Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I could see them doing Bollywood with much flair and bravura. They even have the 'looks' to complement the dance but I question them choosing Najarro to choreograph a dance that's entirely out of this choreographer's bailiwick. Odd! But I guess, his Flamenco background would help.
 
I wonder whether they will use the same Bollywood dance school Meryl & Charlie used?

They called Anuja Rajendra, who combines Bollywood music and dance with exercise at her BollyFit studio in Ann Arbor, Mich. Rajendra, who once performed professionally, not only showed them how to move their arms and bodies in true Indian dance style, she suggested music and taught them about Indian culture.

Najarro isn't choroegraphing anythig for them. They said they met with a French choreographer for three days for the FD, and that both programs are done. Going to Spain is part of their vacation, they're just working with Najarro due to his dance background to help make their movements crisper and improve their expression.

There have been a sufficient amount of Bollywood FD's over the years: Aldridge and Eaton in 2013/2014, Abachkina and Thauron 2014/2015, Delmaestro and Lum this season. But, as dorispulaski pointed out, the problem is making it look all coherent. The Bollywood library is enormous (Asha Bhosle by herself has 12,000 songs to her credit) and even if you just use one film, it might be difficult to string together the songs to make a full program. Davis and White's SD did an excellent job of editing the music and making it build. The others, not so much.

Najarro isn't choreographing I/Z FD.
 
Well the way I look at it the only resounding success in terms of the Bollywood theme has been Davis and White and that was a SD. We have had in comparison a glut of romantic pieces, its high time for something refreshing, which I think this could be if true. A few of my favourite FD excluding Frida from this season have been Hitchcock and Dreams from G/P, Bonnie and Clyde from D/S, Crazy from B/S, Lacrimosa from Stavisky, Money from V/M and Sampson and Delilah from D/W. We are also going to get Under Pressure from C/B this year unless they're told to dump it come camp.

As I/Z are a dancey pair they could really surprise with their programs this year. I get the feeling that many experts within the Russian Federation wouldn't know what a great FD was if it up and slapped them in the face. So they could really go places with this especially if the international judges like it. So I really hope they do a couple senior b's this year.

Coldplay, while, of course, not classical music, resembles it much more aesthetically than Bollywood music, which comes from a totally different tradition of musical culture.

I have no doubt whatsoever that they can do a wonderful program to Indian music, just as they’d done a wonderful program to Frida. I just am not sure the judges will want to uphold it.

Aldridge and Eaton placed 17th at Worlds that season. The others also weren’t anywhere near the pedestal. I’m sure the judges won’t mind a Bollywood FD from a team that doesn’t aspire to much. I’m just not sure they’d want to uphold it on the highest level.

I wholly agree with you on D/W’s Bollywood SD, but, as somebody who likes romantic pieces, I can say that for people with such a taste there can never be a glut of such programs. Also many people who enjoy classical music believe it to be vastly superior to all other kinds of music. And I think people who become fs judges tend to belong to one of these categories or both, for the most part.
 
Honestly, Ruslena could skate circles in their sleep around Aldridge/Eaton, who were only at worlds anyway because both D/W and H/D skipped. It's not like that team fared any better with their more conventional GWTW program. I see no reason a clean, high quality Bollywood FD wouldn't be scored well from Ruslena. The fact is, not many teams have tried it, and most of the teams that did just weren't very good. Igor coached D/W when they did their OD, he knows what he's doing.
 
Have we all just forgotten V/T getting the 2nd highest SP score of the season with their Bollywood program?

They only used one song from the Ram & Leela soundtrack, so that kind of worked out really well, although Trankov's try on Indian moves was terrible.
I'm actually relieved that IZ are going to work with Najarro, since the cuts for Frida and Carmen were great. If the rumor is true, I hope he will make some suggestions if the music cuts are not working.

Spiral, why do you post in this thread if you genuinely have no faith in Ruslena's ability to do any sort of program well? Why not take a wait and see approach?

Indian music sounds like a good choice for IZ, I like it better than the Frida announcement last year. But since it's pure speculation at this point, I'll stick to trusting Shpilband's expertise to know what he's doing and what he wants to achieve with IZ. Can't wait to hear about their senior B outings; the season can't start soon enough. :D
 
It's nice that Igor will be giving Elena and Ruslan a completely different looking program from what Chock and Bates will be doing this season with Under Pressure, if the Bollywood rumor is true. :) no cookie cutters to be seen here!

This :agree: I'm really curious about the SD choices now for all of Igor's teams but especially C/B, I/Z and Co/Bu. I am really impressed by how Co/Bu have improved with Igor. I mean Buckland has become really good!! He seemed more stable and confident over his blade than the much heralded Katsalapov, great posture with excellent lines; such clean turns and their twizzles were really great; not to mention their first lift in the free dance that they seem to do in slow motion :love: Okay I need to stop right now and go to their fan thread:biggrin:
