Dutch Figure Skating 2025-26

Chelsea and Sherim didn't get to do the FD at their first Euro's. They were 23rd with 55.42 points.

Roos Harkema was 9th of the Jr women at Crystal Skate in Romania with 121.82 points. Well done Roos.

A lovely feature on the Dutch Skating Website with Daria Danilova. Some pictures of her as a child, of how she felt welcomed in The Nederlands, she has been here since her 15th, she is now 23, how her partnership with Michel grew into someting more (they are a couple now), how her parents like Michel but also how Michel's parents like her, hoe safe she feels with him on and off the ice, hoe proud she is to go to the Olympics representing a country where Figure skating is second rate. She can show kids that you still can do it too, even then! She hasn't forgotten her Russian roots and has close ties with her family there, but feels more Dutch nowadays.

The gist of it is translated, Here's the original feature:

Time for a little catch-up of the skating in my home country.

At the Challenge Cup in Tilburg (not a challenger, a senior B) the only FS competition in my country, and planned rather early this year - a lot of competition between competitions in Europe and the 4CC in China simultaneously - so the usually quite substantial Japanese contingent was (mostly) missing.

In Sr Women Niki Wories was first ( 🥇 ) with 152.35 points.
Jolanda Vos was third (🥉) with 134.70 points.
Saskia Oudejans was fourth with 116.64 points.
Well done ladies! :cheer::cheer::cheer:

In Sr ID Chesea Verhaegh and Sherim van Geffen were 7th with 139.21 points. :laugh3::hap10:

In Jr women Lucca Dijkhuizen was 6th with 138.48 points.
Roos Harkema was 14th with 88.80 points.
Sadly, Angel Delavaque is still injured.
Well done! :hap10::hap10::cheer:

In Adv Novice boys Leon Lo was first (🥇) with 121. 68 points.
Hurrah!!! :points::cheer:

In Adv Novice girls Summer Wijkhuizen was third (🥉) with 99.40 points.
Floor van der Pas was 7th with 87.45 points.
Star Hoen was 9th with 84.36 points.
Lilia Zhang was 10th with 82.86 points.
Charlotte Brands was 14th with 76.59 points.
Arina Krasova was 15th with 75.50 points.
Elina Sucur was 18th with 68.18 points.
Sophie van Vliet was 19th with 67.73 points.
Well done everyone! :cheer::hap10::laugh3::wave2:

There were also loads of basic novice girls and one basic novice boy, but I am leaving these out of this post. Chances are high they won't continue, and if they do, I'll get back to them once they're more advanced.

At the Bavarian Open in Germany Oberstdorf last weekend, Leo Lo was second (🥈 ) in the adv novice boys with 115.64 points. He was 4th in the SP but came racing back in the FS - which he won :points: and made him rise to second. Hurrah! :hap10::hap10::hap10:

He was the only Dutch skater present.

Besides the OG, there are also some other competitions going on (in the 'tail' of the OG), starting this weekend. In Finland there's the ID open which will start tomorrow. Chelsea and Sherim are scheduled to skate there.

Skate Berlin in Germany from 17th-21st of February covers all the Figure Skating Disciplines.
In Sr ID Chelsea and Sherim are scheduled to skate as well.

Do they have to get the minimum TES for the WC in March? Because that might explain it. Normally, the Challenge Cup is the last resort to get them, but this year the CC was very early. I'll check later.

In Jr women Noa Fay Kappenberg is scheduled to compete.

Lastly the Talinn Hotels Cup in Estonia taking place from the 19th-22nd of February (a singles only competition).
Three Sr women are planning to compete there: Saskia Oudejans, Niki Wories and Jolanda Vos.
In Jr women Lucca Dijkhuizen, Kahlan Gooijer and Pheline Wisse are scheduled to compete.

I wish them all a lot of succes! :hap10: :hap10: :hap10:

Just checked...they don't have it yet. They're 0.42 points off.

Although not happy with the result in standings, I am so happy Daria and Michel skated well at the OG. They were the first ever Dutch pair to get there and skated a season's best. What more can you ask from any couple? Granted, it wasn't enough to get to skate the Free while the difference with the Covalevs is small (just about half a point), but they showed they were worthy Olympians. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I think they had those. Our Ice Dance Couple didn't, and there are reasons - even for me as a Dutch woman - not to support them too enthusiastically (they bullied out another ID couple with a nasty lawsuit). That definitely does not apply to Daria and Michel though. They are people you can't help but support. Very sympathetic and friendly. I met them a year ago, and they were so kind and nice to an old fan of figure Skating!

Danilova/Tsiba already had the Worlds minimums. It is the ID team who are half a point short (and still are after the competition in Finland this week).
Sorry for my confusion. Gives me another opportunity to say how much I enjoyed their performance. Who knows, maybe a team will withdraw and they will get to skate anyway. Don't tell anyone I have said that. I just have a bad feeling.

and he is just absolutely gorgeous.

I know. He is also gorgeous for real (the inside bit). I'll never forget that meet-up with them both. Such a lovely young man! It's always so nice when looks are accompanied by kindness and on the whole just niceness.

Unfortunately if a team WDs from the free (and I have a feeling that there is a pair who might) they do not get replaced. I have always felt it was a shame that the spot doesn't get reallocated to the highest placed team which didn't progress, but it doesn't.

WHAT ! that's not cool. That's absolutely not fair. There are about three teams who could w/d at this point... I don' t think they will in the end... but now that you tell me that they don't replace them, I hope nobody w/d

Unless it's different for the Olympics, but I don't think it is. Remember that last time they had an extra lady qualify for the free in case Valieva wasn't allowed to compete, because they would not be able to have that team replace her if she was out.

I love Daria and Michel, but I don't want any other team to withdraw, even if that makes it possible for them to skate. Which it probably won't!
