Diana Davis & Gleb Smolkin

Eteri Tutberidze about her daughter Diana Davis:

" She deserves enormous respect. I have something to compare her to. I can’t say I made any special effort in raising her, but she’s a girl with tremendous willpower, character, motivation, goals, and ambitions… Despite the difficulties she’s faced in life.
She could have lived a perfectly peaceful life at home; I would have loved her, and I would have done absolutely anything for her. She wouldn’t have to wander all over the world, travel, and train just to live a quiet life. I’ve offered this to her many times and keep offering it whenever I hear her say: “It hurts here, it hurts there—nothing but injuries.” I tell her, “Diane, maybe it’s enough already?” She says that others have it even worse. And everyone works like that, everyone trains like that, and anyway, Mom, drop it. I sometimes joke: “Okay, that’s it—if anything else starts hurting, I’m taking you home and you’ll live here.” She says: “Mom, I’m already 23; you’re not taking me anywhere.” I say: “I will.”
