Wow, he had some strong words about the lack of creativity/artistry of the six GPF qualifiers. All they have to do in response is show a video of any of his and Linichuck's amateur FDs and say "right back at ya."

TBH though he has a point. Except for the Shibs who stood out for me the rest was meh...
The sad thing though these sad retreads of programs with the exception of the Shibs are what the judges have been giving the high scores to. When they had the chance to go with novel skates both this season and others past, they tend to go with safe. That's the reason we have soo many white bread programs these days. Puhlease, could P/C surprise us in a good way?
I don't even find what the Shibs are doing that interesting - it's just that anything would be a step up from their programs of the last two seasons. And seeing them live against the other top teams really highlighted again to me how they don't have power in their skating or the ability to fill the ice with their presence in a way that even a team like C/L does. Junior dance in Barcelona was even more depressing, with mis-matched partnerships, stagnating teams and poor technique all over the place.
Can't wait to see I/Z back on the ice! A week to go to Nationals.
I also was in Barcelona and I think a lot of the impact of Shibs`FD is due to the music. I was very disappointed in C/B and H/D, the Rach FD is not working and H/D`s programs are both so boring, especially their FD. I liked the Shibs and W/P the most, but the whole time I was thinking "I wish Ruslena were here". I only mentioned in a previous post how surprised I was to see that B/S`s scores were way behind W/P and C/B. Regarding the Russian teams, I have to say that I was surprised by Karponosov`s words. Most people on forums think that B/S`s spot on the World team is pretty secure with either S/K and I/Z joining them, but he sounds as if he would prefer a S/K and I/Z team. I`m really looking forward to see I/Z again and to see the improvements they made to both programs since COR.
I think he is going to push an I/Z and S/K rivalry in hopes that it will elevate Russian dance. I posted a long thought on the previous page.
Hmm, this could be true. Both teams are young enough to go until 2022, they are all Olympians with each team having one Olympic medalists and the media loves the "ex-partners skating against each other" storyline.

hwell:He is trying to bring back a 90's era of ice dance. With domestic rivals pushing Russian dance and swinging the pendulum back in that direction.
I understand what you mean and that's the main reason why I'm not like a crazy fan of Shibs but heir programs this season are far better than any of the couples at the GPF. C&L might have the presence but their "fun" and always "happy" programs&attitude have become: "when happiness becomes a depression" for me.hwell: It's outdated and it's not backed with the skating. Not to mention that makes the skaters looks sooooooo cheap.
I feel so worried for Russian National.

I don't worry at all. And I'm at this point where the only thing that keeps me interested in ice dancing, and russian dancing as well is indeed I/Z.
