Dorthy Hamill article

Dorothy was on the Today show yesterday. She was also on Larry King live last night. On LKL last night, she talked a great deal about her parents. I didn't know that she didn't have such a great childhood. Here's what was interesting. Larry asked her about the last three American Ladies to win the gold medal, Kristy, Tara and Sarah. She said really nice things about Kirisy (which I can't remember right now), then she said that it was Sarah's night. Then she stopped. Larry said what about Tara? and Dorothy said well she had alot of injuries. It was wierd. I just got the impression that she didn't really think too much of Tara. Did anyone else watch this and did anyone else think this as well?

On Larry King, it sounded to me like she was non committal on Tara and Sarah, too. When King asked her about Michelle staying eligible too long, she said something to the effect that she made a lot of money. Dorothy lost hers.

Hamil looks somewhere between 26 and 32. Very pretty.

I did catch the very end of the interview Larry King had with Dorthy last night. I too, thought her comments about Kristi, Sarah and Tara were interesting. As I recall she said that Kristi is a beautiful skater, that Sarah clearly had the best skate that night at the Olympics. I feel she delibrately didn't mention Tara. When Larry asked a second time about Tara, I believe Dorthy said, "well Tara had a lot of injuries".

Her comments regarding Michelle Kwan were also interesting. I believe she said that Michelle changed skating forever.

When asked about her favorite skaters she mentioned Kurt Browning, Brian Boitano and Yuka Sato. I found this interesting but easily explained as they are all edge skaters just like her. The other comment I found interesting was her comment about her own skating that "I wasn't that good". That made me laugh.

Dorthy is still a very humble and shy person. She is so soft spoken and always comes across and being extremely sweet. And....in my opinon, is still a beautiful women.

Well I am glad that I wasn't the only one that felt that way about her comments about Tara. I too laughed when she said that she didn't feel that she was that good. I am not surprised about what she said about Tara or about the people that she thought were good skaters. Brian is a good friend of hers.

Yeah, I saw that!!!!!!!! I noticed that too. She said Kristy was beauiful, etc, it was Sarah's night, but really nothing about Tara. She wasn't injuried when she won!!!

well, by today standards she wasn't that good. I have seen juvenille girls landing the same jumps that she did to win olympic gold. and they have very mature artistry and complicated spins!

I was surprised that Dorothy had such a messed up life. She still seems very nervous and uncomfortble. I feel sorry for her and her daughter who also is suffering from depression.

Interesting. Liz Manley too suffers from depression and she was recently back in Vancouver as spokes person for the Mental Health Association and shared her story about her struggle with depression and challenges she had as a competitor.

Thanks for this article.
