Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I noticed that in the livestream, a smart move ;).
Does anybody know what Tarasova said exactly? She seemed agitated, so I'm rather curious.

She was gushing all the time, during the SD and FD.

How great she is, how she feels the music, that she has everything. How good partner Ruslan is. How crazy fast they are. She loves their twizzles even with that mistakes etc.etc. etc.

I read that she praised Elena during the FD. She was overall very complimentary towards them.

For Elena's FD dress, maybe she could have the flowers embroidered like they do with some Tehuana dresses and a different black material for the dress.

For Ruslan, maybe they could try a Guayabera type shirt (something like a linen material) with black embroidery in the front and the painting in back embroidered too.

Elena's passion for Frida is contagious and has got me reading Frida's diary and the love letters Frida wrote to Diego as well as articles on Frida. In her diary, Frida wrote what she associated with certain colors which is interesting. For black, she wrote something like nothing is really black.

What do we have to do as fans to get a photoshoot of Elena and Ruslan together? Those two are hot tamales and they would sizzle in a photoshoot together!

Thanks @ Alba & Marta. Naturally Tarasova had to change her mind at some point, glad she did now.

I love the red dress and the one Salma is wearing. I like the idea of Ruslan wearing a linen material also. Although I do like the costumes he's using now. If Lena changes her color's dress, like in red for example, his costume would be perfect as it is.

I`m also glad that she is supporting them now. She was a huge I/K fangirl, so I think that she is now so complimentary of I/Z shows how much they have improved over the off-season.

Yes I was thinking she actually has always liked Elena so this isn't really such a huge shock in a way... just after last season it seems like such a big turnaround. Glad she's getting over the split like Elena clearly has :)

I like both of the costumes as they are individually, but I don't think they work together - Ruslan's is a "concept" with the painting, but Elena is an actual character. It would work better if he was also dressed in a style that was more like what Diego actually wore, just a simple shirt and jacket. Alternatively, keep his costume as it is, make Elena less overtly "Frida", instead think more about the ideas behind her painting and change the colours on her dress to match the ones in the painting.

I love her Frida hair & makeup, so I vote they change Ruslan's look. They could even just switch the suit from the SD in, and then get more ~rockstar~ outfits for the SD.

My friends & I used to call TAT "Elena's grandma" in 2009/10 because she made such a fuss over her all the time, and last season she was more like the wicked stepmother... I'm glad she's changed back now!

I just watched the new TSL episode and it made me laugh (I always find them entertaining) because Jenny and Dave are obviously afraid of I/Z and are starting their own politicking game for Boston. So they must think (though they obviously wouldn't say that) that I/Z a force to be reckoned with and I like that.

Meh, I don't think they are worth taking seriously. It might genuinely just be their opinion, and that's their right, but I really feel they are just wrong :laugh2: I will say in Dave's defense he was a BIG fan of I/K and clearly is not over it.

The words that come to mind when I think of TSL are tabloid trash, unprofessional, to name a few. Why they would tell the world that W/P had an injury which they themselves had no interest in discussing, is just......You sort of have to take everything they say with generous amounts of salt.

I wouldn't call them trash. North American coverage of the sport is horrid and I rely of them for a lot of it. I strongly disagreed with the dance coverage and told them so. I agree with their thoughts on W/P and the fact that Madison Chock can't skate. Dave was all for I/K but he needs to let that go. Many people were attached to the aesthetic look, but this is ice dance. They need to be attached to the skating. I personally prefer Ruslan to Nikita not just in look but in skating. He has a dancers grace and wonderful expression. He is a strong partner and can match Elena's fire.

Or at the very least both. As Charlie White said though a few seasons ago, ice dance is a very TECHNICAL sport. I think MANY forget that.

This TSL episode was the first time they actually said something positive about Ruslena, so I have a feeling I/Z are growing on them and can become they guilty pleasure as the season progresses. They are not ready to admit it yet xD

I was going to mention this too- they did acknowledge that both have strong skating skills and that hers have gotten stronger. I think they said something else positive too but I've already forgotten, as I tend to do with these two. :laugh2:

They complimented the free dance. They did say they feel that they have no chemistry, which I am not sure what they are watching. They also said they were slow during WWRY, which again o disagree.

The only negative thing they said that I felt had some objective truth to it is that they still do use a lot of hand to hand holds at certain places, but I don't think it is really excessive, and it is only their second season together- more complex holds throughout will come. The rest was either only their opinion or IMO actually objectively untrue.

lol I actually thought the hand to hand hold thing was just "standard criticism we'll trot out because we'd rather spend 15 minutes talking about Sean Rabbitt than paying attention to top foreign ice dance teams". Their use of hand to hand hold has really dropped, and when they do use it now, it's because they are doing something more complicated with their feet - like when Lena is in a layback ina bauer & Ruslan is doing a spiral - or when they are changing hold - and the ISU judging handbook is 100% fine with that, they just don't want teams skating round all the time like two kids walking in a crocodile to school. There was stuff TSL could have picked up on, like needing to work on matching leg lines, keeping momentum when they come out of lifts, but so often with TSL I feel like they've decided what they are going to say about teams before they've watched the program.

If they were in any way authentic they would have watched the control rentals and realized that this skate was actually a very rough one for Ruslan. Don't know whether it was nerves, stamina or he just wasn't feeling well but he was struggling and its very visible in their reactions at the end of the skate. So using it to declare that they have no chemistry was laughable at best. And even then you could see the potential of the program.

So given what biased research they actually do, I tend to stop watching within 1 - 2 minutes of their ramblings, if that much. Somehow I just can't get through a single episode.
