happened to you...

Xx

"Denis will remain in my memory and in the memory of the whole figure skating community as a worthy person, a brilliant figure skater, an excellent son and a friend," Mishin said over the phone.

Alexander Majorov:

‏One of my oldest friends from skating world is gone.
I still can’t believe that and I hope it’s not real.
A life taken from a smart, kind and polite person is just not fair.
All my thoughts to his family <3

Gracie Gold

graciegold95 I am absolutely heartbroken today. The world has lost a kind, brilliant, and talented hero. Some of my fondest memories of skating come from the years I trained with Denis. From late night photo shoots to daily locker room shenanigans, Denis always knew how to make you smile. You will be so missed Denis ❤️

I am so devastated, I don't know what to say. Denis' skating spoke to me like almost no other. His artistry and love for the sport and his hardworking demeanor, his grace in representing his nation and his sportsmanship was unrivaled. I hope he may rest in peace knowing that he is a hero to Kazakhstan and that we all appreciated the joy of skating that we got to share with him.

Rest in peace, Denis. We love you.

So incredibly saddened by this. Stay strong. Big huge hugs. [emoji22]

I’m a sad panda today :sad4:

Kind of puts a perspective on things. Be good to yourselves and each other and make the most of your short time on this earth. Denis touched so many with more than just his performances but through very thoughtful actions too. He’s been a friend to many and someone to be admired. He’ll be missed. May his spirit live on. Rest easy Denis.

From what I got based on (google-translated) Russian articles, his femoral artery was probably damaged/severed in the thigh stab wound. Which makes sense considering he lost 3 litres (aka 60% blood loss - way past where hermorrhage class IV begins). Sadly, if that was so probably nothing could've been done - the robbers might as well have cut his throat, the freaking monsters. I hope they get caught and punished too.

I don't believe! You were not just a great athlete, but also a very
erudite, intelligent and well-read person, who we would always want to listen to.

I know you for over 10 years, and all this time you were a ray of warmth, goodness and positive things! You always made jokes. You always supported me. In private talks, we shared out life plans, and yours were so huge that I always was surprised on how one man can do all this!

You were a workaholic! You were a talent! You were a Person, with capital! You were talented in everything! Whatever you were doing, it started to shine with a new light. You were a man of word.

I was always proud I have such a friend. I always looked up to you! And I think it was not just me... You were an idol to millions!

I have a lot more to say, but such a pity that I cannot tell it to you in person... You will be always in our hearts, because there are very few people like you! Why do the heavens take the best ones?

My friend, rest in peace.
