Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I was having this video in my mind since the next year dance was announced. Lil Elena dancing Hip Hop. She really have such control over her body from young age.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk-iEgA8uzc

So maybe Hip hop is not out of the table.

For next year I personally prefer to see something passionate and not girly love dramatic, as British Eurosport commentator said something sassy will suit better for Elena. But it is also good to try different things and experiment. Who knows maybe they will surprise us. I will be happy with whatever choice they make as long as they are showing their uniqueness and are happy with what they are doing.

About the exhibition it will be great if they keep their short dance and add real rock costumes. And do whatever lifts and interesting things without bothering for time or judges opinion. I will certainly enjoy this and will be looking forward to their gala. :)

Elena was such a cutie!

I think for next season they should choose the safer route and just go with a Swing. That Hip Hop choice sounds again like something the ISU is using to modernize the SD, but the judges won`t reward if any team actually dares to do a Hip Hop. I also wonder how a team is supposed to incorporate Hip Hop moves in a step sequence in hold. The Juniors were allowed to mix the Blues with Hip Hop in the 2012/2013 season, but they still had the non-touching step sequence.

One team that used the Hip Hop option was McNamara/Carpenter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uj1aXkNixkY

For the FD, I hope IZ choose a music that shows their strengths like Carmen did. I`m very curious what their coaches will do about the choreography, tbh. In their first season, they were criticized that their programs, especially the FD, were too easy. So, this season they came up with intricate programs, but it didn`t really improve their PCS score, so I can imagine that they are confused about what their next step should be for Elena and Ruslan.

I agree with only doing Swing since they didn't reward the more modern waltz. While I know there isn't over used pieces of music for the free, I can't help but hope they go with a character driven piece that is accessible to the public. Carmen did wonders for them and I didn't hate it. I was actually amazed that they gave it a fresh look. I hope they go that route for the free dance- not Carmen but something known that they can give a fresh look to. Frida is known bit on a smaller scale. Thoughts?

Romeo and Juliet, Prokofiev mixed with A Time for Us from the 1968 movie or Love Story.

Or Notre Dame de Paris? I know that it is used quiet often in singles skating, but in Ice Dance it`s only been done by Davis/White in recent years. Another piece they could use is Danse Macabre. I know C/L tried it and failed miserably, but I think that was more due to their limitations. Elena and Ruslan have the needed drama for this piece.
For their SD, they could maybe use the Peppy and George dance from "The Artist" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2s9ZlenQm8

Elena put on her twitter account a saying of Albert Einstein. It says: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Wondering what she means. Coach change, maybe?

On her VK account she liked a vid about their coaches, so it seems they are still all close. Maybe she meant regarding their programs or she just liked the quote

I've been dreaming for months about them doing a West Side Story free dance. They absolutely have the looks, the skills and the drama to sell it, the music is so well-known and catchy, it's easy to understand for everyone - plus it hasn't been done in ages! Pleaseplease skate to it, Ruslena.

I love the idea for Danse Macabre!

No matter the thought behind it I like how she's thinking.

With the SD, they could try something sassy for the swing part along the lines of "Devil in a Blue Dress" and something steamy-sexy-sensual for the blues section. Sassy and sexy-steamy is one their fortes and they do this better than anyone competing currently. The Midnight Blues has to be in 4/4 time and 88 BPM. Not sure if this songs fits this criteria, but I would like a song like this for the blue section for their SD.

-Gary Clark Jr. "Our Love" http://youtu.be/Aqm_FODFxiw I love the lyrics to this song:
"You are my lady,
I am your man
Some call it crazy, baby
But they don't understand"

The BBC is putting out a new version of "War and Peace" with a Martin Phipps score; he did the fabulous music for North and South, Persuasion, and Sense and Sensibility (2008). They might look into this music for a FD.

I'm still wanting them to try something gothic like the TV score Penny Dreadful for their FD. In season 2, there were a couple of waltzes created for the characters on the show, and I thought it would be a little funny if they chose one of the waltzes for a small section of the FD (like an "ok we will play your [judges] game, but on our own terms." http://youtu.be/x0W_Em9L9V8

As far as addressing mistakes in their programs, I wonder if they have seriously thought about practicing and trying meditation. I have seen TV programs and read articles on how it can help with focus, anxiety, stress, nervousness, etc not just for everyday individuals but athletes too.

I love the idea of I/Z using West Side Story. Elena would make a great Maria. I think she even looks a bit like Natalie Wood.

Glad I found a kindred soul.

For the SD, I'd like for them to do something from the 1930s or 1940s, from a Rogers/Astaire movie perhaps.

I am a huge fan of Bye Bye Birdie. Elena has the spunk of Ann Margaret. I would love to see her and Ruslan skate to: Got a lot of Living to Do. They would make a great Kim and Hugo, LOL!
