Dennis going to the JGP final mostly hinges on Daniel Samohin scoring under 205.26 points in Spain in winning the silver, which seems pretty unlikely, but.... :slink:

I really like his programs and expression and want him there and hope he does well...

Some updates from Deniss's Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/Deniss-Vasiljevs-119549618231301/

He's back in France to work with his coach Ingrid & there are some new photos & video of him playing tennis for the first time.

His next competition looks like the Tallinn Trophy, 18.11.2015 - 22.11.2015. I didn't expect him to medal at the Mordovian Ornament and it might be tough here against Dmitri Aliev, Nathan Chen, Mikhail Kolyada...but I think he is just getting his feet wet at senior competitions before the bigger ones like Euros.

Deniss's #1 Japanese fan visited him a few weeks ago in Paris, and posted a new interview with him in front of the Eiffel Tower. (She also posted this great interview with him at Junior Worlds earlier this year.) Although I knew he was back in France, it hadn't even occured to me that he might have been in the city last weekend. Or maybe not. Either way, I hope he wasn't too affected by the events.

Here is his SP from today's Tallinn Trophy which earned him a new PB of 78.63. :) It looks like he & Urmanov are getting along very well, judging by the kiss & cry.

So I have the attention span of a flea, which is why I still haven't done a proper OP, but I've added a few videos from his childhood (where his talent was already very apparent!), and links to his website & Facebook...more to come!

Deniss won Latvian Nats this weekend...no great surprise. After he skated, he went straight to Lithuania to skate in a show! I can't even imagine how tired he must have been!

A new article: With the heart on ice

Quite rarely it happens to meet the athletes who talk about their work with such passion as daiļslidotājs Denis Vasilyev. In particular, if the athlete is only 16 years old when the natural processes of the mind over the body to tune into the first enjoyment of freedom of opportunity. However, Dennis stresses that figure skating is his life and without it he would feel lost.

Last season Denis Vasilyev won the silver medal at the European Youth Olympics and won the eighth place in the world junior championship, but in order to continue to make progress, it was necessary to change. Most athlete believes that already last season he had to jump three and a half revolutions Akseli, but there was no one who could teach. Fortunately, the knowledge of the circle took him to the person who recommended the training to try the 1994 Lillehammer Olympic champion Alexei Urmanova lead.

"I like this boy, and I believe that he has a very great potential. I have interesting to work with him and, frankly, I think it is a win," a conversation with Sportacentrs.com recognizes Alexei Urmanovs. "This summer, we did not have so much time to prepare for the season, because Denis had to take exams at school, so quite a long time had to spend without training. Despite this, we have mastered the three and a half revolutions Akseli. He has also improved his skating, but she jumps become higher and more convincing. We have started to work on quadruple jumps, which up to now due to objective reasons were not tried. "

Russian city Sochi Latvian figure skaters now become a second home, but the figure skating event, this is his first house, where he tries to spend as much time. Daily regime at Urmanova is professional. At. 7:20 Dennis wakes up, but in the 8:30 start warming up before 9:15 in the morning down the ice workout. After one and a half hours in a 16-year-old athlete leaves the ice and going to the gym or perform stretching exercises, but then returned home to eat dinner and sleep. Around noon. 15:30 He once again ice rink, where going to a two-hour-long training in the evening, after which the intended stretching like krosiņš. This rhythm Vasilyev is on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, but Friday and Saturday after the morning workout, he is free. On Sunday the whole day devoted to rest - do whatever you want, but on Monday morning once again be on the line.

"He is darbarūķis and ready to squeeze the maximum from ourselves. Our mutual relations, at the moment there is a good understanding," says Urmanovs. "Dennis is a very emotional and sometimes emotions go over the edges. Sensitivity is rather a plus than a minus, but your emotions have to learn to control it. Yes, he is still young, but every man all my life something learn. Therefore, the young athletes regardless of age is today learn to avoid the mistakes that they have made today. "

When Dennis come to Daugavpils, the days spent on textbooks. Well, that helps teachers and support young athletes, but he himself does not expect gifts. One of the favorite subjects - physics - he always had good grades. Like Denis likes history, which provides an opportunity to look at past events and learn something new. In English, he speaks fluent, because he has become the second most important means of communication at the Russian language, which is dominated figure skating environment. Of course, Vasilyev did not forget the Latvian language, but most recognize that speaking Latvian, think in English, so the conversation suddenly jumps to the English tongue. Options speak Latvian unfortunately happens rarely, so the author of these lines promises to young athletes uzzvanīt often. Dennis gladly agrees.

Becoming a student Urmanova Vassiliev figure skating has changed perceptions. One summer, he has learned to jump, which previously unsuccessfully tried to acquire two years. Dennis believes that now has become stronger physically and emotionally. With him a lot of work and he himself getting better understand what to do to become better. Now figure skating is his whole life and Dennis frankly admits: " Before that, the feeling was not so special, but now I am completely infatuated. If you can not climb on the ice and skate, then I do not know how to be able to fulfill their lives. "

"He is an absolute performer, it means that he is very well executed and presented their programs, interpreting the music and those images or ideas that his program has included the coaches or choreographers. It is now, he is one of the most creative figure skaters in the world. Denis is already his skating style, which distinguishes him from all others. It is very important because it attracts both fans and judges, "explained the coach.

This season, in terms of points Dennis has progressed with each competition, having won two runner-up junior "Grand Prix" stages in Riga and Torun. About neiekļūšanu Grand Final he nepārdzīvo, in matches in which six best junior alternately speak together with six of the world of elite athletes, juniors irretrievably remains the last places, but Dennis does not want it. Main starts this season he is yet to come - will be held in mid-February in Lillehammer Winter Youth Olympic Games, but in mid-March in Debrecen expected the world junior championship. Even before the end of January will take place in Bratislava European Championships for adults, but in late March and early April in Boston will take place in the world championship for adults.

By Dennis can be achieved in your career in the next few years? This question philosophically responsible coach - athlete's life on the one hand is long, but on the other hand a short and constantly running out very quickly. "I believe that he has the real possibilities to get the 2018 Olympics and there to try to circumstances, it takes the best possible way. This season Lukoss participate in European and world championships. They will be his first steps in adult sport. Here everything will depend on the work efforts. It will show, how much he will be able to achieve, "adds Urmanovs.

Brilliant!! I was just wondering if he will be there, I am so thrilled! :luv17: Lovely coincidence, exactly where his coach had won his Olympic gold 22 years ago  He just showed he can rise up to the occasion in Euros, I wish him all the best there!!!
