I see your point and I am not really disagreeing but Gretchen Muller ( whatever the snowboarder's name is) is practically the same shape as Emily. And I would have to consider her an Olympic athlete - based on her placement at the Olys. And Kat Witt... and what is Anton's G-friends name, bigger then Emily but still Mighty fine looking lady IMO!not an olympic athlete... and there'snothing wrong with that...

I'm not saying in this thread either girl is getting ragged on... I'm saying in the past...
ragged is a term my mother uses, Joe... she's 60... I think sean's definition is pretty close to what I use it for. I've always understood it to be a negative term in that people just get off on being overly harsh to someone for no real reason
to call any olympic level athlete overweight or even fat (which both Sarah and Emily have been accused of by 'fans') is absurd.
Many 'fans' of the sport were very negative towards Sarah 'back in the day' when she was skating and catching up to Michelle and Sasha... people saw her as undeserving and so took to petty attacks on the girl.

II also agree that the USFS is aggressively 'pushing' Emily because of name recognition. We're probably doomed to see even more of this because of the absence of Kwan and Cohen. I'm not sure that that will contribute towards the judges 'helping' Emily to win the US Championship, but I hope that is not the case if Emily doesn't skate well.
I'd much rather see the introverted Kimmie win the championship based on her SKATING talent than exuberant Emily win based on her sister's name.
I guess I could have looked at that list of 20 SI athlete cuties, I think that also says a lot for that body type being liked by "the dudes" anyway. The fact is Emily has not been a fine skater this season so far. She hasn't been able to land the 3Z at all in her FS, and in her last FS she got credit for just one triple because all the others were underrotated. I wouldn't call her performances this season amazing, I'd call them shocking.
 Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?Well jumps are only part of skating. Her skating skills, choreography and non-jump elements are among the very best in the world.
Emily's major problem is that although she is a good SP skater, she cannot seem to skate a good FS. All that boundless energy gets dissipated in the FS and she has no juice left 2/3 of the way through. Maybe if she toned down the ta-das and the bouncing around and paced herself, she would have better FS results.
Kimmie should have no problem capturing the US title. It's the World competition that she needs major improvement for. Don't be surprised with an OTP finish for her when you have skaters like Kim, Ando and Asada in the mix.
