Denis Ten

I can't stop crying... This is so cruel... I didn't know Denis that much, but that doesn't change anything. He was a member of this family, this great figure skating family, a fantastic athlete, a wonderful person and an enrichment to the sport, to the whole world.

R.I.P.

A bright light, so suddenly gone.

My condolences to Denis's family, friends, fans. Such a terrible loss for the skating and human families.

It's always a tragedy when a young person dies but seems twice as bad when it's through violence. Denis was one of our own & much admired & loved within the skating community as well as by his family & personal friends. My condolences to all. So talented, so sad.

I had vowed to not engage in anything skate-related for two months as I need to concentrate on my work. But, for the sake of God, how can I concentrate on work with this news? Who cares about work now?

I'm so so so heartbroken. Keep looking at his pictures and just go blank. It's the second time I hear such a story recent years. Some years ago the champion of "the strongest man" contest in our country was murdered in the exact same circumstances. People were shocked that how can a body builder get killed like that? But, it's not about the strength at all, none of these athletes had it in their minds that they could be attacked viciously. And over what? It's just unbearable to loose such good souls over nothing. I pray for more kindness, more wisdom and more righteousness in human hearts.

Just saw tragic news on Jason Brown's twitter. Denis Ten always one of my favorite skaters. Who could resist that grin? D10 put the map of Kazakhstan on my heart. Now heartbroken. Can not believe this.

Kazakh TV posted a video on Instagram where you can see his car and the missing mirror.....it's just so unreal, to die over something like this. So frustrating, angering.....And then they showed crying people on the streets. It still feels impossible that this really took place in broad daylight on an Almaty street. Over some stupid piece of glass.....

Oh my, this is so shocking, considering he's so young. Just found out from Misha Ge's Instagram.

Deepest condolences to the family

This is heartbreaking. The reaction from the skating world makes it evident how well liked he was—kindness does indeed seem to be the characteristic most skaters use to describe Denis. Many skaters have also posted a black IG photo as a sign of mourning—Miki, Johnny, Misha, just to name a few.

R.I.P., Denis. The memories of your beautiful performances and your kind personality will live on.

only now I'm slowly processing it, as I have hoped so much that these news were just a mistake. Ever since I was 12 years old, we competed together, always ending up in the same competitions - experiencing the highs and lows together. We were friends in training and at the same time opponents who admired each other, who have promoted the sport in their country. I was honored to participate in your show. My good friend, I wish you all the best. May you continue to dance on the ice of heaven.

Just watching his twitter and being like "how is this even real?"
So young, so talented.
Rest in peace, Denis.

now that i've had time to think about what happened to him, i wonder if his attackers knew who he was, that he was an olympic medalist and a pioneer for sports in Kazakhstan, and did it on purpose. or if they had no idea.
