Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Wow, he had some strong words about the lack of creativity/artistry of the six GPF qualifiers. All they have to do in response is show a video of any of his and Linichuck's amateur FDs and say "right back at ya."

LOL you really would like to respond to him by asking, So, Mr K, seen any good aboriginal programs lately?

Gosh, I hope my eyes stop rolling soon.

Totally forgot that he was partially responsible for that OD. I wonder what they were thinking. A nice traditional Russian folk dance would have given them also the Bronze in Vancouver.

Anyway, I`m also looking forward to next season. There isn`t one SD this season, that excites me the way I/Z`s Carmen did. Maybe the Waltz is just not my thing.

With the exception of them and I/Z all the other FD are clones of P/C even P/C's new FD. TBH I'm already looking forward to next season.:confused2:

Well, C&L can't clone anybody even if they wanted to. They tried last season and failed.

As for PC, for me their SD is a bad copy of their Mozart FD, but with a boring music. Their FD is very nice but they already did skate to that program last season too. Wait a minute, they have skated 3 similar programs in 1 and half season. That must be a record. Their image&style has become so similar to D&L (their coaches) that it feels awkward.

After that Epic Fail I thought I would never see Mr.K back in FS again. Only 3 years later and I find him as a head of ID in Russia. It looks like UN officials career.

Oh the irony. This man, who gave us that masterpiece, is the head cook and bottle washer for Russian ice dance. :laugh2::rofl2: Seriously in times like these what is Ilinykh to do :palmf: Puhlease, send this girl an epiphany next season, again. :bed:#inneedofaprayeremoticon#

To be fair though I don't think he had anything to do with the choreo. That was always Natalia's "creativity". Don't get me wrong, they were brilliant technitians. Great coaches indeed but the choreography was not her forte although she was convinced otherwise and it was very jealous too.

Very true. Linichuk was certainly a "creative" soul, lol.

 It was kind of cute and funny listening to Tanith speaking about Natalia and her imagination and creativity.

I do love that interview! I also like how Linichuk advised her to gain muscle. I love that she embraces the strong woman. Lord knows our girl has had to deal with crap concerning her weight (which is perfect)!

Hm, hm: I feel duty bound to defend her honour a bit and point out that Linichuck certainly had her moments of inspiring choreography.

Here is G/P's quickstep original dance, IMO still the best quickstep interpretation ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE_9XOe72B0
K/O's Masquerade Waltz, beautiful work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymjkQ5QF3Ow

I also thought her work for Domnina/Shabalin and Belbin/Agosto in 2009 was really convincing. But then she made catastrophic artistic decisions in 2010 for both teams. She had a habit of doing that, putting out potentially career destroying programs for her students. Grishuk/Platov's Latin FD in 1996 was terrible, no wonder they left for Tarasova the next year. K/O's African Drums FD didn't come together until Worlds, and by that time they were mired in controversy and were risking to lose their title. L/A's Jesus Christ Superstar was a horror program, then she gave them bad program after bad program in the 2000 season...and by Worlds they were back with JCS! :rolleye: And then the rock and roll she saddled them with in 2003, that really helped out B/K to win that World title.

And yeah, L/K are sort of infamous for winning with the most pedestrian and uninspired programs ever. Moiseeva/Minenkov were much more interesting skaters and then of course Torvill and Dean came along. So Karponosov carping about lack of originality is rather funny. Though he's not wrong and I do respect his technical expertise and experience.

As long as Karponossov focusses on technique I`m fine. The fact that I/Z worked with a non-Russian choreographer for two season now, shows to me that the Fed is at least open for new ideas. I hope I/Z will work with Vlasova in the future. She did Y/M`s SD and worked with C/L for years. It`s not like the Russians don`t have good choreographers, they have Vlasova and Tchernyshev for example. But instead of using them for their own teams, they are doing choreo for foreign teams. Y/M`s Tango last season was also nicely done, but I`m not sure who choreographed that program.

I fully agree with you and yes, that quickstep for G&P was great indeed. I loved their FD in 1992 and the Blues also. She had some good moments.

Russian Nationals is going to be exciting. The Fed doesn't seem to have favourite dance team at the moment (and it will be very very interesting in pairs, men and ladies as well!). That's good, the best team should win. The competition at Europeans and Worlds will be strong, so the Russian Fed cannot risk to favour a team that will only have mediocre results in international competitions.
I hope that Ruslan and Elena's last minute preparation is running smoothly. :coffee:

Well, if you ask me, I am going to read into the instagram postings... I know these are wild assumptions but since the Fed almost never does anything without reason, this is my conspiracy theory ;)

I couldn't help but notice that for pairs, they first posted Stolbova/Klimov (the most probably 2nd place) and then V/T (the most likely favorites). Men they posted Pitkeev first then Kovtun... same thing, I think the Fed favors Kovtun over Pitkeev for the championship and they may go 1st and 2nd respectively.

And then ice dance. SK were posted first and today IZ, I think the Fed could be favoring IZ as the defending champions after all and then SK in 2nd, which would leave BS in 3rd? Anyway, all three are going to Euros, the only question is who will go to Worlds, but Karponosov seemed angry enough with BS that they might actually end up favoring IZ and SK.

I guess we'll see, it is one thing who Russia favors and it can be a different thing who international judges favor... it will be interesting none the less!!!

Anyway, it's fun to extrapolate...LOL
