Ekaterina Bobrova & Dmitri Soloviev

<celebratory bodyroll>:rofl2:

for me the thing is that they are - quite strangely - my biggest discovery of this season. I've always complained how bad her posture on ice is, how crappy programs they have, how bad their costumes are etc...And after a year off they return with such amazing poise, attitude and set of programs! All is now supreme quality for me - now when programs are good, costumes are good I can really appreciate their skill on ice and interpretation. Everything clicked magnificently this season - and it's quite remarkable after taking a one year off competition.

I am beyond the moon about them getting bronze (maybe a bit bummed they did not snag silver...) and smashing their PB in FD - welcome in 107+ club :cheer:!!!

Their emotional reaction, smiles at Victory Ceremony and Zhulin's tears of happiness in K'n'C told it all - hopefully they can carry the momentum at Worlds!

You DID NOT just diss the best contemporary free dance under COP system 'A Man with a Harmonica', right? Because the way I see it, it was pure perfection: challenging technically and strong emotionally. And DRAMAHHHHH!!!!! :drama:

okay, let me rephrase myself (apologies!) - they did have crappy programs ASIDE of 2012/13 FD, this was a step in right direction actually:agree:

They were doing contemporary before it was trendy, I guess. Hope they don't go there too soon - unless if it's to blow everyone out of the water.

They looked happier than the other two couples on the podium combined.

Well, you know, Gabriella and Guillaume are quite shy, especially Guillaume.
Never expect them to express their happiness ostentatiously. Just like you will never see them wearing costumes with spangles.

I agree - hopefully they'll get right programs next seasons too.

And please don't beat me - but yesterday I've thought about Carmen for FD next season...:slink:

Well, I wouldn't be opposed, but I think at this point, especially after last season, a Carmen wouldn't realy be a good choice. At least not for some years, lol.

I hope Zhulin knows better than to do the dead birds again - although, it would be interesting to see a less literal version and more contemporary thing now that the gate seems to be open :drama:

No! No Carmen for anyone! It's always the same interviews about "Carmen like it's never been done before!", and then you get either same old, same old traditional interpretations or some wild stabs at "modern" that might work or might not (often they don't, or at least parts of audience and judges don't get it...). Also, Zhulin already did one Carmen for Navka/Kostomarov and they won Olys with it, so you wouldn't only have the comparisons with B/B, K/O and V/M, you'd have Zhulin's own work as a reference point as well. Very risky.

I hope they come up with something good again, I think Zhulin tends to be a bit hit and miss on that front (with all his pairs, though I guess no choreographer has a spotless record there...). What I really appreciate about Anna Karenina (I didn't at first, but the longer the season wears on the clearer it gets), is that it's such a contrast to all that twinkling and wafting around with nebulous concepts going on around them, particularly coming from Montreal. So I like S/K and their old-fashioned Bocelli throwback, C/L doing C/L, C/B attempting Rach and at least giving it some oomph and drama, G/P being wacky, and B/S doing Anna Karenina.

hmmmm, I wouldn't call them 'wacky', but they're definitely lighting the candle for true quirkiness and originality - both their dances this season are 'out there' and it's kind of refreshing. And their FD is a gem for me - the level of uniqueness is insane, music is haunting and choreography is actually very innovative. I'm a bit of no regarding costumes presented at Nationals for FD, but it's not that disturbing for me

If we're talking about war-horses here, I can see them doing extremely successful 'Danse Macabre' or even 'Bolero'. I agree with Matt here, they're probably the only team in current field who can pull it off!
'Violin Muse' would be good for them too, it's pretty dance friendly and dramatic and doesn't sound too classic, like original Chaconnes it came from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8xL26bU218

What do you guys think?

In fact, Zhulin did TWO 'Carmen's. Last season Bobrova/Soloviev's paso doble SD was to 'Carmen'. Ironic, right? That we did not see it, and will probably never see it ever. And it was finished whole dance, not just an abstract idea. Not sure if it's for the best or for the worst.

Violin muse is really pretty, but It's just not as nuanced as Anna Karenina is, for example. Or as Bolero, I actually would really like them to do a version of Bolero.

However, if we're going the bolero route, I think they could try Zbigniew Preisner's bolero, or the Red or Blue soundtrack, both are pretty fantastic. One of my favorite pieces from his is the Song of the Unification of Europe. Is a dramatic piece, really heavy, and I think it could be perfect for them.

Or they could even try Schnittke's Concerto Grosso No. 1. Love that one too.

Yes to Schnittke! Not enough skating to that guy, I say.

Team Beaver!!

Okay, I'm ready, sorry for the delay.

After my lessons I decided to spend the evening doing shopping! The most famous shopping street in London is Oxford street. So I went there for a walk. I just couldn't not to visit (as so many people advised me) toy store named "Hamleys". And there I got stuck for 2 hours... It's 5 floors! Each floor has its own theme. There's floor for the youngest children (educational games, toys, children's puzzle), a 'pink floor' (Barbie, Hello Kitty, tutus), adult puzzles (big puzzles, radio-controlled models) and much more! I just walked around with my eyes bugged out in amazement! On every floor there was a personnel who played with kids. And even with adults! And it was really very cool and entertaining! Someone drew something, someone played with toy cars and helicopters, someone made funny animals from long baloons. There were even illusionists!!! In general, everything was made for adults to feel themself a kids again :) There is also separate space for LOTR and Harry Potter fans. Everything here is exactly the same as in the movies! Marauder's Map, the seven tablets, the ring which looks exactly the same as the one from the movie "Lord of the Rings"! And EVERY. Absolutely EVERY magic wand (or is it actually magic sticks? :scratch2:) from Harry Potter movies! Very cool! If I was a crazy fanatic I would have bought everything!!! And I actually didn't leave without my present. I will post the photo tomorrow. But for now you can guess what is it (her present):
a) Minion.
b) 2000 pieces puzzle with London sights.
c) a beaver.
Good night to everyone.

P.S. And of course this is my long awaited photo from the platform 9 3/4

I bet it's Beaver!
