Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I think this is what gives me (and other people) some hesitation about this whole thing... even taking Igor our of the conversation, all the things these two really need help with are things Kustarova either 100% can't give them (someone who is good at politicking and a big name in the skating world for example) or probably won't be able to give them just because they are weaknesses for all her teams.

They probably don't have any other choice. They have 3 weeks until their next GP, so no time to go coach shopping. Maybe they can use Igor as their summer coach while staying with Kustarova during the season. Or Kustarova will magically learn how to give their teams more polish.

When they changed to Igor, I was happy and thought that was the best move they did. Now they are back to last year. And the timing doesn't sound right. It's the 3rd year that they dance together. They seem not improving steadily as S/K.

Do you have info on them shopping for coaches or keeping Igor as a summer coach?Speculations abound, but are we that sure the work we saw wasn't just recently done in that month? And how was attention and preparation in Novi? In the realms of speculating?Better not come into conclusions without work, especially on whether the chance wasn't their decision. They will speak when it's time, I'm sure

The bio link is up for two days now it's not new, and I think it was clear they changed coaches for a while now.

Ok, let me give you a piece of my mind, since everyone knows better...
Here is not a IZ vs SK thread. You can start a thread called ' I dream of Ginnie, sorry IK' and cry, or a thread called ' IZ vs SK battle royale' and trash.

And trashing your favourite team in one forum and not changing your handle in the other doesn't really help..

I hope tomorrow the sky is clear, and birds are singing less songs of agony.Amen.

The advantage that they have over previous years with Kustarova is that they have well put together programs. It is easier to polish good choreography than it is to try get something great out of the material they had for Appassionata & the Queen SD. They had no problems getting the GOE & polish for Carmen. So not ideal, but not a disaster.

Alithia, I have no idea what you are trying to cryptically reference, but you are the one bringing up I/K, no one else.

Good point.
Let's talk about more pleasant things. Are you bringing a Ruslena banner with you to Paris? And if yes, is it going to be Bollywood inspired? :)

I'm going to try to fashion something this weekend. No theme in mind so far other than lots of sparkles! Is anyone else from the thread going to be in Paris?

Nick Verros (designer who was on Project Runway) gave Elena and Ruslan some high praise for their FD costumes. I agree with him:)

Elena Ilinykh and Ruslan Zhiganshin of Russia Fee Dance to Slumdog Millionaire (soundtrack)
Ang Laga De by Aditi Paul: My ears--and eyes--always perk up any time Ice Dancers do a "Bollywood" theme. Russians Ilinykh and Zhiganshin ventured into India and with costume gusto! I liked these costumes for many reasons: The colors were vibrant and great, the sequin work was fabulous (love her "choker necklace" and his paisley detail!). These looks were Mumbai Hot!

Not me...:scowl: Work is getting between me and watching Ruslena live, but sparkles sound awesome!

Cool! I`ve to say in the costume department they really raised their game this season. No more black for Ruslena! Well, except for Ruslan`s tux, but that`s ok, since he looks handsome in it!

I am so happy about this. :agree: And I agree with Nick about their costumes. Loved the FD ones. Not bad the SD costumes either but I want smth more bold from Elena. :hap85:

As for the coach. I have one in mind since ages. Platov.

I`m reading this name as a potential coach for Ruslena since they teamed up
They could be a good fit, since he doesn`t have many teams and could give them a more individual approach. Besides one of the reasons I/Z went to Novi was to have a stronger male presence in their coaching team. Who knows though if the Russian Fed would ever allow it. IMO, Platov is a coach who just needs that one talented team to breakthrough.

He does not like the lift where Ruslan has his knee on the ice because it is impossible to carry speed through the lift because of the drag. As a result, they were short of speed going into the next element. Plus you can legitimately lose GOE on the lift for not carrying speed and not getting ice coverage.

I would also add that personally I do not like that lift esthetically. It just seems as an element put there, out of nowhere, cause they need to do it and it serves no other purpose. I like their FD - well, as much as I could like a Bollywood theme - and the only criticism I have about it is that the changes from one piece to another should be a smoother and related. I don't know how to explain cause it's not all about music editing, but also choreographically speaking they seem kinda different pieces of dance.

I think that songs #1,#2 and #4 fit together, only song #3 feels odd. I guess it`s there to give them time to breath, but I would prefer it if they used Jai Ho longer instead putting Ang Laga De in the middle. Anyway, I discovered that the more I watch the Free Dance, the more I like it. It`s not love at first sight like with Frida, but still a good program.

Yeah, for me Frida still remains one of the best programs I've seen in ID. Pity it wasn't appreciated. :rolleye:

By the way, do we know now which judge gave what? Just out of curiosity, not that I care much at this point.

Thanks Marta, but how can you tell from the protocols?

The number of the judge in the protocols corresponds to the number in the panel of judges from the isu result page. For example in the Short Dance the scores from judge #1 in the protocols are the scores from the Italian judge and so on.
