Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Nathalie Pechalat & Alban Preaubert had nice things to say on French Eurosport this weekend about I/Z: "If you [meaning S/K] leave your partners claming to be the strongest ones, you better prove it. They didn't. But maybe it was not the case to begin with" and "I always thought that Katsalapov was good, he is, but Ilinykh is irreplaceable"
I LOVE YOU Nathalie!!!!!:cheer: LOVELY STATEMENT :laugh2:

HAHAH She seriously said that? I love her even more now. 😜 :hb:

Omg everyone around them looking like: "Are you two okay?"
Honestly I don't see it at all. They stood alongside in line with other Gala participants, they held hands normally, as anyone else who'd be in line holding hands, others on the right were not looking at them directly- most probably just trying to see if they had to move with the group to make another round on the rink. And that's it. It's just my opinion of course. But I don't see any drama in that picture.;)

Maybe. But I wish I knew what thoughts were in their heads in this moment. Priceless.:drama:

They (Nikita and Elena) fit each other perfectly as a dance couple, especially in physical aspect. Ruslan has to build up still, he managed those lifts but they were a bit shaky for me. They danced theis faces off during the competitions as well as in the Gala- and that's where Elena comes as a queen, she could lead the show and she did it. Kudos to Ruslan for being stronger than during their first competition but they have to remember- they have so much work to do until they will be cosidered a top couple. I think Ruslan could actually get to Elena's level only in a year from now. And I want to see that. Because I believe they have a great future, they simply need to work and progress and not give up.

For sure Viki and Nikita looked a bit :hopelessness: IMO
Ruslan seems like he doesn't care, after all thanks to S/K he gets the chance to skate with the best lady ice dancer.

Yes. I was worried about this weekend because I thought the emotions of coming up against their former partners could distract them, but they managed to channel it perfectly, especially in the Short Dance. The difficult part is to keep the momentum going when they don't have the energy to draw from a situation like that. But I was already pleased see their responses to the press after CoR - some memebers of the media tried to draw them on the rivalry with S/K, and Ruslan said the only people they compete with are themselves. That's the right attitude to have. They also asked if they were happy with the improvements in the FD, and Lena said no, she was very unhappy because there were still big technical mistakes. So they seem very very driven to suceeed for themselves and not just to beat the ex-partners.

I really see a good future for them too. The transformation in Ruslan in the last 6 months is amazing. My friends used to say they didn't understand how he was related to Nelli because he seemed so bland in comparison to her, but this weekend he was so commanding. There's obviously still a lot of work to do sharpening unison, working on the lifts and spins particularly, but there were already moments particularly in the SD where they seemed perfectly together, the movements matched each other, the music, & the feeling of the program. The speed and lightness on the ice is stunning. There's just so much potential if they keep working!

Side note: both scores this weekend were an ISU personal best for Ruslan, and the total score was the fourth best overall this season, & less than 3 points behind the Shibs who have the third best score.

+1
Are they dating?

I hope they don't date each other and just maintain the healthy working relationship. Dating will make them too emotional and may destroy everything. I/K had dated for a while and look how bad the result is. Personal relationship with partner or coach is not helpful esp. for young skaters.

You see I'm afraid that their scores were a little home kind of flattering.;) So they need to show their best continuously in each event. And that is tough.
I think of all of them the biggest challenge is Ruslan's. He has to build up and it's not easy, he has to get to Elena's speed and progress in presentation a lot. What I saw at their first competition did not convince me at all. Cup of Russia was a big improvement! But- as we said- still a long way to go. Hope they work hard and get higher.

Flattering for them in the free, but I think it was flattering for everyone from S/K on. Not really home cooking, but just nicer judges in general for all skaters than at the other grand prixes. :)

I thought their debut in China was very good indeed. I didn't expect that and they were underscored there.
Russia was even better. They were overscored but so was everybody. The italians commentator were right.
They said S&K were overscored in PCS and from there the judges were kind of forced to overscore the others.
They thought the judges were strict with the tech.part and generous with the PCS.

p.s. Ruslan and Elena are not dating. No worries.

It's an off-topic but I think that ladies got quite lots of deductions (I mean- comparing tech score on-line and actual result) in LP.
