Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I`m not even sure that PCS score beat the one they received last year for that messy skate they had with their Appassionata FD. I just wonder how they will react to this. It`s one thing to have an off-season, but they should be at Worlds and compete for a Worlds medal, instead they are dumped to No. 4 in their own country. I don`t think they can ignore this result.

Alba, I agree with you. But as I said, I believe in conspiracy theories when the shoe fits. There is no conceivable way they should be off the podium but this is what persons in certain circles wanted and they got their wish. I am proud of how well they regrouped given the attacks they frequently weather in certain circles. To be sure we don't know the half of it. So now let the guys train more and come back to kill it next season. I am practically certain that these silly mistakes will be a thing of the past, replaced instead by absolutely riveting skating. I'm not worried. I just have this gut feeling that these are not shrinking violets. Lets go watch their great skate again.

Indeed I meant that it was not the mistake on the SD that cost them the podium. I'm not angry or sad but I'm not gonna give to the judges any excuse today. That was a sham! Still LOL though. I give them that much.

Part of me hopes that Kustrova and Co., realize this and add another person to their team (i.e. similar to Marina's role with the Italians) or let them go. They need to politic better for their team and they should have after COC. I am interested in the press conference with them.

I'm so angry today. :dev2:

At least B/S won gold so I don't have to see Kevin Bacon with it.

I hope I/Z will be sent to Europe. :ddevil:

It's the mistakes. They wouldn't put the full stock in them because of COR and the SD and the fact that the judges haven't received the SD music well.

I agree. It's the inconsistency. The Fed is probably still unhappy about IZ messing up at Euros and then Worlds and finishing below 5th and loosing three spots for Russia. And now this year they can't put two clean skates together. The Fed has lost confidence in them this year.

This might be a good thing for them to get their heads back in the game.

They can't lay all the blame on I/Z though either. Stepanova helped handily with that as well, which is why I am hoping I/Z at least go to Euros. It probably won't happen but I can hope.

Yes, this might be true, they really went for the difficulty this season and maybe it was all a bit too much. I hope the rest does wonders for them though. Happy holidays.

Well, at least they had the second best TES. That`s something! I just hope they keep fighting and really change something in their strategy.

You can always count on the "old" BS for that.

I cannot and should not tell you how much this made my day. Zhulin must be pleased as punch. Good for them, good for them. But did you realize just how quietly he worked this season? Absolutely no fluff, just ground it out with his teams to great success. :hap57:

He's always like that. On the other hand he does go to the judges and the tech panel asking them: why those levels, why those PCS etc.;)
Their skaters, their relatives etc., say to the media they are the best thing since figure skating was invented. It's how should be done

Ekaterina also worked a lot on her posture. It`s not perfect, yet, but much better than in their Bird FD.

Elena and Ruslan have all the talent in the world, but they need someone in their team who can put all that talent into a package that is being rewarded by the judges.

That's why I think they need to add a member to their current camp or leave. Look at Marina with the Italians. They need a pulls no punches politicker in there. They need truth pills.

I'm glad BS won but otherwise I'm so disappointed in Ice Dance in general this year with inconsistencies and questionable placements (not just IZ) that I probably won't be following for a while.

These scores were ridiculous (PCS). We are not speaking of influence. This is belittling the work of all the people that stand behind those dance not just the coaches. Last year they received the score with international judging and these are home judges which boosted everybody else scores. I can't see the message since S/K were the only top team that made mistake on element here?

Does anyone know what are the conditions in order someone to change the country for which compete?

I would like them to leave Russia. I bet that if the Russian team doesn`t get that third Worlds spot back, it will again be used to criticize Elena, since she fell at Nationals and couldn`t qualify for Worlds. :rolleye:

The options would be Shpilband, Krylova or Platov. As much as it pains me, right now they are not a threat to WP and CB, so maybe Shpilband or Krylova would take them.

My figure skating knowledge is pretty limited so please tell me, what if they are out of euros? Does that mean it is the end of the season for them and they can start thinking about next season already (new programs etc.) or will they still have some smaller competitions in this season? Thank you for the answer.

If they are out of Euros, the season is over. It's not a horrible thing, it gives them time to work and seek advice or make changes. They can also create programs for next year, get feedback and be super prepared next season.
