Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

What did she said then? I don't remember now.

Something like "I don't know anything about this, after Worlds we are going straight into preparing for next year as usual". Nikita just said I don't want to comment, I'm focusing on the competition, but she flat out denied it. Kustarova said they had suspected something was going on, but that she never said anything to them until the week after Worlds when she went back to the rink with her mother to take her things & said that she was going to skate with Nikita & they could do nothing to stop her.

This article doesn't say anything new, but it's really really complimentary & I love how the coaches describe them - Lena is bright & one of the best female partners in the world, and Ruslan is like a good setting for a diamond in the way he presents her.

They are working hard and I suspect they want to make their coaches proud. Good for them.

That isn't what she said. The Itar-Tass article simply paraphrased the interview from fsrussia what she said and added their own interpretation This article shows exactly what both said to fsrussia. http://sporteveryday.info/pages/vik...higanshin-vokrug-nashey-paryi-nikakih-sluhov/

All Viktoria said was that she was that around their pair, there are no rumors. She didn't say she is staying with Ruslan or that there is no split. Just that she wasn't paying attention to gossip. Kustarova in her interview later said they heard rumors before worlds and decided to figure out if the rumors were true by getting one of the tour managers to come to the rink with contracts. Ruslan signed but Viktoria didn't and they knew then it was true. Viktoria then came to confess the next day.

And if Ruslan signed a contract you'd think he'd know for certain he was doing a tour. But in his comments to fsrussia, you can tell he was vague about what they are doing after worlds.

Ilinykh's mom posted some dance training vids.

This is the paso training from very early in the partnership. You can see the rawness but also the huge potential.

Thanks for sharing! Ruslan looks very good in the first one with Najarro, more reserved in the other two. Lena is of course amazing in all videos.

I really, really like the first one. You can tell from the videos that he is such a caring, calm soul. He is very gentle with Lena. To have progressed this far speaks to his character.

Shifting gears a bit, she and her mom are too sweet. Its like the umbilical cord hasn't been cut.

Thanks for interview, I didn’t see it before.

But this was plaing with words by Victoria. Everybody knew what was journalist asking for and Victoria answered. Yes, she didn’t say exactly: ”We will never split, I don’t know anything about me skating with Nikita!”…but she answered in way that everybody explained it that there is no split situation. She is really smart like Nikita described, but not very frank.

And frankly I think that both Ruslan and coaches were surprised with her answering like this. I think that this was the reason why Alexeeva commented later that she knows nothing about the split and the couple will stay together. After World FD there was no reason why to keep split in secrecy, but Nikita didn’t want to comment and Vika answered in way that everybody explained it in way that there is no split. So I guess that both Ruslan and coaches thought that after so successful 7th place finish of S&Z Vika and Nikita changed mind. Why they would be quiet then? But of course the reality was pretty different, but nor Vika either Nikita were not able to say it straightly without any soubtfulnis.

(Don’t forget that the tour contract was signed after Olympics where they finished on a dissapointing 16th place, while they finished 7th at World Chamionships – which is wonderful result for first competition there – except Virtue & Moir, Davis & White and Ilinykh & Katsalapov – nobody finished so high at first World Championhips).

But this is past, it is over.

I am curious how will European Championships look like…unfortunately I think that Lena and Ruslan will have the most difficult position from all medal contenders. They are ranked like 16th European couple there thanks to World Standings and if the old rule about starting order is true….then all couples (looking at World Standings) are divided into two half and from better half top 10 couples skate in the last two groups. The rest from the better half skate in third best group. The worse half couples skate in opening groups.

So we have 30 dance couples here - http://www.isuresults.com/events/cat00008363.htm , Lena and Ruslan are 16th in World Standings from European couples. 15 couples with the highest score at World Standings will skate in Group 4-6, top 10 couples will skate in Group 5-6. The lower 15 couples will be in Group 1-3, they draw starting order without any other rules, so any couple can draw from number 1 to 15. So with bad luck Lena and Ruslan may be opening the whole competition.

But it is said that what doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger….so I expect they will fight hard for getting appropriate placements.

This would be very bad luck. But I do think the judges believe they deserve to be in a top spot. All judges know their SS are great, they have good programs.. the judges all know what their programs are like, compared to some other couples who have not had as much exposure. I think that even if they start in the first group in the SD, they will start in the last or second to last group in FD because they will not be underscored by too much. They are known and loved, and even their worst SD scored a little bit over 60 points, something not many other couples from the bottom 15 will be able to do even with good skates. Of course, starting later would be more beneficial, but I don't think it will hold them back too much.

The starting order is unfortunate, but the advantage I/Z have is that compared to other new couples the judges know who they are. Elena is the reigning Olympic Bronze Medalist and was on the podium at Europeans for the last 3 seasons. Besides, you also have to consider that I/Z`s first half of the season was very strong, internationally and nationally. They are the reigning Russian Champion and go into Euros as Russia`s #1. Further, they already established themselves as one of the strongest teams in the World with their qualification to the GPF. The crucial part for I/Z will be to nail that SD. If they do that, they can even compete for the Gold.

I did'nt posted in this thread yet, but now I want to join I/Z fans. They are incredibly after such a short time together. I thought so long Carmen as FS music
is not working for innovating program, but after watching their SD I changed my mind: Carmen can work so freshly and alively.
Especially I love the art how Ruslan portrays a hopeless infaturated lover.

Hardly I can wait for EC next week.

.
Even if they skate early if they nail, I truly believe they can score 70. Their SD is the best out there Imo. If they nail with their presentation it will be difficult to score them low. If you look at the seasons best and take out W/P and C/B that leaves P/C and I/Z at the top ( I don't count senior B's, they are kinda lower bar) I/Z are now Russia's #1 and I think scores are going to go up. They had some time off and a good amount of training time, I think they will be fresh the second half of the season:)
