Someone uploaded his gala program Pray For The Parents with English translation of the lyrics :thumbsup: Dima always chooses themes that are very personal to him...I think that speaks to an incredible maturity, since so many skaters his age (and even some older) just let their coaches and/or choreographers choose the programs. And it really shows in the connection (or lack thereof) to the music.

I am sure it's terribly hard to be so far away from his family - he could not go home to see them until after the end of the season because it might stir his emotions too much. Well, it won't be long now...
 
Dima was exquisite today :love: I agree it was a very good debut! Pity about zayaking in SP, really, he could be in top5 easily. Anyway, congrats on earning 3 spots! :hap10:
 
All the skaters from the last group have fallen and Dima just did 7 th ? :( : the judges have been severe with him . They were not so severe woth the Japanese mmmmh.
 
The problem with Dima zayaking is not only that that he had invalidated element. He performed in second group, and judges tend to keep higher PCS for later groups... Pretty sure that if he skated that in later group his PCS would have been higher at least slightly. And some of the GOE as well.
 
What a recovery from Dima, and I'd bet he could have placed much higher given everyone else's mistakes had he been in the final flight. Going forward, he has such a beautiful quad toe-triple toe, I have to think it'd be smarter to keep the quad lutz as the solo jump and make the quad toe the combo. That way, even if he were to triple out on the first toe, he'd have a fighting chance of adding another triple on the end and keeping all of his elements eligible for scoring.

Otherwise, he seems to be right on track to be able to compete with with the top men for the next couple of years; his style and artistry will be a welcome contrast to Chen's non-stop jumping.

A very long and interesting interview with Rukavicin. He talks about Dima but also quite a bit about Eteri and her school, and some of his other students. Some of the main points concerning Dima - they're considering working with TAT and/or Averbukh for his new programs. I love Olga Glinka and I don't particularly like this news - especially Averbukh...ugh. But TAT could be interesting. He also says it would be possible for Dima to skate a program with 5 or 6 quads but he wants Dima to keep developing as a balanced skater.

Dima was originally supposed to perform in Averbukh's show in SPB, but he hurt his back - he had to overcome this right before Worlds. And of course there was the leg injury that affected his early season. Rukavin says: But in general, I want to note that he learned to overcome himself. As well as after that leg injury that he had at the beginning of the season, he told us: could you pretend that I do not have anything to hurt? And we really enjoyed it, although we, of course, understood everything.

The whole interview is worth a read! I have tremendous respect for Rukavicin and his way of thinking and of course, for his coaching relationship with Dima.
 
Dima is visiting his hometown of Ukhta for a few days and participated in a ski competition with his brother. Dima won ;)

I feel the same! I love Olga's programs for Dima. All the moves are perfectly choreographed for his expressive and musical interpretation. Found this May 21st Russian article, with Google translate:

Russian choreographer and silver medalist of the 2002 Olympics in ice dancing Ilya Averbukh will start cooperating with the second number of the Russian national team in men's single skating Dmitry Aliyev in the new season. Averbukh himself reported this to TASS during his trip to the Vladimir region.

Averbukh said that the first training session with the 18-year-old skater is scheduled for June 17.

"At the moment, I already have an agreement on working together with [Dmitry] Aliyev, and we have already agreed upon when I arrive, so I will continue to work point-and-point with those in whom I see great opportunities," said the choreographer.

I hope Olga will still do one of his programs for the new season.

Hi, I scrolled through the previous posts and did not see a link to the interview. Could you be kind enough to direct me to the location? I love the interactions and hugs Dima has with his coach and Olga. It definitely shows their close relationship. FYI, Evgeni and Olga remind me of the generic "evil" Russian characters from a Bond movie. :biggrin:

I am a big Dima fan and appreciate your posts. :thumbsup: Just haven't had a chance to read through the latest messages till now. Sorry, I don't speak Russian. It's interesting that there are a ton of people commenting and translating on Alina and Alena Kostornaia's FF, but not that many interaction here :scratch2:. Dima is a beautiful skater, the complete package, and bright future for Russian men's FS. BTW, Alena is my new favorite (young) lady, her soulful and lyrical style is akin to Dima's musical interpretation, IMHO. Can't wait to see both of their programs in the new season.

So yeah, the news about Averbukh was not unexpected...I'm not too thrilled, but at least Olga & Valentin will still do the SP. My main issue with Averbukh is that he seems very particular about the skater performing his choreo exactly as he wants it, without any deviation. And I think a skater as sensitive as Dima, who skates to such personal themes with total conviction, is going to find that much too restrictive. Olga knows him so well and can create something that he can feel 100%.

I guess there is always a chance that the program will be good. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day...
