Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I always knew that they would be a technically strong team, but the question was always if they would have any chemistry or if they would just look like two people who happened to be on the ice together. They're both great skaters, but that's not all that makes a great team. I don't think I could ever have imagined that they would make the final FD group at worlds, or win Nationals. I just hoped they'd make worlds and maybe place 10th.

It's really stunning how quickly they've come together, most new teams take at least a couple years to get these kind of results. Part of it is that they're both strong skaters, but I really think they bring out the best in each other and they seem so happy together. I really love them as a team and I'm so happy that things have turned out so well for them. They've grown so much and improved together, and I can't wait to see them in the fall.

Hi Tanka, I missed you. :) To tell the truth I don't do that, but now I'm curious. I don't remember what I wrote back then, but I as far as I can remember I've always been optimistic about these two skating together. I never expected them to have such a good first year and I was skeptical about Carmen at first, so in a sense they surprised me but I never had any fear or doubt that these two would 100% fit together. For me they were the best two parts of their previous couples, so what could go wrong?! ;):)

Yes you were! It's how we bonded!

When I see the magic Najarro created for their SD last season, my anticipation only increases for the FD. The amount of work they have done this season, never mind their results is impressive. I pray they become exceedingly consistent next season.
I feel the same way! I also hope that with the good rest they've been able to get and with their first year together behind them, they'll be considerably less nervous and less tired in the new season, and consequently more consistent.

I was taken in like so many other people by Marina's chat about how amaaaaazing her blue eyed darlings would be ;) although every interview she did made me so angry with Victoria & Nikita for being so classless. And I suppose a little bit of me hoped that Nikita would learn not to be an idiot & come back & that I/K would finally be the team I always hoped they would be. And then there was Cup of China and everything changed! I had to hide out in a Starbucks next to my office to watch the SD first thing in the morning & I was so proud of both of them (and it's silly to be proud of people achieving things that you had nothing to do with, but whatever!), and then they went to CoR and were even better than I had ever hoped for. I was at GPF with my skating friends & I remember one of them asking me "If you knew that Elena would win the OGM in 2018 either way, would you rather she skated with Ruslan or Nikita?", and by that point, my answer was just "...Nikita who?".
ROFL!
Well, with equitable results I'd have preferred that she skated with Ruslan even before I'd seen them together, just from the psychological standpoint. It must have been really difficult for her to work with a partner who didn't really appreciate her and on whom she couldn't rely.
But most tellingly, I liked how Elena said in an interview: "Ruslan Zhiganshin is my partner, and I'll keep skating with him regardless of our results." Now, that's loyalty! :)

I haven't seen it either. It's a great pic! I wonder when and where this was taken. Did they give some other master-class during the season?

On a different topic, I've thought of another and probably most important reason why they'll most likely be more stable in the coming season. In this one they kept changing their FD throughout the season, making it more complicated, because they had just begun skating together when it was first choreographed. But now they can create their programs once and for all, so that they'll feel more comfortable to them after each skate.

It was right after Rostelecom Cup. These kids train in their ice rink:)

Yes - I saw clips from the test skate in August & even then it was completely different from what they did in China two months later - all of the lifts had changed, & the transitions were different. The only thing that stayed the same was the step sequences, and that was always the part they were most consistent on. So if they get it right from the start, everything will be so much easier for them. Plus, although they were alwasy polite about Ilia, I get the impression that by Christmas last season, they just didn't like the program that much. They got everything they could out of it at GPF & really they needed a different vehicle after that.

How great)

So one of the top choreographers is doing the SD, she can't name him/her yet. And there will be a specialist for lifts from the U.S. for ten days in Latvia with them

And generally, only the way she speaks about animals makes me cry

I`m also hoping for CoC and CoR. I just hope they won`t get SA or SC, I think those are too early for them. Anyway, the more I hear about their preparation, the more I get excited. It seems like they go all out this season with the people they are working with. I wonder who will choreograph their SD, though. I`m also sooo happy that they are working with a lift specialist.

I don't think it's gonna be SA because it's too close with the competition in Saranks.
