Short Program

The marks & placements shown are from what I noted while watching. The official results sheets weren't out when I left the arena for the night.
Pairs is the most difficult event to take notes for and it takes so many words to try and describe what they're doing that I sometimes will miss an element while I'm writing about the previous one.

CAN Valois / Boudreau-Beland Start 1 Place 2
Notes her in hot pink & light sparkly top him in black with pink accents on arms / soft romatic piano / bids she goes down nicely & good speed / toe overhead to one hand to helicopter pos / 2a both messed up with hand down - both did lovely ones in warmup / sbs spins were in and out of sync a number of times - some nice pos though / 2 tw is very nice with catch on hip / thr 3t / spirals in O ending in nest spreadeagle to ina / pair opposing cam sit to back - back end was very slow with a few problems / 40.26 /

CAN Fernandez / Veilleux Start 2 Place 3
Notes her in white lacey top with red skirt in him white satin shirt & dark pants / spirals she held one position for a long time / thr 2t / 2tw is pretty good / sbs 2a she under rot & fell he fell out with hands down / toe over head to star / sbs cam ch cam sit bit out of sync on sit / pair spin opposing cam to nested cam with him going over her / bids one down was very nice but it was 'hippy' on the way down / 35.06 /

CAN Anderson / Dzamba Start 3 Place 5
Notes her in red velvet him in black with red cumberbund / little trouble getting in fairly complex opening pos & had to try again / tango / some nice chor to start the program / shoot duck through his legs into 2 tw - effective / sbs 2a she fell & long time getting up don't think he was clean either / toe overhead lift didn't get up / thr 2t / sbs spins were in sync & close together / aside from the chor at the start tohey aren't paying any attention to their music / ids goes down very nicely / pair spin facing cam to opposing cam / 26.50 /

CAN Gorczyca / Luciani Start 4 Place 4
Notes her in black with white sah effect & white underskirt him in black with white shirt black sus & bow tie / sbs 2a she fell / nice 2tw catch on hips / sbs spin cam to sit to 1/2 sit nice sync until very end / toe overhead was good exit looked a bit qwkward / I sa2w pair spin but can't remember pos to describe them / spirals end with her in catch foot and she hold it riht into bids until almost down when she lets go and crosses her legs for rest of spin / they have a really nice look on the ice / 34.18 /

CAN Boutin / Joncas Start 5 Place 1
Notes both in black & white her with black & white polka dot skirt / jazz piano / they look musical right off start / nicest 2 twist of the night him with hands to side / sbs 2a she fell not quite sure what he did / sbs spins have very good pos & speed & pretty much in sync / thr 2t / toe over head to start / they look like they're having fun and they're using their music / spirals have both of them with leg to side straight / bids is nice once down but her rear is sticking in air at start of descent / 41.22 /

:agree:  Yeah!!! Way to go Emilie & PP!

What happened to Alisha Coolin (sp?) & Ryan Sutherland? I thought they were skating Junior Pairs for NewFoundland & Labrador??

Coolin & Sutherland were 1st at BC/Yukon Sectionals on the Junior level, but I do not see them on the results for Western Challenge.

Are Demers-Boutin & Joncas the young team that is coached by Valérie Saurette out of St-Léonard? I saw her team at Summer Provincials in early August and was very impressed, but didn't catch the name...that does sound like their short program, though.

BTW, I just checked final results on the Skate Canada site and they are:
1. Valois & Boudreau-Béland
2. Démers-Boutin & Joncas
3. Fernandez & Veilleux
4. Gorczyca & Luciani
5. Anderson & Dzamba

They had planned to attend Eastern Challenge (they are representing Prince of Wales SC out of St. John's NL, and skated in BC Sectionals as guests). Alisha was also scheduled to compete Junior singles, but unfortunately was injured, hence they withdrew.

I don't know for PP but Emilie is 14 but skating-wise, 13. (Has a birthday in september).

Melbo: Yes, they are coached by Valerie Saurette&Annick Douaire out of St.Leonard (as the other 2 junior teams from QC).
